In mild climates sure, but the entire electric bus system in Edmonton shuts down in cold enough weather- that plan needs improvement before making it an issue

 @B4M8WX9from Alberta  answered…4 days4D

Yes, start with urban areas where electric buses and trains can have the biggest immediate impact, then gradually expand to rural and long-distance routes. Moreover, provide subsidies or grants to transit agencies for purchasing electric vehicles.

 @B49LKNYfrom Alberta  answered…3wks3W

batteries harm the enviroment more so by comparison, as well as we have more important things to focus on

 @B49LCG3Greenfrom Alberta  answered…3wks3W

yes and no because it will be better if we used electric cars and buses but we will also lose because the bills will be higher not only that the electric will be way too much

 @B47XGM6from Alberta  answered…3wks3W

I feel like a improvement in any and all public trains and buses is necessary not if it runs on electric or fossil fuel

 @B47FML7from Alberta  answered…3wks3W

No because we don't have the infrastructure to support the electricity demand required for public transit to be electric.

 @B46TQHLfrom Alberta  answered…3wks3W

Yes, where possible, however if forcing public transportation to convert solely to electric power inhibits access to public transport in needed areas (such as due to costs), then measures should be enacted to promote a healthy and cost-effective transition

 @B46H6QCfrom Alberta  answered…3wks3W

yes, but we truly need to understand the new issues we are causing with batteries regarding sustainability, recycling, environmental, etc. I believe we are too dependent on fossial fuels, but could just be replacing one bad option for another without proper planning and research.

 @B43QV9Mfrom Alberta  answered…4wks4W

Yes where feasible and sensible as well as increase funding for routine transit maintenance for gas and diesel up in priority and updating old vehicles. Maintained fossil fuel vehicles that are relatively modern are fairly clean

 @B3VGT8Mfrom Alberta  answered…1mo1MO

To a possible point, when it becomes a problem we should save it for later use and focus on current affairs.

 @B3PTXTYfrom Alberta  answered…1mo1MO

During winter it’s hard to keep an electric bus warm, we also have more important issues that need funding

 @B39XQHFfrom Alberta  answered…2mos2MO

I believe that we should eventually change all transportation to electric power but as of right now we should only be construction new vehicles like buses to just be electric while we wait to convert the rest as we have bigger issues to focus on like improving health care resources and education funds. once those problems are solved then we should focus on converting the rest of the already fossil fuel vehicles. I say we should do this because there's no point in spending money on new fossil fuel transport when we could just make the long term discussion to make it electric at least just for newly needed transportation.

 @B36RQXTfrom Alberta  answered…2mos2MO

its not fully electric because we still burn fossil fuels to make the energy it uses to run so I feel like if we found a more efficient way to do it while preserving fossil fuels and energy usage

 @B2YCTLZfrom Alberta  answered…2mos2MO

battery powered or electric public transportation should be implemented in large cities where the infrastructure can support it without having to create a bunch of new waste.

 @B2V8RRQNew Democraticfrom Alberta  answered…2mos2MO

It should be around 70% electric, and 30 % not, because something could go wrong and people still need to get to places, so backups are important.

 @B2SLFS2from Alberta  answered…2mos2MO

This should be dependent on the demand for public transport and if the area can support the massive increase in electricity that will be needed.

 @B2S3BFQLiberalfrom Alberta  answered…2mos2MO

Yes and no. Electric power, while sustainable, is about twice as expensive as gasoline. While making public transportation run solely on electric power would decrease green house gas emissions, it would cause an area to be bankrupt due to taxing and costs for paying for electrical power. I suggest only making long distance transportation run on electrical power (ex: out of state trains and buses), and keeping short, in-area transportation running on gas.

 @B2QX2NHfrom Alberta  answered…2mos2MO

I think they should be somewhat on electric but in the case of an emergency and there is no more elctricty then gas powered things would be beneficial and safer option. they both play a role in life and they do the same thing

 @B2MXWGHfrom Alberta  answered…3mos3MO

Short distance public transportations should be run on electric power to reduce but long distance buses and trains should be run with gasoline.

 @B2K8W4Dfrom Alberta  answered…3mos3MO

No, but incentives should be given to private companies to develop and advance electric infrastructure and technology

 @B2HMZCYfrom Alberta  answered…3mos3MO

Nothing that has been implemented to date has resulted in any benefits to the average (homegrown) citizen

 @B2HHSTVfrom Alberta  answered…3mos3MO

The most ecologically friendly alternative, while still being affordable, should be pursued for each situation.

 @B2B2C59from Alberta  answered…3mos3MO

Short distance travelling buses and trains might be better to become electric powered because electric powered transportations are expensive but at the same time they give a lot of advantages to the economy as well as the environment.

 @B29KW77from Alberta  answered…3mos3MO

Yes but only where visible… if costs are higher to use electric stay with the lower cost options as long as possible

 @B286ZK4New Democraticfrom Alberta  answered…3mos3MO

No, instead focus on building a solid & reliable infrastructure of public transport (like the UK) so less cars are on the road. This will reduce emissions.

 @B27PJGNNew Democraticfrom Alberta  answered…4mos4MO

Yes, but at very slow pace which would allow for a smoother transition and might help those who are going to lose their industry.

 @9YDW8XRfrom Alberta  answered…5mos5MO

No, because for the same amount of money we can increase bus routes and frequency which are proven to reduce emissions by a much larger amount. In the long run, sure.

