The transportation sector is the main contributor of greenhouse gases. One initiative towards mitigating these gases is sustainable transportation, with significant reductions in emissions in this sector.

doesnt really matter to me
@9VW5KW2Conservative6mos6MO
Not all, should be implemented when to environmental impact of doing so is great enough to outweigh the cost of implementing.
@9VJ8335Conservative6mos6MO
No, but we should slowly transfer into this phase investing money at a solid pace, other important issues need more funding
@9TSHWFZConservative7mos7MO
How about instead of making everything electric make it so bums aren't allowed on the bus, actually make people pay the 3 bucks. And make the bussing good. so many area of Edmonton need to take 3 busses just to get to school its ridiculous
@9T9MY5DConservative7mos7MO
I agree and disagree because electric vehicles are better for the world but it’s not safer so it’d be better to do it of fashion
@9T98NNNConservative7mos7MO
I think instead of being satisfied with electric power, batteries are just as harmful to the environment. They need to focus on solar power, wind power, and water where they can.
@9T82KBTConservative7mos7MO
Not all trains and buses because the cost would be too high and transportation would be less. But overall aiming for more electrical vehicles is a splendid idea.
@9RW6ZLWConservative8mos8MO
yes, but old busses and trains should be used until the end of their capacity before purchasing new ones
@9K3F9YCConservative1yr1Y
Yes, but at a slow pace as this will need a lot of government funding. Perhaps within the next 20 years…
@9JYPG3KConservative1yr1Y
Trains could run on electric overhead wires, however battery powered buses may have reduced reliability during harsh winter
@9FKHF48Conservative2yrs2Y
I dont really care at all
@9F7VSRKConservative2yrs2Y
I can see the benifit from doing so but i dont mined
@9DZPFSTConservative2yrs2Y
Somewhat, even though it is better for the environment, electric power is more expensive than fossil fuels and are less efficient. If we upgrade the technology than yes.
@9FY64BFConservative2yrs2Y
depends on the current technological advancements we make in the future. I think currently, we do not have the technology that will help the economical crisis that is global warming
@9DKJPVNConservative2yrs2Y
No, public transportation should be be powered by whatever means necessary at an ideal level.
@9B23QV3Conservative2yrs2Y
if we are using diesel-powered equipment to get the stuff out of the ground it is pointless
@96LKK2KConservative2yrs2Y
@95TFT8BConservative3yrs3Y
Depends on the cost and overall effect on environment
@955HCR4Conservative3yrs3Y
Where possible, like TTC streetcars, but not battery power.
@92VCKC2Conservative3yrs3Y
if we have the money to support that
@92SKD4YConservative3yrs3Y
@92NGPWDConservative3yrs3Y
They should try to make a stride towards going electric
@927JW2CConservative3yrs3Y
This doesn't matter to me as much right now
@8YYQJCBConservative3yrs3Y
It is good, but not all buses and trains, it would be too expensive.
@8YW224FConservative3yrs3Y
No, but try to make more of them electric
@8YFHZQZConservative3yrs3Y
No, They should prioritize having the infrastructure to support the mass change and draw of electricity before conversion
@8XWVGGDLibertarian3yrs3Y
Yes, but we should get there slowly, be responsible, and be sustainable.
@8XJQ6D7Conservative3yrs3Y
If the society wants to save their city, then yes
@8VVFRBZConservative4yrs4Y
They should run on natural gas
@8VPVQJ7Conservative4yrs4Y
No, but they should start adding more electric transportation.
@8VPMD3QConservative4yrs4Y
Yes, but only in cities/regions with existing sustainable electricity generation
@8VP7LCCConservative4yrs4Y
In an ideal world yes. But this is not a general priority really.
@8VNWVPXConservative4yrs4Y
If there is enough money, than yes
@8VNM4B5Conservative4yrs4Y
where it would be more suitable in big cities, yes. but smaller towns no.
@8VLD6CSConservative4yrs4Y
If it’s electric it won’t really help anything because it’s getting oil energy
@8VLCM8NConservative4yrs4Y
maybe as long as it doesn't tale so much money
@8VK24RWConservative4yrs4Y
@8VHSX2RConservative4yrs4Y
If we could generate a large amount of energy efficiently without the use of oil to create that electric power then we should but if we need to convert the power multiple times it will only be counter effective because we would just need to burn more oil to make said energy.
@8VHL8R2Conservative4yrs4Y
Sure, but where does the electric power come from? This is a ridiculous question - if you primary source of power is nuclear or coal - are you riding on an electric bus or a nuclear or coal powered bus -
@9CMH3WPConservative2yrs2Y
It doesn't really matter to me much
@9C9DSLJConservative2yrs2Y
Just places outside of Alberta
@9C7VHL9Conservative2yrs2Y
I think that the trains should, but not necessarily the buses.
@9C4BJPYConservative2yrs2Y
Yes, but not necessarily all or some low carbon footprint alternative
@9C3DZQMConservative2yrs2Y
No, trains should run on electric power due to the potential for high speed rails, however it is impractical to make all public transit run on electric power
@9BYBS29Conservative2yrs2Y
they could that's all up to you
@9BJQCLTConservative2yrs2Y
yes but further in the future
@9B5Q3WXConservative2yrs2Y
No, not every transportation can run on electricity as it not as easily atainable
@99PMZC6Conservative2yrs2Y
Yes, but we don't need to use batteries, we can use wire and 3rd rail.
@99F8TDHConservative2yrs2Y
Yes, but have a backup power source such as gas tank that kicks in when the battery dies.
@99CX4DZConservative2yrs2Y
Some public buses and trains.
@99C6BCLConservative2yrs2Y
Other means of fuel ei. propane
@996MBWHConservative2yrs2Y
Not all of them. Due to budgeting and cost
@995ZSF6Conservative2yrs2Y
Batteries harm the world more then fuel
@95GXY8CConservative3yrs3Y
Yes, as long as the solution is less impactful on the environment as fuel powered vehicles.
@93B2CSQLibertarian3yrs3Y
Running busses on electric only power would take massive batteries. While I do like electric powered vehicles, I think hybrids are a better solution
@92569NCLibertarian3yrs3Y
No, not all should run on electric power. But some should to be environmentally friendly
@92569NCLibertarian3yrs3Y
No, not all should run on electric power. But some should due to costs.
@8WTGFHGConservative3yrs3Y
Yes, but we need to find an alternative to lithium batteries.
