No, government should look to reduce the cost of education, particularly the cost of books, and learning material. Relevant educational material should not become obsolete within a year or 2 because a professor wants to include his work in a publication.

I don't have enough experience of student loan debt to understand the struggle properly, but since I've heard it's not fun to have student loan debt, I'm gonna say yes but not $20, 000 that feels too generous.

 @B46KGNNfrom British Columbia  answered…3wks3W

Everyone should have the option for 1 trade/degree/ diploma that is fully funded. Whether that's a trade or a doctor and everything in between all Canadians should have the option to start life out with a good paying job. That would improve country's quality of life the most

 @B3XKVWXfrom British Columbia  answered…1mo1MO

yes, depending on the situation of the student and the reason they aren't able to pay. I think if they are a hard working student who tries their best but just unfortunatlly can not pay the fees it should be forgiven.

 @B2ZLJS4Greenfrom British Columbia  answered…2mos2MO

No, but work towards making all university, collage, and trade education free once Canada is financially secure

 @9VVJGFWConservativefrom British Columbia  answered…6mos6MO

Adopt the model used in Norway and surrounding - all citizens pay higher taxes, but get free education and overall improve the country

 @9VMP4KLfrom British Columbia  answered…6mos6MO

yes but on a situation to situation basis and if the student has potential to pay it off in the future u can lower interest rates

 @9VGGMWSConservativefrom British Columbia  answered…6mos6MO

Yes, but only for Canadian citizens and based on grades earned or agreement to work in areas where their skills are needed if applicable.

 @9V2YV4Bfrom British Columbia  answered…7mos7MO

If the government has to spend money, I'd prefer it goes to this rather than things like injection centers.

 @9R72MJHfrom British Columbia  answered…9mos9MO

Yes for canadian citizens who are definitevly middle class to lower. It should be an application system where one can explain their situation. And the higher your grades the more forgiveness to inspire more excellence in our society.

 @9MJ9RZFfrom British Columbia  answered…11mos11MO

they shouldnt leave it but they shoudl make it less and make ths tudents pay a certain amount of loan debt every month so they can save soem money for themselevs too.

 @9MHJ95GConservativefrom British Columbia  answered…11mos11MO

Yes but only for people with good bank records and no major police offences or minor ones involving stealing or abusing money

 @9MBV33Jfrom British Columbia  answered…11mos11MO

I think that universitys should lower there price. This is because it prevents people who are unable to afford the cost the ability to recive a higher education.

 @9LJGNWTPeople’s from British Columbia  answered…1yr1Y

Unequivocally NO. Pay your damn debts like everyone else. Major in something productive that will afford you a career or job that will allow you to finance your life and pay off what you thought was worth borrowing for.

 @9FCS4RBfrom British Columbia  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9F984B3from British Columbia  answered…2yrs2Y

no but lower the interest rate and have the universities provide the loan and do the collections. That way both parties are motivated to incur less debt and use said debt more wisely

 @B2VNVNWfrom British Columbia  answered…2mos2MO

Yes, only for Canadian citizens who are working in Canada and contribute to society as a doctor, nurse, social worker care aide, etc

 @B2VKCYWfrom British Columbia  answered…2mos2MO

I agree with "No, we cannot afford this" and "Yes, but only for Canadian citizens" because If the government forgive up loan debt, It could cause Inflation, however if the Canada government change policy on citizenship and government doesn't give it to them well, I agree with second sentance

 @B2QTZCTfrom British Columbia  answered…2mos2MO

Yes and now, increase student expense aid and decrease interest rates for the remaining loans with the program.

 @9YLZZNZfrom British Columbia  answered…5mos5MO

Yes, but only for student loans for high demand careers for the public (I.e, medicine, engineering, etc.)

 @9SNLZ3Sfrom British Columbia  answered…8mos8MO

The Canadian government’s education system should be fully funded by tax payers in order for greater access for post secondary education and freedom of learning for better job access in all economic communities

 @9H952W8from British Columbia  answered…1yr1Y

Pay for students education. Employ them in a community where their skill set is needed for a minimum of 5 years. After that they are free to go where they want to work and live.

 @9GNXXXTfrom British Columbia  answered…1yr1Y

Have student loans reformed, with zero interest and a pause on loans for different income brackets, as well as potential forgiveness if they have paid a significant portion, but can't pay any more.

 @9FJDFK3from British Columbia  answered…2yrs2Y

Intuition should still be a thing however there should be a deposit for things like textbooks, dorms should also be cheeper as you are really paying for a bed. you might as well sleep on the ground under a bench.

 @96FW346from British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

Forgive for low income and reduce the amount of money Universities can charge

 @9672R4Cfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

 @95YJRW3New Democraticfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

Depends on if they will return it after a while, if they are low income, or if they can't pay for it.

 @95PY3ZBfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

Post-Secondary Education should be free to citizens of the country. This can be funded through taxes.

 @95K5YQGfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

This could be what makes life much more affordable for many Canadians, but I do worry about the risk of the student loan system collapsing altogether if we do this wrong. So, we should tread with caution.

 @956XVNYGreenfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, and actively work to lower tuition and hold universities accountable for what they charge.

 @94H5DWZfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

i think it would be more productive if education had been free in the first place.

 @94GRVCVfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

School shouldn’t cost money. More young people will become entrepreneurs because they will realize how dedicating the school system is and because they don’t want to pay the student debt. If everyone is an entrepreneur then we have no more doctors healthcare workers need to be paid more and the knowledge to become a doctor or nurse should be more accessible.

 @945C4M2from British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8ZBXDY9from British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8Z82ZM2from British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

Moving forward, reduce interest on student loans (Canadian citizens) only, along with capped tuitions.
Reduce funding for social programs for international students --- not to eliminate such programs, but greatly reduce funding, and complete a thorough assessment of what programs are required to support international students while studying in Canada. (Safety). Currently, I believe there are excessive supports and funding of international students, and not enough for Canadian students...and I have a lot of questions about this and other issues.

 @8Z5KNTPfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

Not really. It is a responsibility of the student to pay it back, but I just feel like the goverment needs to lower tuition fees or any other university/college fees.

 @8W7974Rfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

Students going into critical areas like medicine should have their loans forgiven if they work a number of years in Canada

 @8VLN7QKConservativefrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

Forgiveness is not the answer. The cost of attending university has ballooned to a point of no return and needs to be limited by the government to prevent massive debts. Alternatively find a way to increase competition between universities to lower prices.

 @8VLKPSYConservativefrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but the provinces should also follow suit, and it should only be for certain positions that are in high demand. What we should do for the rest is slash the interest rate to zero/as well as have a pause for some income brackets.

 @9BK2RQ6from British Columbia  answered…2yrs2Y

In the middle, as I'm open to it, but we should also be strategic about it. For some critical employment, such as some government positions, healthcare and even trades, we should pay student loan debt off as a way to get more people in. For the rest of the population, we should slash interest rates to 0%, as we want to encourage the populace to be educated, but also not have to go into massive crippling debt in order to do so.
