Every person should be able to privately own any firearm of any kind for their own protection and recreation. The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good duy with a gun.

 @9M3F3N7from Alberta  disagreed…12mos12MO

We already know this statement to be false, by looking at our southern neighbours. Training, licensing, and for certain guns registration are a must. Our gun laws work well as is, minus the latest bans and handgun freezes... that should be rolled back...

 @B292M3Pfrom British Columbia  answered…3mos3MO

Keep the system we had pre-handgun ban. Anyone who's connected with organized crime should not be allowed to own/process firearms. Anyone who's been institutionalized require specialized checks to see if they're able to own a firearms

 @9VWC5NZConservativefrom British Columbia  answered…6mos6MO

No, and they need to reduce the amount of restrictions on guns. The way gun laws are going are penalizing hunters/farmers more then criminals.

 @9VW72QGfrom British Columbia  answered…6mos6MO

Crack down on illegal firearms and allow concealed or open carry for permitted users with stand your ground law

 @B4P248Rfrom British Columbia  answered…1 day1D

these questions are kind of hard to answer considering that it doesn’t mention the process now and that it’s just a yes or no question so I don’t know

 @B4FKL3Lfrom British Columbia  answered…2wks2W

Canada already has some of the most strict firearm laws. legal firearm owners also have their name run thru an RCMP data base every 24 hours. Legal firearm owners are some of the most upstanding citizens Canada has.

 @B3LV7RRfrom British Columbia  answered…1mo1MO

No, increase penalty for gun-related crime and impose restrictions only for criminals and the mentally ill

 @B367BY4from British Columbia  answered…2mos2MO

no only for criminals and the mentally ill, increase the penalty for gun-related crime, and add a castle doctrine.

 @B2QW7PJfrom British Columbia  answered…2mos2MO

There should be less, adding more doesn't help anything, it only harms those who buy them legally, people who actually use them for crime import them and acquire them illegally the last thing they will do is follow the law respectfully.

 @9TYP75Wfrom British Columbia  answered…7mos7MO

No, they are taking guns away from the wrong people. The people that create harm with gun use illegal imported guns anyway.

 @9SSPZP4from British Columbia  answered…8mos8MO

No. There are regulations in place. People who have guns and are responsible follow the rules. If a criminal wants a gun they’ll find one or make one. We have strict laws. And that is okay the ones who should have guns will follow the law. The ones who shouldn’t have them will unfortunately find them illegally

 @9RDS9RZfrom British Columbia  answered…9mos9MO

There should be a stand your ground law in your own home but not necessarily in public. Those convicted of crimes, the mentally ill and those who have shown they are not responsible with their firearms should lose their right to gun ownership. Assault weapons should only be obtainable if it is reasonably believed that Canada may be invaded by another nation.

 @9RBGJNJfrom British Columbia  answered…9mos9MO

Yes, handguns should be banned, only hunting-oriented guns should be allowed, and only for those holding hunting licenses.

 @9NMWPJKfrom British Columbia  answered…10mos10MO

The current process is already fairly rigid and quite effective. I don’t agree with spending more tax dollars to focus on law abiding citizens. Do something about the border and gang activity. Put the tax dollar focus where it could actually make a difference rather than being used as a tool to make a politician look good to citizens who are uneducated on guns and gun law.

 @8PFDTKFConservativefrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

I believe that restrictions on guns should be far lower and we should lift several gun bans

 @8DJXV7Rfrom British Columbia  answered…5yrs5Y

Canada should unban all weapons, you should only need an ID to purchase firearm, and we should allow self defence both inside and outside the home.

 @B25BWZ6from British Columbia  answered…4mos4MO

Canadians should have the right to protect themselves and their property with firearms. Firearms should be a right to prevent tyranny of government. Regular schooling for gun use should be available privately.

 @9W9SXGVfrom British Columbia  answered…6mos6MO

No assault weapons No, only for criminals and the mentally ill increase penalties for gun-related crimes Yhe government should pass a national “stand your ground” law on your owned property.

