I shouldn't have to provide data to try and convince people to let women choose what they want to do with their bodies. The reality is if you don't like the idea of an abortion, don't get one, but don't take that choice away from others. That is not fair.

I agree with this view. I support bodily autonomy fully with respect to abortion, vaccines and MAID. People should always be free to decide what happens to their body.

I agree with this comment about abortion. It should always be the woman's choice on what to do with their bodies. Sexual assault and rape, especially if it leaves the woman pregnant, should not become their responsibility. There are too many different cases to take the choice away from every woman.

Yes I agree, for example, teen pregnancy is a very common thing, no women should have the obligation to go through a pregnancy.

 @9GSK4ZKLiberalfrom Alberta  agreed…1yr1Y

Yes I agree, women should have the right to choose no matter the circumstance. For instance if a women is raped and ends up pregnant, she may not be in the financial situation to support the child, or emotional state to be a loving mother. There is also the case of teen pregnancy as accidents do happen and it is not a matter of just being careful. If you do not like the idea of an abortion do not get one, most of the people against abortion are men which should not have any right to decide what a women is to do with her body.

1. Reproductive Rights: The pro-choice position emphasizes the importance of a woman's right to decide about her body. This right is enshrined in many countries' laws and constitutions, and limiting access to abortion infringes upon these fundamental rights.

2. Healthcare and Safety: Access to safe and legal abortion services is crucial for women's health. Before the legalization of abortion, many women turned to unsafe and illegal methods, leading to significant health risks. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 25 million unsafe abortions occur annua…  Read more

People need to have rights over their own body because once the government starts controlling our physical limitations, we've gone too far

 @B2L4XDNNew Democraticfrom British Columbia  agreed…3mos3MO

I believe that women should have the power to make decisions regarding their health care. Accidents happen, assault happens and so does abuse, I would not want to have a child I wasn’t ready for, nor be tied in an abusive situation because of it. I wouldn’t want to bring a child into my home before I was ready to have one, no one should be forced to have kids.

Canada has a low abortion rate overall compared to other countries, with approximately 74,000 abortions reported in 2020. Roughly half of abortions occur among women aged 18 to 29 years and roughly 90% of abortions are performed within the first trimester (12 weeks).
We have a low abortion rate to begin with, and 90% of an abortions are in the first 12 weeks so why must you keep coming after the right to choice, the right to a person bodily autonomy and freedom.

if every life is valued, think of the woman, think of how that baby might be raised. the foster system. women who need abortions after a miscarrage.

 @9SXKSGMNew Democraticfrom British Columbia  agreed…8mos8MO

It’s is also extremely unsafe if abortion is made illegal as women will still proceed with an abortion just in an illegal way which now is putting the mother as well as the child at harm. Our focus should also be on the human life that is alive and in front of us (the mother) not prioritize the unborn child who once is born no one will care anymore about their quality of life.

 @9NHNVZTNew Democraticfrom Ontario  agreed…11mos11MO

People would agree with me because being forced to do something when you do not want to and being forced to have a child when you are not ready to nurture it would go against your human rights.

 @9LQMWC9New Democraticfrom Ontario  agreed…12mos12MO

There is absolutely no benefit whatsoever to taking away the right to abortion. Being forced to give birth to a child against your will is a traumatizing experience that often ruins if not ends the lives of the people forced to go through with it. The children of these people are very often neglected and abused because their parents are not in the right position mentally or financially to take care of a child.

Young girls who are not ready to have a child, poor people, disable people, rape, incest are all times when people may need an abortion

"More than 50 years of international psychological research shows that having an abortion is not linked to mental health problems, but restricting access to safe, legal abortions does cause harm. Research shows people who are denied abortions have worse physical and mental health, as well as worse economic outcomes than those who seek and receive them." -Abrams, Z. (2023, April 21). Abortion being illegal won’t stop abortions as people will still do it, similar to how people in prohibition still made and drank alcohol despite it being illegal, but the problem is without regulation and the required medical professionals, people will preform it either through sketchy people who claim to be doctors, who could cause injury or death to the patient. Similar to the example with prohibition, people would go to the mob to get it or would make it on their own, and the mob happened to be violent and could kill you if you did something they didn’t like and making your own alcohol could kill you because of the chemicals being toxic or you exploding your self. Making something illegal won’t fix the problem, it will just drive people to seek way more dangerous options

Its the womans body, so she should get to decide what to do with it not someone else. If a baby wasnt in their plan, then she shouldnt have to go through with it. Maybe they want to pursue their career.

 @9FDTJXXNew Democraticfrom Ontario  agreed…2yrs2Y

People can get pregnant not under their own terms (rape,etc) or at a time they are not physically able to raise a child (teenage years, poverty, etc) so they would just be putting the child in a bad place if the parent wasn’t allowed to choose to abort because the parent might not be able to support a good life for the child or could struggle caring for the child as they are a constant reminder of a traumatic situation. In the end, it’s their body and them that has to experience pregnancy and everything that comes with it so it should be their choice

In the US just this year (2023 as of the time of writing), a very young girl was assaulted and impregnated by a rapist and was forced to carry that criminals child to term due to a strict policy against abortion and women’s bodily autonomy.

Her name wasn’t released to the public, her assaulter got barely any sentencing and might be walking free as of right now, and she’s now forced to take care of a child whilst entering the 5th or 6th grade.

That alone is enough proof I need as to why I’m pro choice.

30 incidents of sexual assault per 1,000 population. Why should a person who went through that traumatic event have to keep the outcome.

I don't think anyone should have to convince someone to sway their opinion on this serious topic i Be live everyone should research for themselves and formulate tier own opinion on the subject.

 @9GTWWM4New Democraticfrom Newfoundland  agreed…1yr1Y

For women and girls, abortion may become a vital health care need. By criminalizing abortion and making it less accessible, it doesn't stop the fact that they might need one regardless. It stops doctors for giving the care required for their patients, and is plainly a form of discrimination. This could lead to women and girls getting unsafe abortions, which may cause serious injuries and the possibility of death, which could easily be avoided if abortion wasn't made illegal for certain locations in the first place.

 @9FWG2SWNew Democraticfrom British Columbia  agreed…2yrs2Y

According the the World Health Organization, 25 million women worldwide are involved in unsafe abortions. In the U.S. Death during childbirth increased by 30% from 2020 to 2021, meanwhile the U.S. has seen the highest number of abortion restrictions enacted in a single year.
