Yes, butt only when the police officers know how to use the equipment and only when they are in an extreme situations.

Back when I was a child, growing up in a family of police officers, cops had the standard equiptment and used it to the best of their knowledge and ability, based on the situation they were about to enter. The weapons they carry are not conducive to the reason(s) they use it, i.e. guns don't kill, people do. It's all about the mindset of the officer, not the weapon. If you have a trigger-happy cop, it's not going to matter what he's/she's carrying
