I feel with the current restrictions it really affects peoples culture like Hunting. Me personally I think that they should ban weapons for Criminals and people who had mental health issues as well as add a "stand your ground law" as everyone should have the right to defend their homes, families and themselves especially in high crime areas.

 @9LNL99Nfrom Ontario  answered…12mos12MO

I think guns should be harder to buy in some ways such as stronger background checks, but anyone should have the right to own a gun if they have a strong background check!

 @9M3F3N7from Alberta  disagreed…12mos12MO

We already have strict background checks and have had for a long time. Not everyone should be able to own a gun. Only properly trained and licensed. It is a privilege, not a right

 @8VRZQT4New Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Limiting purchasing further is not going to reduce gun violence, if guns can still be illegally brought across the border.

 @B293PLFfrom Ontario  answered…3mos3MO

Less restrictions with strict background checks, psychological testing and training. Increase penalties for gun related crimes.

 @B25ZC28from Ontario  answered…4mos4MO

If the person has a gun license and has an evaluation, then they should be able to purchase a gun, but otherwise, nobody should carry a gun around in public unless they are in the police force.

Engaged Gun Control

Yes, ban all guns from public use except for single shot or bolt action hunting rifles for the use in the northern regions as self defense against wildlife and by indigenous communities for hunting and ceremonial purposes. Along with that, we would make the screening and training far more extensive with mental background checks every three to five years with required test to retain said firearm.

 @nt2421from Ontario  answered…6mos6MO

Hunting rifles rarely are used to kill people so I am neutral on that. However handguns are involved in most murders in Canada so there should be very very strict background checks or an outright ban.

 @B2CCVB4from Ontario  answered…3mos3MO

for past violent criminals and they should pass a "stand your ground" law, which would decrease the amount of break ins and trespassing.

 @8R2YKWDfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

We simply don't need handguns or assault rifles. Only allow shotguns and hunting rifles for hunting.

 @9M3F3N7from Alberta  disagreed…12mos12MO

Banning these various firearms do nothing to prevent crime, as legal owners of these guns have regular background checks, training, licensing already in place and are not being used in gun crimes.

 @B4LB29CConservativefrom Ontario  answered…6 days6D

mentally ill people and criminals should not have guns, people with assault with a weapon should not either, but most people d have guns , for safety, and for hunting.

 @B45398Wfrom Ontario  answered…4wks4W

The current restrictions are sufficient. More effort should be made to prevent illegal guns from, the USA from entering Canada.

 @B43SRNXfrom Ontario  answered…4wks4W

Implement a complete background check and mental illness/health check, making a 2 week long wait period for the gun to be processed and handed over to the new owner.

 @B3MY9V3from Ontario  answered…1mo1MO

I think Canadians who want a gun licence should be allowed to, and maybe retake a test between 2-3 months of purchasing the weapon.

 @B3FL59Wfrom Ontario  answered…2mos2MO

in my opinion from statistics and overall crime rates making guns illegal made it more unsafe in the country. With basic and good moderation we should allow guns to be legal again.

 @B39J9Q9from Ontario  answered…2mos2MO

Conduct mental health evaluation every 5 years to determine whether the holder is mentally competent, and harsher punishment for offenders, and police funding to reduce smuggled weapons

 @B3243B6from Ontario  answered…2mos2MO

I think the real issue is keeping guns out of the hands of people who are already acquiring them illegally

 @B2WQSKGfrom Ontario  answered…2mos2MO

No, but training courses should be more intensive and include active firing drills, and concealed carry licenses should be permitted with even more intensive training certifications

 @B2RX4FJfrom Ontario  answered…2mos2MO

No, and we should implement castle law, can't carry guns in public but can defend our homes with lethal force.

 @B2L5VZSConservativefrom Ontario  answered…3mos3MO

Not only should most restrictions be removed, the government should pass a "stand your ground" law, remove restrictions on firearms able to be owned by civilians, and make it a Charter of Rights violation for any government body to remove the people's arms at any time for any non crime related reason.

 @B2HK6DVfrom Ontario  answered…3mos3MO

The current level of restrictions are fine, preventing the flow of illegal guns in from the US is more important

 @9TZ3TNGfrom Ontario  answered…7mos7MO

I feel we just need to be more cautious on who we are allowing to enter our buildings and the gun should be contained in your home or car and you must have a license for it

 @9TQD73XConservativefrom Ontario  answered…7mos7MO

No only for thosae who are mentally ill and violent criminals, there should also be a stand your ground law

 @9THJ79Mfrom Ontario  answered…7mos7MO

there should have to be a test you take 1 week prior to purchasing a gun that studies your mental stability, they should also run background searches.

