The Liberals' inaugural budget contains a $29.4-billion deficit for 2016 which is 10.2% of government spending. Proponents of spending argue that it is a great time for the government is going to borrow money, since interest rates are at 50 year lows. Opponents argue that the spending could get out of control and the debt could easily reach $100 billion a year by 2020.

Yes, we must cut inefficient spending, not core services. However economics prove that there is a need to focus on economic growth (immigration, productivity, tech) to grow out of the debt instead of just cutting.
@B4BJ8992wks2W
No, focus on tax evasion and cut the number of government officials instead, especially those working from home. I have a lot of friends that work for the government (accountants, secretary's, etc.) that sit at home all day and play video games.

The gov needs to find and cut loopholes, corporate welfare, make sure the resource extraction of our resources is fed back into our coffers not the companies doing the extraction. Oil gas minerals lumber, water, it all belongs to us as the common good and that money needs to be fed back into our country.

End tax evasion. Reduce number of government officials. Lower foreign aid for uncooperative and hostile countries not aligned with our views. Lower federal spending on responsibilities that are primarily provincial. Strong arm provinces to fund their responsibilities seriously and efficiently. Cut all funding for special interest groups. KILL THE FEDERAL GUN BUY BACK PROGRAM.

No, instead the state should: reduce military spending, increase taxes on multinational/large corporations, increase taxes on the wealthy, and focus on ending tax evasion.

@8YC6HXM3yrs3Y
The government should achieve positive results for the spending it does. Hold companies and organizations accountable for not fulfilling government contracts. The current government overspends on matters that do not contribute to the economy or to improve the lives of the majority.
@8XKT3BG3yrs3Y
Regardless, reform to Destination-based cash flow tax (DBCFT)

@8VH2TZWConservative4yrs4Y
Ideally not and I think the answer lies in how we tax major multinationals like Amazon and Walmart. They are literally destroying the local economy and even more so since the pandemic.
@8VDV7PW4yrs4Y
Eliminate wasteful spending on frivolous projects, focus spending on socio-economic and environmentally conscious efforts. Such as free IVF, carbon emission offsets and renewable resources, that can create jobs and reduce carbon footprint.
@8TN4GLW4yrs4Y
Yes, and decrease taxes simultaneously
@8SYLNDP4yrs4Y
Yes, but only once tax loopholes and a strict reformation of government process have been done to cut down on needless red tape measures which increase the number of government employees without necessarily providing an increase in productivity.
@8SF7HN34yrs4Y
No, focus on ending tax evasion, increase the taxes on large multinational corporations, reduce the benefits of government officials, and increase taxes on the wealthy
@8PJQWSR4yrs4Y
It depends on what you are decreasing
@8NT92S54yrs4Y
