Jagmeet Singh, leader of the NPD party, proposes forgiving up to $20,000 of student loan debt and doubling student grants, as well as giving new graduates a five-year grace period for federal loan payments. This is based on the fact that, according to studies, in recent years, numerous students have been unable to repay their academic loans.

Universities should be the ones to forgive the debt, as they are the ones asking for such large sums of money in the first place. People from low income families with good grades and academic performance should be eligible for debt forgiveness from their respective university.

Yes, but only for students with excellent grades. In addition, students with poor grades should have to pay a tax to pay for smarter students' education.

If there is a good reason behind not being able to pay the debt back then it should be partially forgiven. Unless the student abuses the system then it cannot be let go. But, if the student has problems and is trying to pay the debt off, they should lower the amount he has to pay, as they will pay taxes and such in the future anyways.
