Educational institutions & government should join to evaluate the need for skilled workers, then provide $$$ incentives such as free tuition & small living allowance to Canadians willing to train to fill these gaps. We have too many unskilled, unemployed arts degrees, and educators are still pushing students to a prestigious ARTS program.

 @4VQ296Sfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

Our education system should be tailored to the job market. Too much utter waste of artsy fartsy programs when people can't find a plumber.

Keep the current amount the same, but implement policies that prevent companies from taking advantage to decrease wages/exploit workers.

 @B24T739from Ontario  answered…1wk1W

Increase, but only in fields that are not over-saturated, and pay all workers fair and reasonable wages.

 @9ZYVF3Mfrom Ontario  answered…3wks3W

Companies are taking advantage of this program to hire immigrants at a lower cost instead of hiring Canadian citizens

 @9WYDMSDfrom British Columbia  answered…2mos2MO

Eliminate and put laws in place to prevent a program similar to it from ever being implemented again.

 @9W27QN2from Ontario  answered…2mos2MO

the government needs to provide opportunities for these highly educated immigrant to get jobs in their fields because often they end up working for Uber because they cant get a job in their field. another major issue is that they don't have the canadian certifications for their fields of expertise but are quite educated and have the certificates that their country of origin needs.

 @9VY5FM6Conservativeanswered…2mos2MO

Monitor how this impacts our economy and increase or decrease as is needed. Ask for more detailed public input and provide more information to the public in terms of information across the board.

 @9VW96WQGreenfrom British Columbia  answered…2mos2MO

Make it easier for current immigrants to transfer their skills without the next to spend high amounts of time and money to retrain for skills they already have.

 @9VW59ZNfrom Alberta  answered…2mos2MO

Canadians should be looked after first and our tax dollars should NEVER help to pay wages! If a company can’t figure it out on their own, they need a better business plan.

 @9VS9N3RLibertarianfrom Ontario  answered…3mos3MO

Companies should be allowed to hire foreign workers, but the government will provide no incentives to do so, and companies must pay all expenses to hire these foreign workers (sponsorship)

 @9VDRGX4from British Columbia  answered…3mos3MO

if they are high skilled, but they have committed a crime recently you should not give a visa but otherwise you should.

 @9V9LMB6from British Columbia  answered…3mos3MO

Temporarily decrease and the government should provide more incentives to prepare our citizens for these jobs and once the housing crisis is fixed then we can increase the amount of work visas given

 @9V9BQ4Cfrom Alberta  answered…3mos3MO

The government should decrease the work visa's and instead put the money towards Canadian Citizens who have resided in Canada there whole lives. Train them then you've not only increased the work force but allowed the country to help themselves with their own people.

 @9T32KG9from British Columbia  answered…4mos4MO

What difference does it make. Anyone who has a degree isn't allowed to practice medicine unless they complete school here in Canada.

 @9SBVLX3from New Brunswick  answered…4mos4MO

Irrelevant question because qualifications are managed provincially. These people aren't allowed to work in their field whether you get them here or not.

 @9S4WNMXfrom Quebec  answered…4mos4MO

Increase for in-demand jobs and decrease for full ones, and with agreement to move to cities that need the workers

 @9LP28BLfrom Quebec  answered…8mos8MO

Decrease, take care of our country first. That what government officials are voted in to office for. To take care of the Canadians first at all cost.

 @9LJVNVSfrom Ontario  answered…8mos8MO

They shouldn't bother creating temporary work visas. It's either they are a citizen or not a citizen, because that most workers goals anyways in this program.

 @9FB722Tfrom Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

Decrease until the rate of growth in housing and infrastructure can balance with immigration

 @9RVGGSKConservativefrom Saskatchewan  answered…5mos5MO

Canada should grant temporary work visas in a controlled way to make sure that it is sustainable and that the best and the brightest come to Canada.

 @9RDSKS3from Ontario  answered…5mos5MO

Increase but immigrants from poor countries need support in order to gain their equivalencies or else people with degrees end up driving taxis.