 @9VVXF25from British Columbia  answered…6mos6MO

Just restrict criminals and mentally ill people or people living with either from getting guns. Strict background checks too

 @9VF6ZNQConservativefrom British Columbia  answered…6mos6MO

Family history check, mental health and substance use check and a necessity to go through an emotional intelligence coirse

 @9V7M3PQfrom British Columbia  answered…7mos7MO

Restrictions should be based on the kind of weapon, the history of the person who wants to buy it, and the intended use

 @9V5LQH8Conservativefrom British Columbia  answered…7mos7MO

Yes although I believe more work should be put into preventing unregistered firearms from being smuggled across our border

 @9T42CXPfrom British Columbia  answered…7mos7MO

IF you were to buy a gun you would need to be required to take training lessons to ensure you are a worthy firarm owner and guns should be banned for convinced criminals of serious crime and unstable people

 @9KKT7PVfrom British Columbia  answered…1yr1Y

in Canada for the time being I think we have a good middle ground i wouldn't be apposed to more but i dont thank it will really do much

 @9K5QKX8from British Columbia  answered…1yr1Y

no infact they shoud allow more guns to be purchased in canada including handgunsas well as looser restrictions on these firearms

 @9HV5QFWfrom British Columbia  answered…1yr1Y

No. Any citizen or permanent resident who hasn't been convicted of an indictable offence or involuntarily committed should be allowed to buy, possess, and carry firearms for sport shooting, hunting, or self-defence. A national "stand your ground" law should be passed.

 @9GR4HSCfrom British Columbia  answered…1yr1Y

I think that there should be a deep mental test when buying guns so that the crazies don't shoot people.

 @9F98QSTfrom British Columbia  answered…2yrs2Y

Only for criminals and people with a mental illness and ban all assault rifles

 @9F84JWNfrom British Columbia  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9F37DQBfrom British Columbia  answered…2yrs2Y

No, there should be legislation to promote self-defense for store owners and individuals, but with harsher penalties for misconduct.

 @96DWQ75from British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

No, I think Canada is great and one of the best of restrictions of gun violence

 @969Q7SKfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but close the gun show loophole and undergo strict background checks, psychological testing, and training.

 @9696BZTfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

 @95HS9GSNew Democraticfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

All weapons should be legalized similar to the United States’ second amendment. However anyone ages 18 and older must be cleared as mentally aware and stable enough to bare arms

 @95BTMTYfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

 @956XVNYGreenfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

No, there are plenty already. However, illegal weapons, specifically coming from the US border, should be enforced better.

 @9548BF8from British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

 @952J6K5from British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes and no. Require strict background checks, psychological testing, and safety training. Don't ban semi-auto guns or pistols.

 @94VP9NSfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

Reduce restrictions on law abiding owners, and target gun smugglers who are the primary source of gun crime in Canada.

 @9368W6Dfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

No, but increase penalties for gun crime and dramatically increase border enforcement to stop gun smuggling

 @8ZM4Q6Dfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

No for criminals or the mentally ill, depending on the evaluation of said individual. There should be a lower threshold as to what is considered an assault weapon, especially in circumstances of self defense from criminals with illegally owned firearms and the evidence supporting a self defense case. I believe it is better to have less harmful firearm in extreme cases that allow self defense to save one's life.

Believe in gun regulation, so a few above would apply (gun shows, loopholes, ban on assault rifles), but not all. Understand where long guns or a essential part of rural livelihood, necessity, as well as recreational activity--- hunting, etc.

 @8YVYX83Conservativefrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8XV5FQHfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

Only people who have got a background check by the police and have a got approved from the police to buy a gun.

 @8XQKJJRfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, require strict background checks, psychological testing, and training. But an introduction of the “stand your ground” law should be introduced.

