Terrible example given up above and misleading. For legally-entering immigrants, yes they should be deported if they commit a serious crime.

 @B4ND5LCfrom British Columbia  answered…3 days3D

No, only if they entered the country illegally. If they entered legally, they should serve the appropriate time judged by the government

 @B45T6JKfrom British Columbia  answered…3wks3W

No, departing from the country should be the same for immigrants and Canadians therefore you should not dump your garbage\ immigrants or Canadians that committed serious crime on other people\ countries

 @B45PV3Zfrom British Columbia  answered…3wks3W

What is their citizenship? If they're permanent residents or Canadian citizens that immigrated to Canada, then no they should not be deported.

 @B43S4G8from British Columbia  answered…4wks4W

This should depend on the situation and severity of the crime. We must also ensure that if they are deported, it is safe for them to go to their country, and also ensure that they will face consequences for their crime on Canadian soil in their home country.

 @B3HJ6ZZfrom British Columbia  answered…2mos2MO

Yes, but it should be dependent on the nature of the crime and whether the individual poses a continued risk to the public, or high likelihood of re-offending

 @9ZMK8WWfrom British Columbia  answered…5mos5MO

no, they should face the current punishment for their crime that abides by the laws of the place of which the crime was commited.

 @9SSXMWWfrom British Columbia  answered…8mos8MO

Only if it’s safe back in their home country, and it depends on the crime, for example, theft can not be compared to something like sexual assault.

 @9JYPDGGfrom British Columbia  answered…1yr1Y

No, they should only have to serve their time then if they commit repeat offense it should be their replacement for jail time

 @9FDGX7Jfrom British Columbia  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9F233YSfrom British Columbia  answered…2yrs2Y

If they're a citizen then no. If they have t become citizen, yes. If it's safe

 @9DZXPT6from British Columbia  answered…2yrs2Y

I think that it depends on the crime they commit. If it is a serious crime then yes deport them but if it is a minor crime and they have no record I think that you could let them be.

 @9DZBD2Qfrom British Columbia  answered…2yrs2Y

Depends on if they've become a Canadian citizen, then no. If they haven't and the crime is violent, then yes...as long as it's safe to return to home country

 @9B462GKfrom British Columbia  answered…2yrs2Y

 @99S4GZVfrom British Columbia  answered…2yrs2Y

immigrants should sign a contract that they are subject to the countries laws that they are moving into beforehand, with help from people of their own language to understand the rules and juristictions they are submitting themselves to. then, if this contract is agreed to be signed, they are not deported. they must sign this contract to immigrate

 @8S6RTFTfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @B3XKVWXfrom British Columbia  answered…1mo1MO

If it is safe for them to return to their country then they can go back after committing a serious crime to serve their sentence, but if that's not the case they should be able to serve their sentence here.

 @B3VJWVMConservativefrom British Columbia  answered…1mo1MO

Immigrants who came illegally should be deported if they do nothing since they are committing a crime just by coming here so yes They should get a death sentence for committing a serious crime

 @9WPNHTJfrom British Columbia  answered…6mos6MO

well if thare family is stuck in canada then keep them in canada then if their family is elts where keep them with their family

 @9W9M54Xfrom British Columbia  answered…6mos6MO

the only case where deportation could/should be used as a punishment would be if the person in question commit a heinous act of terrorism against their community.

 @9VWTLN7from British Columbia  answered…6mos6MO

It depends. It have have become a citizen or PR, or would require a life sentence anyways, then no they should stay. I think it can be considered as grounds to deny PR or citizenship and deport if they would not require a lengthy sentence

 @9VDRGX4from British Columbia  answered…7mos7MO

if they came in illegally they should be sent back to there country when it is safe but if they commited a crime here they should serve there sentences and be released.

 @9V7JKBZConservativefrom British Columbia  answered…7mos7MO

Only if they are here on a permit, if they have Permanent Residence then they should be treated the way any citizen would

 @9TMCB8Jfrom British Columbia  answered…7mos7MO

depends on what you consider a serious crime, also, if the person is a legitimate threat to the country, then yes, but other than that probably not, no.

 @9T2PRNXfrom British Columbia  answered…7mos7MO

Only if they’ve entered illegally, cannot enter legally now and it is safe for them to return to country of origin

 @9P4KQSSLibertarianfrom British Columbia  answered…10mos10MO

it depends on the context and the crime, and if there country is not safe do to war then they should serve their sentence in the country they were in and not in there home country

 @9KDT5TPfrom British Columbia  answered…1yr1Y

depending on the sevarity of the crime, they should be punished regardless wether it be in canada or their home country.

 @9G5FYPVfrom British Columbia  answered…2yrs2Y

If they are a citizen then no, but if they do not have a citizenship they should complete their sentence then be deported.

 @96BDNPYfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

After they have finished serving their sentence, as long as it is safe for them to return to their country.

 @95YV2DZfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

I think this should be in a case-by-case basis considering their experience with their country of origin, their ability to be rehabilitated, the risk should they return, etc.

 @95Q23W7Liberalfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

 @95KPDN9from British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

they should be treated as any other human and sentenced to a fair amount of jail time, rehab, etc

Yes, but only after serving their sentance and their country is safe to return too.

 @8VPXW7PConservativefrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

No, they should just go to jail in the country that they are residing in.

 @8VPTVSSfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

Depends on where it will be safest for them to go as well as the severity of the crime

 @8VN56M6from British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

If anyone commited a crime they should be punished accordingly. Whether or not that'd involves deporting, I'll leave that up to the current law.

 @8VMSYVLfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

if they are a citizen of Canada they should be tried here, if the only have a visa or are illeagealy here, they should be sent back

 @8VMKJCFfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VM9HDDfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VLSTJTfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

I think they should do there time in Canada and then be returned to their original country only if it is safe

 @8VLDWFRNew Democraticfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

if they have served their time and can prove innocence they should be fine

 @8VKKSCLNew Democraticfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

I think it depends on how serious the crime is. If it’s a really horrific crime, then yes, I think the person should be deported. If it’s a potentially serious crime, but nothing too dangerous as been enacted, then I think it should be up to the Canadian law to rule out the seriousness of the crime, then decide if deportation is necessary.

 @8VK4K5Jfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

They should have a set probation period that if anything happens in that time they will be deported

 @8VGZJ7Gfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

No, if they committed the crime in our country then they should go through our country’s processes

 @8VGQCJHfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

Entirely dependent on the circumstances of the individual and of the crime

 @8VDZG7Qfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

If it’s safe for them to return and if they have not been in Canada for a long time

 @8VBS2WPfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8V7MX8Vfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, along with their families if repeat offenders or violent/gang related crimes.

 @8V5DYM7from British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

If we had implements in place to aid the immigrants that the government itself approves to enter to country this wouldn't be an issue in the first place.

 @8V4WPWHGreenfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

No, they should serve their sentence here and pay their debt to the society they committed the crime against.

 @8V3LKFCfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8TYYK3Bfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8TY2YD2from British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8TWF8KQConservativefrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8TQTW27New Democraticfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

No, immigrants who have acquired either Canadian citizenship or permanent residency have the same right to be here as everyone else. However, foreigners without citizenship or permanent residency who are convicted of violent crimes should be deported in some cases.
