Here are your answers compared to this voter’s answers.
Social › Abortion
9>9 Personal answerPro-choice, and providing birth control, sex education, and more social services will help reduce the number of abortions |
Social › LGBT Adoption Rights
9>9 Personal answerYes, as long as they pass the same background checks as straight couples |
Social › Gay Marriage
9>9 Personal answerYes |
Healthcare › Healthcare Funding
9>9 Personal answerYes, it's absolutely needed that healthcare will need a boost in the coming years. We simply can't continue doing what we've previously done with our healthcare system, and we saw a lot of the flaws exposed in the pandemic. But provinces also have to do their fair share, and can't cut/try to privatize a lot of essential services because of austerity measures. |
Social › Gender Transition
9>9 Personal answerNo, children should not be allowed to make irreversible life decisions |
Social › Gender Identity
9>9 Personal answerYes |
Foreign Policy › Mandatory Military Service
9>9 Personal answerNo, service should be a choice instead of an obligation. But, I realize that I am in a privileged position to be able to say that. It's not uncommon for many young men in regions of the world such as Eastern Europe (Ukraine, Finland) the Middle East (Israel) and Southeast Asia (South Korea) to have mandatory military service as part of being a citizen, but I hope it never comes to the point where Canada-US relations become that strained and adversarial. |
Social › Hate Speech
9>9 Personal answerNo, freedom of speech laws should only protect you from criticizing the government |
Social › Euthanasia
9>9 Personal answerYes |
Immigration › Citizenship Test
9>9 Personal answerYes |
Immigration › Deporting Criminal Immigrants
9>9 Personal answerYes, as long as it is safe for them to return to their country |
Immigration › Immigrant Assimilation
9>9 Personal answerIt helps to be able to speak English in our nation, but we should also embrace cultural diversity and languages that immigrants bring, as we are a mosaic of many different cultures and it helps us become more tolerant of others. |
Healthcare › Healthcare Privatization
9>9 Personal answerPrivatization often means that people who need the services the most get them at a much more expensive cost, with reduced services than if government was to take care of it. But, we should also continue partnering with the private sector through research/patents to make progress for as many people as possible. |
the Environment › Logging
9>9 Personal answerNo, preservation of our forests outweighs the economic benefits |
the Environment › Environmental Regulation
9>9 Personal answerWe should be trying our absolute best as a nation to reduce our overall CO2 footprint, as we are one of the biggest emitters (per-capita/person) along with the United States. However, while regulations are necessary to protect some of our most important natural environment throughout our beautiful country, we should be partnering with markets to produce the best outcomes, whether that be through market-based solutions such as cap and trade, and funding research into EVs/renewable technology so that we can advance with some of this technology as soon as possible to save the planet. That being said, we also need to recognize that this is an emergency, and we need to reduce emissions as soon as possible, but we need to do it in a pragmatic/reasonable way. |
Social › Death Penalty
9>9 Personal answerNo, too many people are innocently convicted |
Immigration › Immigration
9>9 Personal answerAnyone who thinks that we have a "open border" immigration system is not only idiotic, but clearly has never met anyone who has gone through the insane amount of process it takes to become a Canadian citizen. We already have a strict enough immigration system as is. |
Social › Niqāb
9>9 Personal answerYes |
Healthcare › Healthcare
9>9 Personal answerProvincial, but with federal funding and regulated standards |
Immigration › Muslim Immigrant Ban
9>9 Personal answerNo, banning immigrants based on their religion is unconstitutional |
Crime › Private Prisons
9>9 Personal answerNo, private prisons will sacrifice quality of care and rehabilitation services for profit |
Social › Women in Combat
9>9 Personal answerYes |
Foreign Policy › Foreign Elections
9>9 Personal answerNo |
the Environment › Renewable Energy
9>9 Personal answerYes |
Foreign Policy › United Nations
9>9 Personal answerYes |
Crime › Drug Trafficking Penalties
9>9 Personal answerNo, I do not believe in the death penalty |
Elections › Campaign Finance
9>9 Personal answerYes, politicians should not be bought by wealthy donors |
Immigration › Skilled Immigrants
9>9 Personal answerI am satisfied with the current amount |
Housing › Foreign Owned Homes
