I believe there should be less privatization of hospitals because privatization can lead to public dispute and promote discrimination towards the public with less power or status.
@9FKGRCH2yrs2Y
There may be new immigrants to Canada who may need the health assistance and the free healthcare that we provide.
More workers will be incentivized to work in the private sector and the public system will become much worse. This discriminates against people in lower classes and subjugates them to worse standards of healthcare. Healthcare should be a fundamental right to everyone and income should not give anyone an advantage over others.
@9GPTYFS1yr1Y
While there are positive implications of healthcare privatization, my counterargument to the "more" position on healthcare privatization highlights potential drawbacks such as disparities in access, fragmentation of care, profit motives, administrative costs, and the risks of compromising health quality for financial gain as well as exponentially drive inequity. Extensive privatization of health often prioritizes those who can afford to pay leaving vulnerable populations such as low-income individuals and those with pre-existing conditions with limited access to essential medical services. Thus, in a privatized system such as in my home country, the Philippines, the ability to pay can become the primary determinant of the quality of care received.
@9GFTXDS1yr1Y
Healthcare privatization will indefinitely damage canadians, as not only will many die from prioritizing people with more money, but it will also cause monetary decline in households effected by such. Low income families will suffer, and people with less severe injuries, or more time to treat it, will be prioritized instead of the person who needs it more. Therefor, I believe privatization of healthcare to cause more harm than good.

#1 Engaged Healthcare Privatization
Given that the current healthcare system is stretched thin and new talent is not being created fast enough to meet demand, privatizing healthcare will drain resources from the established system. Privatization does not directly address the scarcity of resources. Privatization is a short term fix that only exacerbates problems in the future. Profit-seeking ventures in medicine have become exploitative and drive costs higher in pursuit of larger returns. Healthcare is expensive to expand, but incentives that are by nature exploitative will not address shortages, but rather drive even higher cos… Read more

It could be unfair to families struggling with income and this gives off the impression that only people that meet specific requirements should be able to access these benefits.
@B47838L1wk1W
The US currently has a privatized health care system that results in people going bankrupt for receiving the care that they need. No one should have to sacrifice their way of life to receive healthcare.
@B463K932wks2W
Just look at the United States, privatised healthcare results in the poor in society having to give up everything to try and get the help they need almost always through no fault of their own
@B45RPLV2wks2W
It is unfair to those who cannot afford private costs and rely on public services. It also creates tension within the country, allowing the rich more rights than those who are middle or lower class. We need to overall increase the quality of healthcare in canada.
@B3ZHCRK3wks3W
It has been proven that it raises the costs for the consumers. It encourages vicious capitalistic practices, which is really not a good thing for a healthcare system designed to be equal for all.
@B3R2ZFY4wks4W