 @9WT79V6from Alberta  answered…6mos6MO

Busses should not be electrified unless it can rely on a battery not overhead canary lines, however trains should be electrified.

 @9W2P477from Alberta  answered…6mos6MO

I support hydrogen fuel cells as a better alternative to electric. In the absence of hydrogen, electric is fine for provinces that generate their electricity from renewable sources or nuclear power. Otherwise, it doesn’t matter.

 @9V7LLXBfrom Alberta  answered…7mos7MO

No, the use of electric power by city transportation will only increase the cost of electricity to private individuals who drive electric vehicles already.

 @9TSHWFZConservativefrom Alberta  answered…7mos7MO

How about instead of making everything electric make it so bums aren't allowed on the bus, actually make people pay the 3 bucks. And make the bussing good. so many area of Edmonton need to take 3 busses just to get to school its ridiculous

 @9TG9Z7Wfrom Alberta  answered…7mos7MO

The majority of trains and buses should run on electric power, but we shouldn't completely outlaw fossil fuel using automotives.

 @9T9MY5DConservativefrom Alberta  answered…7mos7MO

I agree and disagree because electric vehicles are better for the world but it’s not safer so it’d be better to do it of fashion

 @9T82KBTConservativefrom Alberta  answered…7mos7MO

Not all trains and buses because the cost would be too high and transportation would be less. But overall aiming for more electrical vehicles is a splendid idea.

 @9T7WWLKfrom Alberta  answered…7mos7MO

I believe in both instances that electric and fossil fuels are useful and create opportunities for people in careers. Without the use of fossil fuels in our world, where would all the workers who work at these factories go? I believe that regulations on fossil fuels are a smart idea, however full restriction can be harmful to the economy.

 @9T26WNPfrom Alberta  answered…7mos7MO

Ev’s are too unreliable for Canadian weather, if anything we should use hybrids in order to reduce carbon emissions

 @9SZCP3Wfrom Alberta  answered…7mos7MO

No, have a mix of both electric and gas powered forms of public transportation. That way we cut emissions while also providing a more reliable way of transportation in colder climates

 @9SVZQJFfrom Alberta  answered…8mos8MO

No, not until electric vehicles become a more viable option in the extreme cold temperatures of the Prairies, Quebec, and parts of the Atlantic

 @9MX2TPBfrom Alberta  answered…11mos11MO

Depends on how that electricity is generated. A mixture of energy is possible if sustainable generation is achieved.

 @9MH9FG6from Alberta  answered…11mos11MO

No. Batteries are MORE harmful to the environment. Why create new mines for new materials for batteries when we already have oil sands.

 @9L5R7PFfrom Alberta  answered…1yr1Y

Electric power is generated and stored in diverse ways depending on location. It may or may not be more environmentally friendly. This must be determined by experts at a local or case by case basis based on facts.

 @9L2SXDRfrom Alberta  answered…1yr1Y

Maybe more of a gradual change? We could try to update things as they break down, for instance. If a bus breaks down and the next most environmentally friendly thing is a battery powered one, replace that. If that breaks down and the next best thing is even cleaner, move to that. But ONLY when it is necessary.

 @9JRVZFSfrom Alberta  answered…1yr1Y

we should slowly introduce the use of electrical vehicles. Although the cost of it is higher pay and less available distance travelled i believe it is better to have a sustainable environment future than one with air so polluted you can hardly live to meet any struggles.

 @9JM8BRPfrom Alberta  answered…1yr1Y

Although there are benefits to electric powered vehicles, discarding the batteries that power them causes way more pollution than normal gas-powered cars. Added, the overall efficiency of charging large heavy powered vehicles requires so much time which reduces efficiency when it comes to public transit unless more of these vehicles are made to have schedules in which they operate. If electric vehicles were to be added to all of public transit, they should be hybrid vehicles to both reduce fuel consumption, but also be efficient for people who require public transit daily.

 @9HDV4JKfrom Alberta  answered…1yr1Y

yes some should, but not all in case of a power outage. we will need gas or coal powered transportation

 @9H6GJSNfrom Alberta  answered…1yr1Y

There is a 50/50 with the electric power as it would make transit environmentally friendly. However, I believe some still should be gas-operated to ensure a balance between electric and gas-powered.

 @9GN46RJfrom Alberta  answered…1yr1Y

Trains yes, buses, as much as we can but if it would require moving out of our own way to do it then no

 @9GMSV2Ffrom Alberta  answered…1yr1Y

It depends on the source of electric power, especially when it comes to electrifying public trains and buses. For example, the environmental impact of lithium battery mining can be just as harmful, if not worse. However, this shouldn't discourage us from embracing electrification for public transportation. It's important to recognize that there are pros and cons to all approaches. In fact, I support any measures aimed at preventing environmental depletion in the context of public trains and buses.

 @9FPG8CXfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

Making the switch to electric power is expensive, and is being able to afford food not more important? I would say start with a handful of electric power. Not all need to be switched to make a difference.

 @9DZPFSTConservativefrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

Somewhat, even though it is better for the environment, electric power is more expensive than fossil fuels and are less efficient. If we upgrade the technology than yes.

 @9DKJPVNConservativefrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

No, public transportation should be be powered by whatever means necessary at an ideal level.

 @9C44Q36from Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

No. most regions in Canada have severe winters and will not be practical for our climate. If thiss were California id say go for it

 @99YBXJJLiberalfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

When the current info structure is still safe to operate and is not immediately harmful to the environment we should continue ti use it for as long as possible however once it is necessary,
to replace we should replace it with more environmentally friendly options
