The reason people started the get rid of Staws movement was because of a meme. The Save the Turtles meme to be exact. and guess what your "green" objects have in them too, NON-RECYCLABLE PLASTIC!

 @9G3MBPLGreenfrom Ontario  disagreed…1yr1Y

I wasn't aware of that but if that's the case then we should get people to make fully green objects.

 @9G39YDLConservativefrom Ontario  disagreed…1yr1Y

Some, but not all, some companies have put plastic in their products and called it bio-degradable and recyclable, while others have went and done 100% We should have a non-biased company or the federal governments food services ministry inspect and qualify those who actually make their products environmentally friendly.

 @9G4KFRWLiberalfrom British Columbia  disagreed…1yr1Y

the "save the turtles" trend was not a meme but instead, one of the first times a social and environmental issue had been made widespread across the internet. If you were not looking carefully and seeing the more profound message, it might be easy to see it as just another meme trend. However, everyone was very serious and it was just made popular through new ways like social media instead of through the news or protest like some other environmental issues.

The quote you guys put is really grammatically incorrect and weirdly formatted. What's up with that.

 @9FPMD79from Ontario  disagreed…1yr1Y

I personally don’t think they should hand plastic products because it will cost Canadians more money to switch because now anytime you walk into a store you can’t forget a bag or you will most likely have to buy one. By then switch to wooden spoons too and not using plastic spoons forks etc, it doesn’t make any sense as those items don’t really effect the environment, but celebrities flying there private jest for a 30 minute car ride will end up costing the environment more then some measly plastic spoons

 @9FXGP3KPeople’sfrom Manitoba  disagreed…1yr1Y

Products are made in disposable containers but we can’t use a plastic bag to take them out of a store.

 @9FW2CHVfrom Alberta  disagreed…1yr1Y

No because paper straws are terrible and we can have plastic stuff just dont litter or things like that

 @9YM4YHWConservativefrom Ontario  disagreed…2wks2W

The plastics chosen for the ban accounted for less than 5% of plastic waste. The alternatives come in higher numbers so the emissions savings is negated by the additional clean up cost. The easiest option is to put the issue on the consumer, ie rather than have companies change their plastic waste which in turn funnels down the cost, just force the consumer to put up with the change. On top of the fact the plastics listed can not be listed as a toxic substance so can't be banned for environmental risks

 @9VR4K73New Democraticfrom British Columbia  agreed…1mo1MO

There should be no plastic ban, we just need to find a way to reuse and create new items so it doesn’t harm anything as much.

 @9NGYNHCfrom Alberta  disagreed…6mos6MO

Unless companies are willing to spend money on alternatives for plastic products that work, it’s no use to waste more reusable products.

 @9MH7ZFMLiberalfrom Ontario  disagreed…6mos6MO

With the ban plastic, what will be replacing those products to still allow for the same convenience and quality if not better than the plastic product.

 @9M2JRWYfrom Saskatchewan  disagreed…7mos7MO

Plastic is used for, keeping food fresh like zip lock bags and making tools with 3D printing like product that people could sell. It's cheaper, lighter, and safer then wood and stone. Plastic doesn't give splinters, it is not heavy, it does not need polishing, and it doesn't take a lot of time to use.

 @9LXYYRNfrom Alberta  disagreed…7mos7MO

Nobody likes paper straws or wooden forks tell me I’m wrong like not tryna get a splinter in my mouth

 @9LCJVG5Conservativefrom British Columbia  disagreed…8mos8MO

When your drinking a Slurpee or cold drink and then your straw completely melts you will wish you had a plastic straw.

 @9JXJYCCRhinocerosfrom Ontario  disagreed…9mos9MO

No because we are using more energy and resources on making paper straws because consumers are taking more paper straws to finish one drink at lest 24.5% of people use two or more straws per drink in most fast food places or restaurants that support the paper straw act.

 @9H4W2CPfrom Alberta  disagreed…1yr1Y

yes, because think of it if we have plastic lids but yet we dont have plastic straws what difference is it making that my salivas not on the lid

 @9H4NZ93Liberalfrom Ontario  disagreed…1yr1Y

Banning plastic products doesn't necessarily mean less pollution. The plastic product production is one of the most used production in the world. There is over 380 million tons of plastic produced every year and it would take more resources to produce more biodegradable products. Using the plastic and recycling it is the best way to maintain plastic production and would be more efficient than spending excess materials on biodegradable product. Biodegradable product would be non-reusable and would therefore cause excess production of more biodegradable material, thus increasing the production of biodegradable material and creating more product pollution than before.

 @9H4JPHCConservativefrom Ontario  agreed…1yr1Y

Plastic litters our oceans. It kills animals that nevertheless would have survived if it wasn't for the plastics we use.

 @9GSD7BTfrom British Columbia  agreed…1yr1Y

Plastic usage is increasing by the minute, and we need to save the ocean to have clean water for us and other upcoming generations.

 @9GSCMJSfrom British Columbia  agreed…1yr1Y

since humans have started using the soft plastics and the other plastics the health of the planet and the living beings on earth have slowly started to die of bad conditions.

 @9GQSWPKfrom Alberta  disagreed…1yr1Y

we are banding plastic straws or other plastic products as if that makes a huge different impact and as if all the famous people dont fly out somewhere that is less then 30 mins away.

 @9FV8LKFConservativefrom Alberta  agreed…1yr1Y

The plastic typically used in bottles, bags, and food containers contains chemical additives such as endocrine disruptors.

 @9FN7N29from Ontario  disagreed…1yr1Y

there are many plastic products that such as bicycle seats, helmets, child safety seats, and many more.

 @9GJS3WMfrom British Columbia  disagreed…1yr1Y

Plastic is an essential cheap product that is usable and it saves our country money. All we need to do is recycle these products with more diligent thinking.

 @9GGH43Dfrom Alberta  disagreed…1yr1Y

Biodegradable products actually emit more carbon when produced than plastic products. Paper products (like straws), are less effective as they begin to decompose while still in use. This often requires individuals to use more than one item, which defeats the purpose of paper products.

 @9GCRRCDfrom Newfoundland  disagreed…1yr1Y

There have already been so many plastic products made. We shouldn't abolish them. We should take a more serious approach on people that litter these products.

 @9G6KB5BNew Democraticfrom British Columbia  agreed…1yr1Y

its just hurting the environment from straws, fruit and veggie holders, cups, lids, even plastic toys one one use plastic is not good for the environment its creating unnecessary garbage and it will not be helping us in the long run

 @9GBCVLJfrom Alberta  disagreed…1yr1Y

well when we use plastic we use it for bottles bags straws and ect.. if we banned platistic then we would ue paper cups which is really weird if ur getting a slurpee or a drink from a fast food resurant.

 @9G7DMZ7from Alberta  disagreed…1yr1Y

The same thing will happen which occurred years ago, we will end up switching back to plastic again because it’s killing the trees.

 @9G2M8W8from Ontario  disagreed…1yr1Y

It is worse for the enviroment to cut down trees for paper stuff, and paper is very bad for our body
