It takes a lot more skill to use a bolt-action, pump action, lever action, revolver, or single shot firearm and is not something anyone off the street can cause AS much "damage" with as a semi-auto firearm. These other firearms are also generally limited to magazine size options by length of barrel, which is a great deterrence to shooting situations. If you can physically only have 5 rounds In a firearm that takes time to reload, you can't be close to anyone, to shoot from afar takes more skill. Banning past semi-automatic firearms would be useless and a waste of money. You essentially would only take away the guns that would never have ended up in criminals hands. If the government is going to take a gun from you without compensating you fairly, people would think, you may as well sell it on the streets and actually make money instead of losing money. I can still hunt and do any sort of activity you could ever properly ACTUALLY use a gun for with a semi-auto firearm.
