Depends on how effective and influential a social and community based programs are. It also depends on how much new technology and systems the local police need

 @B32P3GSLiberalfrom Alberta  answered…2mos2MO

Better training. More diversity to reflect community. Physical fitness tests every 5 years. More community policing instead of reactive

 @9Q6NXYQfrom Alberta  answered…10mos10MO

No but they should go through more training and be provided or required to take courses regarding race and other cultures to open their eyes and minds and to hopefully prevent more incidents requiring race to happen

 @9KMFJ99from Alberta  answered…1yr1Y

use current funds to train police officers to better handle situations involving mental health issues and other nonviolent options to prevent crimes.

 @9JQ8T5Jfrom Alberta  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, but still fund local police departments & require all law enforcement officers follow a strict code of conduct.

 @9JLDB4Xfrom Alberta  answered…1yr1Y

Police units should be paired with social workers, mental health workers, etc. so they can go out on teams for suicide, domestic abuse, etc.

 @8QZQKLKfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes but they should also have more funding for educating the police force on racial inequality.

Have police and community based responders available for non-violent calls

I believe that we should give the police more but also give some for programs but majority police

 @8Z3Q6LXfrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

No, increase funding and training for police to react and respond appropriately for each call. Encourage de-escalating techniques

 @8V6RLGMfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

it depends on the local police department and social community-based programs.

 @8TZ65QCfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes. Funding should be distributed among various agencies with specific training. Of course funding should still go to police who are trained to respond to crimes. But more funding to social agencies including safe consumption sites, mental health and child care could significantly prevent crimes the police have to respond to.

 @8TF3JTTfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

No. Increase the required both provincial and federal law. As well as mandatory therapy and counseling sessions for all officers.

 @9944BMHNew Democraticfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

While police should not be abolished, some funds should be redirected to social programs.

 @9928V75from Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

No it should instead be redirected to funding increased reliability (better mental health response, and ethical decisons based on various spectrums of social preassures) of police and alongside the increase in funding a increase in responsibility and liability be placed on police in instances of malpractice

 @98ZL3DQConservativefrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

Police should have better funding for training, but there should also be a community of volunteers for non violent calls

 @98ZDGC7from Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

There needs to be a complete police reform, otherwise we are just funding racist murderers.

 @989ZJ93from Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

Police officers should be more helpful to the community and undergo strict supervision.

 @95GB29Pfrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, replace most of the police with unarmed community based responders for non-violent calls

 @929RHG2from Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

More focus should be made towards education, housing, and social assistance in order to reduce the need for police

 @8VFHPR8from Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Create additional resource officers who are specifically for community outreach and mental health. Sometimes it be how the community doing, not what the community doing