If healthcare is privatized, it will incentivise greed and corruption, driving the prices up and making healthcare unaffordable.
@B3N52R84wks4W
We shouldn’t have to get an invoice for receiving healthcare, not everyone has a lot of money especially with some of our loved ones
@B3G2Z9H1mo1MO
There is no reality where more privatization will not see an increase in prices and/or poorer care. It has been shown to be the case with long term care homes as well as healthcare costs in the US. As long as there is money to be made, corporations will continue to increase costs and reduce staffing.
@B3FZFRB1mo1MO
Offering essential services, like healthcare, to everyone at a high level is important for the wellbeing of Canadians and to their identity. Privatization will only benefit the rich, both in terms of immediate access, and in the ability to lobby for better rates and care.
@B3FYHSW1mo1MO
Privatization and for profit just means the money comes from customers, and there's no need to apply that limitation on a system where the customer sometimes can't pay but need the service.
@B2Z8LKT2mos2MO
The privatization of healthcare kills the many who cannot afford it. You do not value human life is you wish for healthcare to be more exclusive. Privatization will allow companies to monopolize and raise the prices of life-saving care for many.
@B2SCWX42mos2MO
Healthcare is the health of the people and so privitization gives off the impression that the health of the people don't matter.
@B2S96STConservative2mos2MO
Public healthcare is extremely beneficial people don't realize its much better to pay tax's then upfront as paying up front for most people would put they in extreme debt and possible bankruptcy
Health system in Canada is not good at all no matter if you have emergency or what you still have to wait and wait there which is waste your time money. Plus Canada doesn't have so many private hospitals where we can go. We should have more family doctors specialist in private hospitals.
@9L37JFN1yr1Y
Studies have shown that countries with more privatized healthcare systems often experience higher costs and lower overall health outcomes compared to countries with more government involvement. In fact, according to the World Health Organization, countries with universal healthcare systems tend to have better health outcomes and lower healthcare costs per capital.
@9HF4SJK1yr1Y
Use the money that is paid to the healthcare system by those wanting quicker service let them. Then that money can be used to improve the health care system in Canada.
Healthcare in Canada is great nad we should keep it great by sticking and funding Healthcare Privatization and focusing on this area
@B39WHK71mo1MO
People from all walks of life need Healthcare. Good care should be available for all, not just those who are wealthy enough to afford it.
@B36YYHV1mo1MO
Healthcare is a human right, privatization leads towards stripping this human right away from low-income individuals.
@B34CK9T2mos2MO
There are hospitals that stop their services at 3:00pm. Why would we privatize when we cant even get 24/7 services for endoscopes
@B2PK6XW2mos2MO
Healthcare is a basic human right and by privatizing it it puts it in the hands of corporations and private owners rather than our government
@B2N8YSS2mos2MO
Look at the states. Really looking at them. People avoid being taken in an ambulance as it can bankrupt them. And health insurance companies try every trick in the book to not pay out to the point one person shot a CEO and majority of the online social media citizens praised him before people learned what the CEO was doing (1000% upcharging for cancer treatments) then they praised him even MORE for taking the CEO out. Nationalize Healthcare.
@B2NKLX8Independent2mos2MO
Most Canadians depend on public Healthcare. If milk is $10 a gallon and the cost of living is this high, most Canadians may neglect their health and choose to suffer alone or resort to suicide due to being unable to afford Healthcare treatments. Some provinces are poor, have slow economic growth and would not be able to provide Healthcare to its residents.
@9ZZ2N4X4mos4MO
Ends up losing taxpayers more money, healthcare resources are more strapped. people are more incentivized to pay more for services that their taxes should cover.
@9ZXNYPZ4mos4MO
Everyone should be able to afford it when in serious critical conditions, it should not bankrupt or rid someone of their entire savings as we see in the United States
@9ZTCTM84mos4MO
Simply compare Canada's health care spending based on it GDP vs the USA's health care spending (basing this on the GDP accounts for population discrepancies)
@9ZM5L5T5mos5MO
Privatization could lead to a lack of access for low-income Canadians as medical professionals can earn more in the private sector.
@9ZJY6V55mos5MO
Healthcare should be available to every and all people, no matter their class, financial situation, or any other reason. In this case, the further privatization of the healthcare industry would constrict the amount of people who can afford it by price gouging essential medications and services.
@9NP5LZ910mos10MO
Proper funding into the field to allow more doctors and nurses, whilst still allowing the privilege of everybody the chance to get the care required without pushing into either long-term debt. Your wellbeing is not defined by how much money you make.
@9LX8VJY11mos11MO
Privatization of healthcare only solves our current problems for the wealthy, and effectively pushes us towards a stratified healthcare system. With how much corporate and wealth interests are already overstated in our politics, this would only lead to further prioritizing of "premium" services at the detriment to working class Canadians.
@9LX8PJJ11mos11MO
Making individuals pay and potentially go bankrupt for healthcare is morally indefensible and a harm to workers and productivity. The only benefit is to the rich who own the medical facilities in question.
@9LQSQYK12mos12MO

By increasing the privatization of Healthcare, citizen’s ability to access and rely on Canada’s Healthcare system already in place will only decrease further. This is a step in the wrong direction, as more attention should be paid socially and financially towards our Healthcare system. The Healthcare system in all forms, symbolically and what should be practically, saves lives and allows free and even access to Healthcare to serve and support our citizens. By privatizing the Healthcare system further, we as a country are limiting our citizen’s Healthcare options in what shou… Read more

