Let's use common sense here, who is out of work? Have they been here longer than the guy that has the current job? Then take him out and put the guy who was in this country the longest in that place, A) he's done more for the country B) we need to start worrying more about the people we have in this country than the ones from other countries.

 @9WBRK8Dfrom British Columbia  answered…1mo1MO

Decrease except where needs are high such as Doctors trained to the same or better standard as Canada.

 @9TNBDV8from British Columbia  answered…2mos2MO

Decrease, and the companies applying should be obligated to train local workers to eventually take over after the temporary position.

 @9MJ379FConservativefrom Saskatchewan  answered…6mos6MO

people can work wherever they want it doesn’t matter who or what you are. at the end of the day we’re all people

 @9LJVNVSfrom Ontario  answered…7mos7MO

They shouldn't bother creating temporary work visas. It's either they are a citizen or not a citizen, because that most workers goals anyways in this program.

 @9FJSRV9from Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

Maintain as much as possible while still directing said workers to industries with a shortage of Canadian workers

 @9F7DNYYfrom Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

Increase, but only for industries with critical shortages of workers (such as the healthcare system)

 @9F5KMPVfrom Alberta  answered…1yr1Y

Train more Canadians and prioritize Canadians when hiring. Do more to address the worker shortage within Canada using Canadians but use foreign temporary workers if necessary.

 @9D4R2DYfrom Quebec  answered…1yr1Y

Neither, current temporary foreign workers should be offered permanent residence and potential for citizenship

 @9QZCYDNfrom Ontario  answered…4mos4MO

Probably keep it the same, maybe increase it but only slightly. I also think work Visa programs should be more common and replace some of the temporary foreign worker program

 @9QX648Q from Alberta  answered…4mos4MO

Neither, immediately extend permanent resident status to all non-status and temporary status workers in Canada

 @9Q6HHH7from Ontario  answered…5mos5MO

No, but increase regulations on the businesses that hire temporary workers to insure wages are not depressed and temporary workers receive adequate wages.

 @9K3DVX4from Ontario  answered…9mos9MO

Increase, could form a better bond to the people of foreign countries resulting in better variety of contacts which could lead to greater supply for trade

 @9JC6BKVfrom Ontario  answered…10mos10MO

Decrease the minimum wage and remove some social programs to incentivise unemployed Canadians to fill these roles; alternatively subsidize automation in these industries to replace the labour.

 @9GZYG4Jfrom Quebec  answered…1yr1Y

Regardless, improving immigration rules, citizenship test, border control and accepting anyone who's not a criminal or a national threat, also imposing no limit amount of immigrants or legal residents would make this question irrelevant.

easy for said workers to be exploited, so i suppose heavy heavy regulations and worker rights for the employers

 @tofutofufrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Temporary foreign workers should only be used for industries with a shortage of Canadian workers. However, these industries should gain promotion within the country to encourage more Canadian citizens to get involved in these industries. As always, when temporary foreign workers are brought in to work, they deserve the same wage and rights, and conditions while they're working as a Canadian citizen would receive. Their work and time needs to be valued.

 @95K5YQGfrom British Columbia  answered…2yrs2Y

It's obviously needed, as these jobs are jobs that many Canadians wouldn't want to do as they are hard jobs that are long hours, but I would also say that we need to treat them with respect, and we can't just let them be at the whim of the agricultural owners as well. I would say keep the system as it is, but we also can't ignore the problems with it, nor the growing demand of Canadian produce that is needed around the world right now, especially with the war in Ukraine.

 @94CXG6Gfrom Quebec  answered…2yrs2Y

 @93WL6VFfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

Canadian workers in industries such as farms could fill the jobs that are currently available in Canada on a larger business. Greed should not be incentivized, plenty of young people could use these opportunities as stepping stones into the work place that are Canadian citizens.

End allowing temporary foreign workers into Canada, period. There are plenty of able body, able minded Canadians not working.

 @8TRPMHXfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8TLH2TQfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

Maintain the current amount for industries without a shortage, and increase only for industries with a shortage of canadian workers.

 @8SHK4PTCommunistfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8S69HSHfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Decrease, we should invest in Canadians who are in the unemployment field.

 @8PV32S8Greenfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Allow where it is necessary. Where is our tax money being allocated. We should determine the highest rate of tax our citizens are expected to provide for people that are new to this country. It's not fair for people that have been contributing for 30+ years to our government to be taken advantage of by people that have just moved here and refuse to work.

 @8PMSYCPfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8PJF9PZfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

The amount should be determined by the unemployment level experienced at the time. Putting Canadians to work first should be the priority

 @8PFW692Rhinocerosfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Regardless, the temporary foreign workers need to be better protected. Employers mistreat them and threaten to deport them if they report the mistreatment. They need to be aware of their rights and have options if their employers are abusive. This information and contact people need to be available in their langague.

Canada should have an agreement with closely allied countries (United States, Australia, Mexico) to allow workers to freely work in each country.

 @8J9KWCYfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

Depends on the economy and Canada's current unemployment rate at that time.

 @8PP8HSTfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Increase, because despite what some claim immigration actually helps our economy. But the Canadian government needs to establish a national identity that all Canadians can share to prevent tribalism among our various cultures.

 @8DHQ3QGfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Increase, as long as it does not take jobs away from Canadian residents

 @3CJWWC9from British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

Temporary foreign works numbers should be based on non availability of Canadian worker. foreign workers should be taxed, have to supply their own medical insurance before entering Canada and make sure their children are attending school or being homeschooled.

 @3CJVQPHfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

If there is a Canadian qualified for the job it goes to them first. If no Canadian is qualified a temporary foreign worker is allowed.

 @3CJNKX5from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Make the system fairer and less arbitrary. It is a disaster now and Service Canada needs to be more accountable and reasonable. It is better to have temporary foreign workers come here to work and then give the successful ones a chance at permanent residence than to try to assess skilled workers who haven't even been to Canada yet. The Canada Experience Class was a good program. Now it is being mutilated and changed to make it less appealing to foreign students. Foreign students are good for the economy and immigration program. Students who learn here and then work here will make the best immigrants. At eth same time, we benefit economically from their spending while here.

 @3CJKXQPfrom Newfoundland  answered…4yrs4Y

I am an immigrant, I exactly know why they need to work here, it's for the money. They need it for their family back at their country. To stay the same what it used to be would be a big help for them and for their families :)
