Canadaian life includes a lot of hunting. And hiking. Sometimes we need a gun. We also should be able to protect ourselves when the police are miles away and short staffed.

People kill people not guns, For example. When politicians attack guns they don’t have any acknowledgement about like the AR-15. It’s endangering people like my father who has it for self defence purposes and hunting, And before someone says you don’t need that 30 round mag to defend yourself. You do, and even if we could you can’t since there are strict magazine restrictions. Instead of attempting to ban more and more firearms, Ban mentally ill people from accessing these guns, Because at the end of the day. Banning a gun will just stop people from using and defending themselves with those guns, But a criminal wont suddenly think ‘ this gun is illegal I can’t use it ‘ before shooting up a school. They do not care, criminals Will always commit a crime because they do not care.

A private citizen shouldnt be able to defend a bag of money with a handgun if I cant protect my family with ojne

 @B47FML7from Alberta  disagreed…3wks3W

We already have strict gun control measures that prevent the wrong people from purchasing guns legally. People who commit crimes with guns today wouldn't follow more strict gun control laws tomorrow, so don't punish law binding citizens for criminals obtaining guns illegally.

In 2022, among the 113 homicides where information about the firearms was known, only 58 firearms were initially obtained legally. Among these 58 firearms, the accused was the legal owner in only 44% (24 cases) of the incidents. This is directly from stats-Can. Gun control only impacts the legal owners of firearms. I would argue that the 'dollars spent per lives saved ratio' would be higher with deterence programs, police budgets, and border security.

Increasing Gun Control, while it may help for reducing crime, it would seriously impact rural people who run buisnesses that rely on guns.

 @B3FHVJRfrom Ontario  disagreed…2mos2MO

I do not trust the government officials that hide behind armed security to tell me what guns are not needed for hunting, let alone protection.

 @B3DS235from Ontario  disagreed…2mos2MO

Legal gun ownership has almost no bearing on violent crime and it's a misuse of resources to add restrictions to law-abiding sportsmen & hunters when we are not targetting the real sources of violent crime.

 @B3DRJB3from Ontario  agreed…2mos2MO

No one wants to die at any given time, you can be walking down the street and because someone doesn't like you, your gone, you can be trying to protect your family from getting robbed and you'd die, things like that should not be happening anywhere.

 @B3D7P6FConservative from Alberta  disagreed…2mos2MO

With the current bill against gun control it is targeting the farmers, hunters and the legal buyers of these firearms. We should be putting more spending towards border security and policing in Canada to stop the overflow of illegal weapons coming into Canada.

 @B265Y7Mfrom Ontario  disagreed…4mos4MO

Punishing legal registered gun owners does not stop illegal gun trafficking, street violence etc. criminals do not care about gun bans. They are not affected by them. It is only punishing the innocent people who, by the very fact of having a PAL, are subject to a daily criminal record check. It targets the wrong prople.

People who want to get guns to hurt people will find a way to get guns regardless of government regulation

 @B4LX7S8Conservativefrom British Columbia  disagreed…1wk1W

We are not the states. It is not as easy as people think to purchase firearms in canada. Background and mental health checks already in place.

 @9LSLZ24from Ontario  disagreed…12mos12MO

Crime control not gun control. Gun control has historically allowed governments to abuse and enslave their populations.

IF BAD GUYS HAVE GUNS,,, who will shoot the bad guys? police? like heck. they are busy making aborbies and eating donut. only good, patriot americans with machine guns will be shootin the baddies.

 @9ZBQ9W6from Ontario  disagreed…5mos5MO

Regulate and control illegal guns coming and presently in the country. The legally owned guns are regulated enough already

 @B4PQCKW from Ontario  disagreed…3 days3D

Even Mark Carney in his stance identified that the gun crime issues in Canada come from illegally smuggled American guns. The amount of gun crime committed by legally owned guns in the hands of legal gun owners is almost a negligible statistic. Our gun laws are already rigorous and extensive. The increased regulation is highly costly to solve a problem that doesn't exist.