Public healthcare insures that any and every individual who needs medical assistance receives it, with no restrictions to do with money or lack thereof
Although it may allow the country itself to have less debt, its citizens will suffer greatly. and provide that "rich get richer and poor get poorer" mentality
@9GTNSCS1yr1Y
As inflation continues, and the lack of supply of healthcare workers degrading the public healthcare system in Canada post-covid. Less people have the ability to opt for private healthcare and public healthcare has its serious concerns and degraded quality since the pandemic, requiring much of the governments attention at this current time.
@9FNYB3C2yrs2Y
When everybody is healthy, everybody can contribute to society in a more productive way. Healthcare is a right, not a privilege and everybody should be entitled to the same quality healthcare regardless of their status.
@B2XHWX22mos2MO
If healthcare becomes more privatized, it will be more difficult for more regular citizens to get access to it. Moreover, if healthcare is more privatized, it can be more expensive, and not affordable to the general population.
@B277CKS3mos3MO
Why would we privatize healthcare and make it more inaccessible then it is already in Newfoundland. 60% of this place couldn’t afford to pay to see a doctor
@B24CNGL4mos4MO
people in the USA, where healthcare is privatized, go bankrupt on a nearly daily basis. if healthcare was privatized it would ruin canada.
@B23GQQX4mos4MO
More privatization might be good for some industries and sectories, people aren't able to shop while in need for healthcare. Privatization of hospitals will make it more expense for people in need of medical help. I do not want large corporations of hospitals to be profitting of the sick.
@9H2F9SH1yr1Y
Healthcare privatisation is a dangerous road to go down. Give private health care companies an inch, and they will take a mile. Private healthcare costs a lot, and those without a lot of money cannot afford such healthcare, and allowing privatised healthcare will only cause it to spread throughout Canada.
@9FJVZMX2yrs2Y
In addition, 45 per cent of respondents said they worry private care would only worsen the system, while 36 per cent said privatization would improve it. In Ontario, 53 per cent said private care would worsen the system, more than any other province.
@9FTQ3SLNew Democratic2yrs2Y
People who have recently arrived in Canada and might need our free healthcare as they are currently in a bad financial position won't be able to receive it. This would lead to them thinking poorly about our system and even deciding not to go to the hospital at all for an injury that might end up being serious.
@9FSL857Conservative2yrs2Y
A small percentage of the wealthy end of capitalism will get better healthcare, but the vast majority will receive worse treatment.
@B2XQWN2New Democratic 2mos2MO
Here's a strong counter to healthcare privatization, incorporating the Ontario context:
Market Failures in Healthcare:
- Healthcare doesn't function like normal markets - patients can't "shop around" during emergencies
- Private insurers have incentive to deny care to maximize profits
- Administrative costs in private systems are significantly higher (US spends 25-30% on administration vs 2-3% in single-payer systems)
Ontario's History :
- Since early 2000s, deliberate underfunding has strained the public system
- Recent moves toward private surgical clinics mirror… Read more

Advocating for more privatization of healthcare emphasizes benefits like improved efficiency, higher-quality care, reduced wait times, and increased innovation. Private entities, driven by competition, invest in advanced technology and patient-centric services, while reducing strain on public systems. Examples like Singapore show how mixed models balance access and efficiency. Concerns about inequality can be addressed with proper regulation and subsidies, ensuring privatization complements public healthcare while enhancing overall performance.
keep it public since we ain't all rich. Plus elders need emergency surgeries that could cost thousands compared to the already free healthcare. why make it private.
@B2BKQD3 3mos3MO
Who the hell wants to pay $1800 to get a ride to the hospital and also you need to be protected under like a contractive sort so and sometimes they stopped so you just end up dying every way
@9ZS8S4RIndependent 4mos4MO
Privatization for hospitals isn’t a great idea, but neither is taking away money from them, because then they raise there prices and only the rich can get in, while people with lower incomes struggle to keep up
People wait for way too long when they want to see a doctor in hospitals therefore a lot of problems cannot get fixed and eventually get worse after 12 hours of waiting. People should get more access to healthcare in shorter time, even paying for that could be acceptable.
@9FXZGWT1yr1Y
Privatization of healthcare has been shown to make life-saving treatments harder and in some cases impossible to fund for low-medium income households and even in some cases financially cripple households. The argument that privatized insurance would make up for this is flawed by the very nature of privatized insurance companies being motivated by profit and having on several cases found loopholes to avoid covering in full or in part, the cost of the treatment.
Universally Funded healthcare on average costs less for each individual in added taxes than privatized insurance will, as well as… Read more

I believe that it's unfair for people who can't afford to wait hours or days even before attending the doctor. Some of the people in the lower side of the money line can't afford to miss things like work or from being at home if they have younger kids.
Privatizing our healthcare only benefits big corporations (Loblaws, etc.), allowing them to rake in hoards of money and allow them to set the prices on our health needs. Healthcare should be accessible to everyone and should not be based on how much money you make. We should not have to ask ourselves, "Am I able to afford this medication for my children?"". Do not trust corporations with your health. They do not care about you. They only care for making a profit.