 @9RCBSYBfrom Ontario  answered…5mos5MO

We should look within for people to fill these positions first. Find people with potential and promote training for citizens to fill these roles rather than staying unemployed. Fair wages for fair work. Companies that are willing to train citizens rather than hire immigrants at a low cost could get higher government ratings and media promotion benefits.

 @9RC33TXfrom Ontario  answered…5mos5MO

Identify industries that need skilled workers and incentivize Canadians to educate in that industry. Give industries tax breaks for sponsoring Canadian students to fill the needed roles. Allow temporary visas until the student that they train has finished their education.

 @9RBPVRKfrom British Columbia  answered…5mos5MO

Temporary work visas should continue to be used to fill shortages in critical industries (ie health care), but should be ceased entirely for non-critical industries (retail, restaurants)

 @9RBN9D3answered…5mos5MO

Increase, with stricter vetting and a corporate tax that makes it more expensive that hiring a Canadian.

 @9NHGQD2from Alberta  answered…7mos7MO

neither, canada's economy relies on high-skilled immigrant workers but there are also millions of Canadian's who can't find jobs

 @9NBLG95from Alberta  answered…7mos7MO

While yes Canada's economy is currently dependant on immigrant skilled workers there are current Canadian residents who can't find work at all and are severelly struggling.

 @9NBKTL9from Alberta  answered…7mos7MO

I agree that our economy is dependant on immigrants who are skilled workers but there are also current Canadian residents who cannot find work, and Canada's infrasructure is not suited to keep accepting hundreds of thousands of immigrants every year.

 @9MLXWMNfrom Ontario  answered…7mos7MO

The definition of high-skilled immigrant workers needs a good overhaul. While we need a lot more doctors, all we are getting are food delivery drivers.

 @9ML8M3Hfrom Ontario  answered…7mos7MO

increase, because canada benefits from the workers, but it should be regulated so that these workers are treated fairly and compensated accordingly

 @9JWZHWWfrom Saskatchewan  answered…11mos11MO

Neither increase or decrease, instead the government should combat that despite record profits companies and businesses are laying off dozens upon dozens of people. Companies take advantage of both high-skilled immigrant workers and Canadian citizen workers by paying lower wages because of people's desperate need for work.

 @9JWQKH8from Saskatchewan  answered…11mos11MO

We should always be looking for local talent. There should be a small percentage compared to minority. ex: 3% be foreign workers or even 11% and the rest be minority. we do this to minimize and have fair trade.

 @9GZYG4Jfrom Quebec  answered…1yr1Y

Regardless, improving immigration rules, citizenship test, border control and accepting anyone who's not a criminal or a national threat, also imposing no limit amount of immigrants or legal residents would make this question irrelevant.

 @9GYSNHDfrom Nova Scotia  answered…1yr1Y

Decrease, educational institutions and the government should join to elevate the need for skilled workers, then provide incentives such as free tuition and small living allowance to Canadians willing to train to fill these gaps.

 @9G2PHDKfrom Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

Increase but place restrictions on allowing companies to take advantage of this program to decrease wages.

 @9G28PF4from Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

Increase, with a proper background check and screening of their record at their current country as well as paying them what a person who would have that job as a citizen of Canada

 @9FPG8CXfrom Alberta  answered…1yr1Y

Skilled immigrants are important, but the biggest problem right now is housing/cost of living! We need more houising supply! Because of that, a slight decrease is necessary.

 @9FP3QX2from Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

Increase for now, but visa green cards should not be a requirement for immigration.

 @9F9XLSYConservativefrom Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

Increase, as long as their education is verified via stringent professional testing

 @9F5KMPVfrom Alberta  answered…1yr1Y

Maintain the current amount but give free education and job training to lessen the need for foreigner highly skilled workers in the future.

 @8PW9SHKfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Decrease the visas via the creation of programs that make it easier for skilled workers to immigrate to Canada on a permanent basis. This would eliminate the incentive for companies to hire temporary foreign workers as a cost saving measure, and create a new pathway to citizenship for skilled workers.

 @95SFXHSfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

Priority should be given to young Canadians wanted to step in and have an opportunity VS sourcing it all elsewhere.

