According to a review published in JAMA Psychiatry, cannabis use has been associated with an increased risk of anxiety disorders, depression, and other psychiatric conditions. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) indicates that marijuana use can lead to dependency and addiction, with around 9% of users developing a cannabis use disorder. Making it inevitable that they will return straight back to using marijuana. A study in the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs suggests that heavy marijuana use in adolescence is associated with negative outcomes in terms of academic and occupational functioning.
