Regardless of how severe the restrictions are on gun control, criminals will still get their hands on guns (whether by stealing from a registered owner, black market, 3D printing, etc).
As for who gets to own a gun, my stance is pretty much the same as everyone else, where those with a criminal history of violent crimes should be forbidden from owning a gun.
There is also the issue of one's personal safety when a police response isn't immediately available. Those in rural areas and those living in areas where trust in the police is strained will have a significantly delayed response time, leaving the caller in vulnerable position. Taking away the guns from a responsible owner in this situation effectively leaves them with no viable option for their safety.