 @9TG78F7Conservativefrom Ontario  answered…7mos7MO

Yes, require strict background checkz, psychological testing, and training but, thr government should pass a national "stand your ground" law.

 @9T9Y95Zfrom Ontario  answered…7mos7MO

no but the governament should make it more difficult for criminals the mentally ill and immigrants to aquire firearms and they should increase the penalty for gun crimes along with implementing a stand your ground law

 @9RPPNG7from Ontario  answered…9mos9MO

No, but there ought to be stricter requirements for the storing of firearms. Further, penalties ought to be introduced to prevent people who've lost of had firearms stolen from acquiring replacements.

 @9RCBSYBfrom Ontario  answered…9mos9MO

This was supposed to be a Canadian quiz. Why are the references about US incidents? I believe that our gun purchasing laws are sufficient. It is the illegal purchasing that needs to be policed better. Stopping illegal weapons entering the country would be a better starting point.

 @9QZVT44from Ontario  answered…9mos9MO

I think background checks and psychological testing is great, but I think gun related crimes should have a much greater penalty.
Immediate deportation if a gun related crime is committed by an immigrant, heavier jail time for citizens, and much heavier jail time if that gun isn’t registered. The penalty for using a gun on someone should be something to be feared.

 @9QQVM6Kfrom Ontario  answered…9mos9MO

Yes, I think all guns should be banned for the public, except for the jobs that require it, such as police officers and military professional, because honestly, guns have only caused more bad than it has ever caused good, and that is especially clear in places such as the US, where it is very legalized.

 @9PWN4M9from Ontario  answered…10mos10MO

Increase screening process for responsible owners. Fund safety and training courses. And make gun related crimes a lot more serious

 @9N227WHfrom Ontario  answered…11mos11MO

No, but only for criminals, the mentally ill, for assault weapons. Also, increase the penalties for gun-related crimes (no matter the age).

 @9MGKJW2Liberalfrom Ontario  answered…11mos11MO

Expand self defence law and allow the carrying of weapons for personal safety but ban concealed carry and introduce strict background check and psych test law.

 @9M4Y3KDfrom Ontario  answered…12mos12MO

guns should only be used in gun ranges or for hunting not in any type of public area or be accessible to the public you should have the proper license and documents to purchase a fire-arms

 @9M2NVQBfrom Ontario  answered…12mos12MO

I think no because real criminals have no problem getting illegal guns nowadays so they can kill and home invade this is why I think we should have castle laws like the US

 @8Y8RTJCfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8VHG65Bfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8MS74JBfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, only allow guns for hunting, but make the background checks more strict.

 @B4B4XQXfrom Ontario  answered…3wks3W

Every single answer to this question has proven to be insulting hand-wringing and burden shuffling that ends up piling more stigma on top of mental illness sufferers to the extent that that phrase, "mental illness", has become a cudgel for gun psychos to further stymy and suppress gun control advancement and enforcement. Nobody needs a gun.

 @B22Q2FBfrom Ontario  answered…4mos4MO

Guns are for hunting or self defence, that’s all. Owning. A gun would have to come with a legal agreement to use it for only hunting or self defence

 @9V32ZCRfrom Ontario  answered…7mos7MO

I think It should be made easier for the well minded and people who are checked to be properly using it, but never for anyone with a small flaw in the background checks or mental testing.

 @9T98NNNConservativefrom Ontario  answered…7mos7MO

The individual must pass a mental health analysis. They should be a certain age as well, and younger individuals cannot

 @9LX2BF9from Ontario  answered…12mos12MO

Yes, high requirements with much more freedom afterwards. As long as everyone is trained properly and checked, you should be able to own even military level equipment if you so choose.

 @9K6M454from Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

Guns should be free to use, but private selling can become an issue, and background checks can really help on a person.

 @9JS2P7Lfrom Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

Yes while making sure loopholes are closed while taking heavy measures like strict background checks, psychological testing, and training.

 @9JC6BKVfrom Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

There should be a divide on gun policy between cities and counties. It makes sense to own a gun where there are natural wildlife hazards that could endanger yourself or your property, however in cities gun ownership is almost exclusively a hazard to yourself and your neighbours.

 @9JBXLXSfrom Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

There should be mandatory mental health testing. Hell I am even for disabled people like Autistic people, it’s actually ideal to own one because we get taken advantage of or often forced to do things we don’t want, or don’t listen to us when visibly distressed like when we are having meltdowns. Things like yelling scares us. Plus we hate being touched. Even women should own one too, because they are also vulnerable.

