Conservative

The Conservative Party of Canada, colloquially known as the Tories, is a federal political party in Canada. It was formed in 2003 from the multiple right-wing parties which had existed in Canada for over a century, historically grouped into two camps, "Red Tories" and "Blue Tories". The "founding principles" of the Conservative Party appear in both the constitution and the policy declaration. They are the reasons that the Conservative Party was formed, and thus the only part of the constitution and policy declaration not up for possible amendment at a national convention.

What role do you think governments should play in influencing personal responsibility, and has this affected how you or your peers see the world?

 @9TSVBD6from Ontario  answered…2mos2MO

I don't believe governments really should be influencing personal responsibility.

 @9TWHXYPConservative from Ontario  answered…2mos2MO

Through legislation, social services, and education, governments have a significant impact on how people define personal responsibility. Their impact has the power to motivate people to make responsible decisions and to feel more informed. Government programs in the areas of health, education, and financial literacy, for instance, can enable people to take charge of their own well-being

What does freedom of speech mean to you, and where do you think we should draw the line, if at all?

 @9J8WFDBfrom Pennsylvania  answered…10mos10MO

Freedom of speech means freedom of speech

There should be no Thought Crime and thoughts are formed by discussions. Discussions are speech. Keep laws away from speech and thoughts.

 @9RC8G4Cfrom Nova Scotia  answered…4mos4MO

You should be able to do and say when you want and be left alone by the govt, as long as no one is being harmed by the rhetoric, otherwise, stop things like blatant racism and hate.

 @9KMDGPJanswered…9mos9MO

Freedom of speech is very important. Let citizens make up their own mind about a topic. “You can fool some of the people some of the time, some of them all of the time-but not all of the people ALL of the time. “ Common sense should prevail.

What's your take on the importance of national defense and military spending for a country's safety?

 @9RCH475from British Columbia  answered…4mos4MO

Our current geopolitical climate is tumultuous to say the least. We have historically relied on our American neighbours for defense, but we must also bolster our own independent protection. With the rise in drone warfare, we have a strong opportunity here to strengthen our defensive capabilities by investing in drone R&D. Drone technology will not only bolster our military capabilities, without risking Canadian lives, but strengthen agriculture, fire suppression and other industries for the greater benefit of our country as a whole.

 @9KMDGPJanswered…9mos9MO

Military should be provided the best on order to defend the country. However, having alliances with neighbours should help deter possible threats.

Liberal

The Liberal Party of Canada is the oldest and longest-serving political party in Canada. The party has dominated federal politics for much of Canada’s history, holding power for almost 69 years in the 20th century—more than any other party in a developed country—and as a result, it is sometimes referred to as Canada’s "natural governing party". The principles of the party are based on liberalism as defined by various liberal theorists and include individual freedom for present and future generations, responsibility, human dignity, a just society, political…  Read more

Yes, I think the Chrétien/Martin era and the concept of a "Progressive" Conservative party tends to show this, and broadly appeals to the moderate, incrementalist, "mushy middle" approach of most Canadians in particular.

Reflect on the role cultural diversity plays in your community; do you see it as a strength, challenge, or both?

 @9RHCG7Vfrom Ontario  answered…4mos4MO

More of strength then a challenge as for a long time and still now Canada is viewed as a multicultural hub for people of all walks of life. Therefore, if a liberal means it reflects the role that diversity plays in your community that is a good thing

New Democratic

The New Democratic Party is a social-democratic federal political party in Canada. The party was founded in 1961 out of the merger of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation with the Canadian Labour Congress. On the Canadian political scene, the party sits to the left of the Liberal Party. The NDP evolved in 1961 from a merger of the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) and the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF). The CCF grew from populist, agrarian and socialist roots into a modern social democratic party. Although the CCF was part of the Christian left and the Social Gospel movement, the NDP is secular and pluralistic. It has broadened to include concerns of the New Left, and advocates issues such as LGBTQ+ rights, international peace, and environmental stewardship.

Reflect on the policy of not including socially conservative issues like abortion and gender identity in a party platform; how do you think this impacts its appeal to a wider audience?

 @9SVFGXLanswered…3mos3MO

I think a more conservative side of Canada would be drawn by the People's Party's decision to not include social issues into their platform. Although I do not agree with this decision as I believe social issues are a fundamental part of society and should be taken into consideration when governing a nation, those who have more politically controversial opinions on this subject in a modern world would likely prefer not to speak about it at all.

 @9TTFZM4New Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…2mos2MO

Libertarians are the political house cats of society.

They are fiercely convinced of their own independence with no real world concept of what actually puts food in their bowl everyday.

Libertarians are the worst kind of liberal.

 @9TTDV9Ffrom Ontario  answered…2mos2MO

Libertarianism as it is currently understood is as a branch of capitalism. Under a capitalist economy with no regulations the exploitation of the working class only gets worse. Also a good chunk of "libertarian"s nowadays are either in it for those financial reasons or due to specific government rules that have to do with the ages of those they "interact with".
