War is eternal, so long as there is something to gain from it. The only way war becomes obsolete is with a global government ruled under 1 leader and even then; wars will persist in new ways

War will always happen if there is something to gain from it, war will only become obsolete when there are enough guidelines and safety measures in place to make it impossible to start a war, but then people will find other ways to war against each other.