 @8WM56DPfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

yes but only if they have a some what bad crimal record or mental health issues

 @8W667TTfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

As a family who owns multiple weapons, 2 of our handguns were taken by the government with a 25% refund for what we purchased it for. I do agree with the banning of full auto rifles or SBR's/ Short barrelled rifles as those weapons are most used in school shootings. I believe you need all paperwork at all time with the weapon.

 @8W4WC9Wfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VPTZ6Gfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

Instead of fund policy’s that ban or restrict guns I believe we should fund mental health services to help people in need before they commit atrocities.

 @8VNSBGDfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

No. Texas has an open carry rule. They have some of the least fun crimes. If walk in a bank and see 3 people with guns, you probably won't rob the bank. You probably won't hurt someone. Have an open carry rule. It is the users fault not the guns.

There should be no government restrictions on purchasing anything. That is not the purpose of government.

 @8NWG3QMfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

We should have kept the stance of the Magna Carta and the British North America Act of property rights and rights to self defense

 @8NW84PRfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

No, and many current gun laws should be repealed as they have no effect on poor choices by people of ill intent.

 @8NW4G8WConservativefrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

No but increase penalties fir hun related crimes and enact “stand your ground” law

 @8JMPSQPfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

No, allow open carry. But add a stricter background check and a good mental health check. And increase penalties for gun related crimes

 @8HZKRVRfrom British Columbia  answered…5yrs5Y

No, Canada already had a good program in place before the Trudeau Government came in to office.

Pass an in class gun course written and practical.

Pass a back ground check done by the chief of firearms.

And be required to show a valid pal upon purchase of firearms and ammunition.

Not all guns are for war and not all people use them to harm or injure anybody or belongings.

 @8HVT5FTConservativefrom British Columbia  answered…5yrs5Y

The system in place works perfect. The government needs to turn their focus to illigally imported guns, not law abiding Gun owners.

 @8F88SR6from British Columbia  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8DYTXJMfrom British Columbia  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8CCZXDPfrom British Columbia  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, require strict background checks, psychological testing, and training. Also, please legalize low-risk self defense weapons (such as pepper spray!!). Seriously. Women, BIPOC folks, and LGBTQ2+ folks are scared and are being attacked and cannot adequately protect ourselves within the boundary of the law. Obviously pepper spray is nothing compared to a gun, but to a big white dude chasing us and threatening our lives it's a start for sure.

 @9CQ8CWTfrom British Columbia  answered…2yrs2Y

No, Increase penalties for commiting violent gun crimes and pass a national "stand your groun" law

 @9BVGWZLfrom British Columbia  answered…2yrs2Y

Regardless, there should be stricter background checks but lighter restrictions on types of guns purchasable

 @99PTH5Pfrom British Columbia  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9926JWTConservativefrom British Columbia  answered…2yrs2Y

We already have a very strict and rigorous system. However it could always be more strict and safe. I do not agree with banning guns of most types, but the acquisition of a firearms license and firearm could always be better.

 @98GWLF3from British Columbia  answered…2yrs2Y

No, but increase funding for mental health and other social support programs.

 @97TFF9Dfrom British Columbia  answered…2yrs2Y

Less restrictions on restricted firearms due to due to stats extremely low crime rate with legal firearms ownership

 @9787V57from British Columbia  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes but in today's world people need to protect themselves from robbers breaking into houses

 @93KJD86from British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

No but increase the penalties for gun related crimes. And I'm going to look into this stand your ground lawn more I think I like it.

 @maddypaigemfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8S53VZLCommunistfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

Guns for hunting should be allowed with a permit and an evaluation before getting the permit. These guns should be locked up in a gun safe at all times until you use them for hunting.

 @8VHL9LSfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

More background checks, and more freedom for the outdoor and back country lovers.

 @8VGT4GMfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, only for assault weapons and government should pass a national "stand your ground" law

 @8V4M9G4from British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

The government is wildly incompetent and it gets worse as it grows. They lose more firearms than the population.

 @Steeviemacfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

No, but criminals should be prohibited from owning firearms for ten years after the expiry of their sentence.
