Should funding for local police departments be redirected to social and community based programs?

Yes

Funding should be distributed among various agencies with specific training. Of course funding should still go to police who are trained to respond to crimes. But more funding to social agencies including safe consumption sites, mental health and child care could significantly prevent crimes the police have to respond to.