 @95QY385from Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

I knew this guy who lived in bc for 2 years but couldn't buy a car or anywhere special because he couldn't get his visa or something from India so he had to work on an under the table job site to help pay for stuff, he was the best worker I've ever seen but he always got the short end of the stick and quit because our boss was kinda crazy, anway there need to be more work visas before that was really unfortunate

 @92RTRZZfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

End temporary work visas altogether. There are plenty of able body, able minded Canadians not working.

 @8WMPBWQfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

Neither decrease nor increase, but add funding and incentives for our own citizens to be capable of these jobs.

 @8VXL57Dfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

Increase, and the government and a third-party should review each buisness hiring high-skilled immigrants ensuring they are compensated the same as if they were a citizen.

 @8VTYHN9from Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

I believe the government should be hiring those from this country to fill those high skilled job trades instead of outsourcing to immigrant workers.

 @8VSPH8Ffrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

Promote jobs for citizens, then make the process easier for better paid foreign workers if they are necessary.

 @8VPMD3QConservativefrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

Increase, but only if the immigrants are brought in to the country with eventual citizenship in mind.

 @8VMB6WPNew Democraticfrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

Remain the same but if positions are not being fulfilled by Canadians, increase the work visas for that particular sector.

 @8VKBKM8from Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

Increase, but ensure immigrant workers are being treated well by setting up a monitoring agency.

 @8VJH7P5from British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

With the amount of tax we pay we should be able to train and educate people that are already her and looking to improve their skill sets

 @8VJDPWFfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

Increase if we are in short supply of that skill Decrease if we have a surplus

 @8VHLQFBfrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

It should match with the needs of business as long as it is not at the cost of our own workers. Increase education and subsidize it to increase Canadian candidates.

 @8VH22SVfrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

Those seeking jobs who are skilled labourers and have no violent history and meet background checks and standards should be able to apply for the available jobs.

 @8VH294Rfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

Don’t know enough to provide an answer, it matters to me how long term the temporary work visa is. Since I don’t know how long a temporary work visa is, I cannot provide an answer that I feel requires enough understanding to understand.

 @8VGVGB2from British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

Increase, but I am concerned about immigrants being paid poorly and not having safe housing (as we saw was the case for temporary immigrant workers when there were many covid outbreaks in the insufficient housing offered by employers).

Routine federal check ups on businesses using this program to make sure they are not exploiting immigrant employees

 @8VBQPPSfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8VBHPDBfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8V9NNNRNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8TZ5G3Qfrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8TYWMFPfrom Saskatchewan  answered…3yrs3Y

Increase, but only after cracking down on companies exploiting foreign workers.

 @Steeviemacfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

Increase, but only for occupations that are not filled by qualified Canadian citizens.

  @8TXVXMLfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8TXCC9Yfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

Target high skilled workers but ensure that companies cant take advantage to decrease wages

 @8TX8MG3from British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

It should be dependant on an audit of high skilled jobs, should only be used to create a robust economy. Not to cannibalize the prospects of Canadians

 @8TX6Z4Nfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

Increase but with more governance over the ratio of Canadian citizen workers

 @8TX5JVBfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

Regardless, the government should do more to penalize companies that are taking advantage if this program to decrease wages

 @8TWXBFCfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

I am satisfied with the current amount, No welfare or work for Welfare would make adults go to school to improve themselves.

 @8TWKYGXfrom Quebec  answered…3yrs3Y

Increase the amount while prohibiting companies from taking advantage of this program to decrease wages

 @8TV83B9from British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

Increase but government should increase assistance for citizens to get these jobs also

 @8TV3Z3Yfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

Whoever working, whether an immigrant or citizen should be paid the same. And the most qualified people should be the ones with the job.

 @8TTGRBPfrom Prince Edward Island  answered…3yrs3Y

Increase, but ONLY when there are verifiable actual shortages of skilled domestic employees in the industry, not just when industries are crying and whining, looking for cheap labor to exploit.

 @8TPZYQ5Greenfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

Increase, however Canada should also give an opportunity to low-skilled immigrant workers to assist them in finding a job suitable for them to be able to live here.

 @8TP8W83from Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

Increase, and prevent companies from giving them lower wages than other people.

 @8TJQYBBfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y