 @9HGG7VGfrom Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

POV: we add the purge once a day and then like guns are very popular for the economy and stuff and then like no more anything bad like over pricing stuff

 @9H6DVYBNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

There should be a deeper background check and other test as well making sure the owner is aware and responsible of a firearm.

 @9H2962Jfrom Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

No, I believe that it should be less strict, and home owners who pass the restrictions can legally buy a gun for home defence.

 @9GYC866Conservativefrom Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

no there should not be more restrictions but there should be a test back round check and yearly check ins on gun owners

 @9GVMYT3from Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

No, legal gun owner are already subject to daily RCMP Background check and they are subjected to unwarranted searches and other penalties.

 @9GRZW9Kfrom Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

Guns should not be banned from the public, but potential customers should be put through more testing and background checks.

 @9GRZQ67from Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

Using firearms that are purchased legally are very safe and the problem is illigal firearms that are brought in from somewhere else.

 @9GH2S9Ffrom Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

Depends what there buying it for, and ask for police check and safety stuff, instead of selling it to someone who will go around shooting people.

 @9GGZDY6from Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

no, but there should be more for violent or sexual criminals and the mentally ill but there should also be a national stand your ground law

 @9GFVHJMfrom Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

No I am 15 and I have taken my firearms course and we learn all the safety and in canada we already have a stritct weapon saftey and there is no such thing as an "assault weapon" AR doest stand for"assault rifle" it stands for armalight rifle. and it wont help because the people commiting crims with guns have been proven that the weapons have been illegaly imported but gun runners from other countries which have been mostly the united states

 @9FRK4RNConservativefrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

No but the government should create more safety and background check programs as well as mental health checks

 @9FR4LPXfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

No, We should reduce the current restrictions on firearms, and we should repeal bills c-71 and c-21, and allow people to purchase automatic firearms, and let people purchase and transfer handguns again.

 @9FGQ42Lfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, there should be more restrictions to buying guns due to minors having them in their possession, school shootings have also increased for the past years so I think that says a lot about what should be done in order to protect innocent people

 @9FG9H2Cfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

Increase restrictions and penalties for gun-related crimes to lower incentive

 @9FDDWMCfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9F2K5SYfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

 @8SCRSMGfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

No and there should be less restrictions as well as having a stand your ground law

 @8S6Q4M4from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

No, but add a gun registry for all gun owners as well as a registry for any criminals or mentally ill patients.

 @9BZWDCFfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9BWP6T8from Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

The government should do the opposite because criminals will just use illegal guns. Allow guns for self-defense.

 @9BWMBBXfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

Not a safe world we live in. And people are getting crazy nowadays. Better put ban on permitting guns to any and everyone.

 @9BW2TZ8from Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

Guns should be allowed for hunting or protection but only select guns should be allowed and have strict limitations. Someone with a mental issue or criminal history should have stricter laws when dealing with guns.

 @9BP479Yfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

The restrictions should remain the same, however, the charge of using a gun for defence should be lowered

 @9BMDJJNConservativefrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

No because there's already enough lessons to own a firearm and the only legal gun types are shotguns and rifles

 @9BM2LRZfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

No, only for criminals,mentally ill, and people who fail on the test of gun usage (safety/reason/iq/temper etc...)

 @99YXYZMfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

 @99XRF24from Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

I think the gun use should be a different age for instance 16 year old should be able to buy them if have a license

 @98DHJQ4from Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

 @96QP3KDfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

gun restrictions are not the biggest deturent of gun viololence, its biggest desturent is ending the war on drugs coupled with reasonable laws that help the mentally ill

 @96K3HXPfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

No but require strict background checks, psychological testing, and training

 @96H58RBfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

 @96CX5Z3Conservativefrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

They should keep the buying the gun at the same level but lower the gun shooting wise

 @968J6P9from Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

Guns should be allowed (Including AR-15s) but of course have background checks, focus on mental health issues, also have mandatory firearm safety classes. After all, having an armed population can not only stop a foreign invasion, but also allow the people to be able to keep their rights.

 @95Z44MFfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, The buyer should also require a gun license given by the federal government

 @95P8Y5Lfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

for the allowence of guns to only be allowed for public use of for hunting and self defence not to be brandished around in high populated areas without heavy safety measures like no ammo being in it, safety always being on, the gun being in a protective case.

 @95J6B93from Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

Its already hard to get one, so I think its fine how it is, no more, no less.
