If they are a canadian citizen then no. They should be treated like any other citizen.
@9DQGQ99New Democratic2yrs2Y
If they aren't yet citizens
@99NJ57KNew Democratic2yrs2Y
No, unless it is a major felony/sexual crime.
@9QRG62WNew Democratic9mos9MO
It depends if they are brought up here as a child, because then cultural differences play a huge role
@9P8NRFMNew Democratic 10mos10MO
If it is safe to do so then maybe. However, deporting an individual because of a serious crime does not necessarily solve or fix an issue. The offender may still continue to commit crimes even after they are deported.
@9N28RJQNew Democratic11mos11MO
I think it depends on the nature of the crime, does it show that they are using their immigration status to do crime, or is that a part of the crime's circumstance - the fact that they are an immigrant
@9MF8SPN11mos11MO
Only if they have been rightfully convicted of a seriously felonious crime via a fair trial and they are not a documented citizen. If they have been documented already, then they should not be deported.
If illegal they should be sent back after serving their sentence. If legal they should serve their sentence.
@9BQH29ZNew Democratic2yrs2Y
Yes as long as they are not citizens and the crime was proven
@96KGPBCNew Democratic2yrs2Y
Yes, It the crime is repeated multiple times
@969ZY3ZNew Democratic3yrs3Y
No, and they should be treated as if they are this country citizens
@95XHWSYNew Democratic3yrs3Y
only when the crime very serious and have a bad impact all over the people.
@94S2TM7New Democratic3yrs3Y
Yes, but only if they have not been here for a long period of time (e.g. less than 3 years).
@93SV8HBNew Democratic3yrs3Y
they should follow the law in current country and accept punishment
@92JWPGRNew Democratic3yrs3Y
Yes, but only for the most serious of crimes
@8ZSBL2SNew Democratic3yrs3Y
Yes, but it depends on the crime they comitted
@8Z7H8WPNew Democratic3yrs3Y
Depends on crime and home country situation.
@8YQFFXHNew Democratic3yrs3Y
only if they've entered the country illegally and it is safe for them to return to their country
@8XMZ4R2New Democratic3yrs3Y
If they are an immigrant turned official citizen, than they should go to jail because they committed a crime. But if they are just an immigrant, I think they should still go to jail and go back to their country after the sentence (depending on how serious the crime is).
@8WLDXSPNew Democratic4yrs4Y
Depending on if the country they are getting deported to could kill them eg; North Korea
@8WB65YDNew Democratic4yrs4Y
they should be treated the same as anyone who has lived here their whole life.
@8W2RHG24yrs4Y
Yes, but only if they have not yet become citizens
@8VSDVY2New Democratic4yrs4Y
If they are a Canadian citizen treat them as one. If they aren’t a Canadian citizen yet and they commit a very serious crime it should potentially be considered apart of their sentence in certain cases
@8VM85YMNew Democratic4yrs4Y
Complicated. They should be tried and punished as all Canadians for first crimes and deported for any serious crime committed after the first?
@8VLDWFRNew Democratic4yrs4Y
if they have served their time and can prove innocence they should be fine
@8VKKSCLNew Democratic4yrs4Y
I think it depends on how serious the crime is. If it’s a really horrific crime, then yes, I think the person should be deported. If it’s a potentially serious crime, but nothing too dangerous as been enacted, then I think it should be up to the Canadian law to rule out the seriousness of the crime, then decide if deportation is necessary.
@8VHRBFVNew Democratic4yrs4Y
It depends on what the crime is, and how long they have lived in the country, and if it is safe to deport them.
@8VHN27ZNew Democratic4yrs4Y
Not if they became a Canadian citizen beforehand. And not if they’re home country is not safe. Deporting people with nothing to go home to is disgusting.
@8VG7D8QNew Democratic4yrs4Y
no, they should be punished equally as anyone else would be
@8VFQPQRNew Democratic4yrs4Y
Only if they are not citizens or permanent residents
@8VF2XNBNew Democratic4yrs4Y
Only depending on the type of crime and if it was intentional. And if it is safe to return to their home country
@8V8Y5QLNew Democratic4yrs4Y
If it is safe to enter their own country, but also depending on the crime. People who have committed more severe crimes that pose a larger threat to Canadian safety should be deported, but illegal immigrants should not be.
@8V2D4KSNew Democratic4yrs4Y
I think this is a case by case basis.
@8TVC9W3New Democratic4yrs4Y
No, if they have achieved citizenship, they should not be deported.
@8TQTW27New Democratic4yrs4Y
No, immigrants who have acquired either Canadian citizenship or permanent residency have the same right to be here as everyone else. However, foreigners without citizenship or permanent residency who are convicted of violent crimes should be deported in some cases.
