Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is intensifying his attacks on Liberal Leader Mark Carney, accusing him of ethical conflicts and promising sweeping reforms if elected. Poilievre has pledged to ban 'shadow lobbying' and require political candidates to disclose their tax history for the past seven years. These moves are part of a broader push to tighten ethics rules in government. The ethics-focused campaign strategy comes as the federal election campaign enters its fourth week. Meanwhile, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is focusing on regional issues, promising more support for northern Ontario.

Finally, someone’s calling out the Liberal elites and their shady backroom deals—Poilievre’s the only one actually trying to clean up Ottawa!

Good on Poilievre for calling out the ethical mess the Liberals have gotten comfortable with—about time someone cleaned house. Requiring tax transparency and cracking down on backroom lobbying is exactly the kind of accountability we need in Ottawa.

Politicians policing ethics always feels like the fox guarding the henhouse. If Poilievre really wants to clean things up, he should start by shrinking government power so there's less to be corrupt about in the first place. More transparency is good, but let's not pretend new rules will fix a fundamentally broken system.

A Conservative government would make anyone running for office disclose where they paid taxes for the previous seven years, party leader Pierre Poilievre said Sunday while outlining a proposed new ethics law — and blasting Liberal Leader Mark Carney’s own alleged conflicts of interest.