9>9 Personal answerThis could go very wrong if done the wrong way. There are many people, who are not citizens, who contribute an immense amount of good to this country. Diplomats, ambassadors of foreign nations, non-permanent residents, NGOs, exchange students for both high-school and university, and many others. If we ban housing to them, we are making it harder for people to come here and experience the benefits of this nation, which can do wonders in making people appreciate all that Canada has to offer. I understand that this is about affordable housing, and making it more affordable for everyone, but if we make it so that people can't come here and be able to live here/become a potential citizen in the future, are we doing a disservice to people of this country? Possibly. |
the Environment › Freshwater Research
9>9 Personal answerYes |
Elections › Electoral Reform
9>9 Personal answerNo, keep the current “first past the post” system |
the Environment › Animal Testing
9>9 Personal answerYes |
Housing › Homeless Encampments
9>9 Personal answerI would say yes. In a perfect world, the homeless would be able to access housing and other important amenities that would allow them to be able to get back on their feet. That is not the case, as many people often don't want the services that would help people in their own backyard, as they have concerns relating to safety, and other issues such as property value (which in this time period, with everything going up in price, is reasonable.) Shelters often have requirements/other issues that can dissuade people from going there (safety) so the best third option that we can allow is public property, as public property often has available amenities such as washrooms/drinking water that people need. |
the Environment › Plastic Product Ban
9>9 Personal answerI think that it's a huge waste of resources to produce biodegradable plastic in the first place, and we should be encouraging people to take reusable water bottles, plates/cutlery/glasses, grocery bags and other products everywhere they go to reduce their overall footprint in the first place. |
Housing › Affordable Housing
9>9 Personal answerYes |
Elections › Right of Foreigners to Vote
9>9 Personal answerYes, but they should only be allowed to vote in local elections |
Elections › Campaign Finance
9>9 Personal answerNo, and political campaigns should be publicly funded |
Elections › Prime Minister Term Limits
9>9 Personal answerNo, voters should decide how long they stay in office |
Crime › Defunding the Police
9>9 Personal answerNo, it should really be dependent on the area. If an area needs more police officers, and training/supports to help with those officers, it should be allowed to get the funding it needs to help keep the community safe. But, at the same time, if we know that there are programs that are community-based and work to help reduce recidivism and help protect the public/create awareness, we should also fund those as well. It's not an either or thing, it's not that simple. |
Immigration › Temporary Foreign Workers
9>9 Personal answerNeither, maintain the current amount |
Elections › Political Party Subsidies
9>9 Personal answerYes |
Elections › Candidate Transparency
9>9 Personal answerYes |
Housing › Non-Resident Real Tax
9>9 Personal answerYes |
Science › Nuclear Energy
9>9 Personal answerYes |
Foreign Policy › Ukraine and Nato
9>9 Personal answerYes, Ukraine should be able to join NATO if it wants to, and should be allowed to make that decision free of any outside influence (not from Russia, United States, or any of it's neighbors in Eastern Europe), however I realize it's often easier said than done. But, it must also fit the criteria and qualifications to become a NATO member as outlined in documents such as the Washington Treaty. |
Education › Postsecondary Education
9>9 Personal answerProvincially managed but with federal standards to ensure consistency |
Immigration › Dual Citizenship
9>9 Personal answerYes |
Crime › Criminal Voting Rights
9>9 Personal answerYes, every citizen deserves the right to vote |
Crime › Prison Overcrowding
9>9 Personal answerNon-violent prisoners can mean a whole lot of different criminal offences, many of which aren't fit to be in the community for public safety reasons alone. I would say it's much better to direct them to where they need the most help, be that a mental hospital/ward, addiction center or therapy, but at the same time, prison still needs to be an option as some may not respond well to the help/efforts at rehabilitation. |
the Environment › Corporate Subsidies
9>9 Personal answerI think it depends on each community's needs. If private companies would bring enough revenue in to be able to advance with other community projects, then municipal governments should pursue that as an option. But, if you have the opportunity and the resources to make your community a better place for everyone, by building amenities that everyone can use, it would be my own personal opinion that this is usually the best course of action. |