@8T9TWZ4New Democratic4yrs4Y
Ask what they would prefer.
@8T3T2ZFNew Democratic4yrs4Y
It depends on the situation at hand.
@8T3RW2VNew Democratic4yrs4Y
Lifetime sentence in jail.
@8SV4XVH4yrs4Y
Depends if none life threatening then no but murder or animal abuse and sexual assault on some occasions or hate crimes.
@8SRQFFDNew Democratic4yrs4Y
No, if they are an official citizen then they receive punishment given by Canadian law
@8SLS8SLNew Democratic4yrs4Y
Hugely dependent on crime severity. Violent crimes and assault or endangerment to the public.
@8S2TVT9New Democratic4yrs4Y
Yes, only if they are not citizens. Each case determined on its own merit.
@8RN4KTT4yrs4Y
Only if they're not permanent residents.
@8PZFK7Y4yrs4Y
No, immigrants that enter the country should receive the same rights as well as the same punishments as other citizens of our country.
@8PS37M5New Democratic4yrs4Y
No, unless it's a violent crime, in which case they should still serve their time here first.
@8PQSKSGNew Democratic4yrs4Y
only if they entered the country illegally and if it is safe for them to return to their home country
@8PBLDKRNew Democratic4yrs4Y
if they committed a serious crime , then yes
@8P5N3XX4yrs4Y
No, but they should have to serve a prison sentence
@8NQ6PYGNew Democratic4yrs4Y
No, if they are citizens and have lived in Canada for the majority of their lives they should be incarcerated the same as a Canadian citizen.
@8K76JSQNew Democratic4yrs4Y
Depending on the type of crime. if it is self-defense based, then no. they should not.
If it is a one time offense depending on the gravity of a situation, an assessment and psychological evaluation should be made to ensure that they are not a danger to society. if they are judged dangerous, then yes they should be deported as long as it is safe for them to return to their country. otherwise they should serve their sentence here.
@8FB86GLNew Democratic5yrs5Y
No, if they are a Canadian Citizen, they should be tried in Canada and stay in Canada
@8CB9YFTNew Democratic5yrs5Y
it depends on where they come from and if they commit a serious crime they should just go to jail
@9CMSLDJNew Democratic2yrs2Y
They should be given a second chance and if there is they commit a serious crime again then they should be deported as long as its safe for them to return.
@9CF8LLSNew Democratic2yrs2Y
No, because they have a reason for leaving their country and if they committed a serious crime it could also be initiated by citizens who don't want immigrants in their country. So they should serve their sentence and be given a chance to prove themselves worthy of staying in the country
@9CDDXXJNew Democratic2yrs2Y
Not if they are a citizen and not if it is unsafe for them to return
@9C7LBXWNew Democratic2yrs2Y
No, they should be treated the same as other citizens
@99HH6R5New Democratic2yrs2Y
No, immigrants should be punished according to their crime and not their entry method.
@98XT5XBNew Democratic2yrs2Y
Yes unless they are a legal citizen
@93QVB9VNew Democratic3yrs3Y
Only if they have a repetition of crime behaviour.
@93Q9ZPTNew Democratic3yrs3Y
No, but they must serve the sentence.
@8VK9L2RNew Democratic4yrs4Y
No, just serve their sentence for however many years it is. But sometimes the government can be tough because of the racism sometimes and it's mostly the POC, immigrants etc that serve a longer sentence than people who are from that area/country.
@7PTCG384yrs4Y
Yes, only for felonies of a violent nature
@6HM8ZBP3yrs3Y
Yes, only if they're not a citizen AND they have committed treason, murder, rape, or any form of crime that endangers society.
@8X3ZWX43yrs3Y
Yes, unless they have obtained US citizenship
@7PTCG385yrs5Y
No, only if they have entered the country illegally and committed a violent felony or trafficked cartels of the most lethal drugs.
@8SCSBS64yrs4Y
no, they share the equal rights as local citizens.
@8RBQDDP4yrs4Y
Yes, depending on the case and individual situation
@8LDSN384yrs4Y
they should serve their sentence
@83WFRPW5yrs5Y
No, but they should serve prison.
@8XTW3QC3yrs3Y
Yes, after a trial to determine their guilt or innocence and if guilty is transferred to the prison system in their home country.
@7PTCG384yrs4Y
Yes, if they have entered the country illegally and committed felonies of a violent nature
@7PTCG385yrs5Y
No, only if they have entered the country illegally and committed a violent felony or trafficked cartels of the most lethal drugs
@92T53D93yrs3Y
Yes, but only if they are an ileagal immigrant
@7PTCG384yrs4Y
Yes, if they have entered the country illegally and committed a felony or felonies
