No, not until all Electrical Energy on our power grid is generated with clean energy, nuclear energy is the real answer, charging batteries with power generated by burning fossil fuels actually is more harmful.

 @B24CNGLfrom Alberta  answered…4mos4MO

we should gradually change over to electricity when we are able to make it cost less than petrol or diesel

 @9LKR58Yfrom Saskatchewan  answered…1yr1Y

Yes but I don't think that its particularly feesible at the moment. There are also very important factors like geographical location. This is more easily accomplished for cities and densely populated areas and not more northern communities so it is unfair to have a blanket statement for all of Canada.

Diesel Electric busses with regenerative braking would be very effective, and rail should be run on straight overhead electric locomotives. Infrastructure costs would be high but long term maintenance and running costs should be much less. If some rail could be provincially run, then they could utilize subsidized power, if they already have crown corp for power.

Creating Batteries for Electric Vehicles makes a big carbon footprint on the Earth, just as Fossil Fuels do, so this is not a question I can answer if we are looking to not die from Climate Change. If we find a way to generate electricity without using Lithium Ion Batteries, then ask this question to me. But I believe, the production and disposal of electric car batteries emit more carbon dioxide than traditional cars.

 @9FKML6Ffrom Saskatchewan  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, but make the change gradual in order to make the transition as smooth as possible

 @9FJKDG9from Saskatchewan  answered…2yrs2Y

Not yet, batteries are not quite ready for Canadian winters, especially in colder regions, so until then there are adequate advances we should wait

 @9DF6BHMfrom Saskatchewan  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, as long as the batteries are durable and take years to become unusable

 @99WWQD2Liberalfrom Saskatchewan  answered…2yrs2Y

No, not all buses should run on electrical power, but we should increase the amount of electircal powered buses as it would be more ecofriendly.

 @95JPJWQfrom Saskatchewan  answered…3yrs3Y

Only if the electrical generation in the area is not based on carbon emission

Yes, if it’s economically and ecologically viable, with encouragement towards making greener/more-profitable advancements and alternatives/alterations. No, if we’re unprepared to meet the requirements of an all-electric public transport model.

 @8Z687VBPeople’sfrom Saskatchewan  answered…3yrs3Y

it would need to have a diesel electric hybrid so that they dont need to charge or mine lithium the diesel engine would be purely for a generator

 @8Z3Q3R6from Saskatchewan  answered…3yrs3Y

I feel that even though vehicles are being improved so that they are electric. But in some cases what will happen if the power runs out then your stuck, because you broke down, or you end up waiting a few hours recharging the battery of you vehicle. So we are trying to get rid of gas. But I feel there should be exceptions for things like that.

In a community, they should be able to use gas because it's less being used up because you're not going as far, but for travelling from one community to the other, it should be electric.

 @8VMRNB6from Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

no because the power is expensive and could raise the money for it to get on the train/bus

 @8VKXG62from Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

When the cost is right and vehicles need to be changed then look at a more environmentally favourable one

 @8VJCD53from Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

No, because electricity is currently strained due to coal fired plants closing.

 @9CBKRP7from Saskatchewan  answered…2yrs2Y

yes batteries are harmful as well, but slowly switching to electrical transportation will be more beneficial in the long run.

 @9C8HZ72from Saskatchewan  answered…2yrs2Y

Although it is better for the planet it’s not going to take us where we need to be because it will run out of power

I think it should be run on electric power because they travel lots of miles in a day and we need to limit the amount of fossil fuels burned and thats a great way to start.

 @9B5Q3WXConservativefrom Saskatchewan  answered…2yrs2Y

No, not every transportation can run on electricity as it not as easily atainable

 @99WWN67from Saskatchewan  answered…2yrs2Y

Public Transport should only run on eletric power if it improves the functionality and or reduces enviromental damage.

 @99WWFLNfrom Saskatchewan  answered…2yrs2Y

No, because making electric batteries is worse for the enviroment then having fuel,coal,gas

The buses are fine as of now but if it is easy to replace the buses with new ones that run on electric power and is also cheap then yes. The buses run on gas so I feel like electricity doesn't affect the environment as much as gas.

 @97VV7LKfrom Saskatchewan  answered…2yrs2Y

we will be using gass powered trains,buses for years but their will soon come a day where electric vehicles will take over.
