If they are a canadian citizen then no. They should be treated like any other citizen.

 @9FDJCNGfrom Manitoba  answered…2yrs2Y

if their apart of this country they should serve their sentence here same as everyone who lives in canada.

Yes but only for violent crimes, such as sexual assault and first-degree murder.

 @9QRG62WNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…9mos9MO

It depends if they are brought up here as a child, because then cultural differences play a huge role

 @9P8NRFMNew Democratic from Alberta  answered…10mos10MO

If it is safe to do so then maybe. However, deporting an individual because of a serious crime does not necessarily solve or fix an issue. The offender may still continue to commit crimes even after they are deported.

 @9N28RJQNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…11mos11MO

I think it depends on the nature of the crime, does it show that they are using their immigration status to do crime, or is that a part of the crime's circumstance - the fact that they are an immigrant

only when the crime very serious and have a bad impact all over the people.

 @94S2TM7New Democraticfrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but only if they have not been here for a long period of time (e.g. less than 3 years).

 @93SV8HBNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

 @93KS3GSfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but only if they are in Canada illegally or if their citizenship is still pending.

 @93JSCV8from Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

only if its an act of treason or terrorism but if not the they should get a punishment here

 @935T7R9from Quebec  answered…3yrs3Y

I think it depends on how serious the crime is, and if it caused harm to someone intentionally. Even then, they should be tried and sentenced the same as a Canadian citizen would be. In absolute worst case, they should only be deported if it is safe for them to return to their country.

only if they've entered the country illegally and it is safe for them to return to their country

 @8YLYTCGfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

Depends on the crime. "serious crime" is not defined. this could be anything from robbery to aggravated assault.

 @8XMZ93Ffrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

No, they should stay since that place is their home now and you can't just send them away from it

 @8XMZ4R2New Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

If they are an immigrant turned official citizen, than they should go to jail because they committed a crime. But if they are just an immigrant, I think they should still go to jail and go back to their country after the sentence (depending on how serious the crime is).

 @8XDH6LMfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8WLDXSPNew Democraticfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Depending on if the country they are getting deported to could kill them eg; North Korea

 @8WB65YDNew Democraticfrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

they should be treated the same as anyone who has lived here their whole life.

 @8VVD7J5from Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VSDVY2New Democraticfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

If they are a Canadian citizen treat them as one. If they aren’t a Canadian citizen yet and they commit a very serious crime it should potentially be considered apart of their sentence in certain cases

 @8VNWXZ2from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VM9HDDfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VM85YMNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Complicated. They should be tried and punished as all Canadians for first crimes and deported for any serious crime committed after the first?

 @8VLDWFRNew Democraticfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

if they have served their time and can prove innocence they should be fine

 @8VKKSCLNew Democraticfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

I think it depends on how serious the crime is. If it’s a really horrific crime, then yes, I think the person should be deported. If it’s a potentially serious crime, but nothing too dangerous as been enacted, then I think it should be up to the Canadian law to rule out the seriousness of the crime, then decide if deportation is necessary.

 @8VJH6BSfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VHRBFVNew Democraticfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

It depends on what the crime is, and how long they have lived in the country, and if it is safe to deport them.

 @8VHN27ZNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Not if they became a Canadian citizen beforehand. And not if they’re home country is not safe. Deporting people with nothing to go home to is disgusting.

 @8VG7D8QNew Democraticfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VFQPQRNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VF2XNBNew Democraticfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Only depending on the type of crime and if it was intentional. And if it is safe to return to their home country

 @8V8Y5QLNew Democraticfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

If it is safe to enter their own country, but also depending on the crime. People who have committed more severe crimes that pose a larger threat to Canadian safety should be deported, but illegal immigrants should not be.

 @8TZXVB9from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, as long as they are not citizens or permanent residents who have lived in the country for more than five years and only if it is safe for them to return to their country.

 @8TVC9W3New Democraticfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8TQTW27New Democraticfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

No, immigrants who have acquired either Canadian citizenship or permanent residency have the same right to be here as everyone else. However, foreigners without citizenship or permanent residency who are convicted of violent crimes should be deported in some cases.

 @8SYLG33from Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

No, only if they have entered illegal unless it is unsafe to return to their country

 @8SRQFFDNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

No, if they are an official citizen then they receive punishment given by Canadian law

 @8SLS8SLNew Democraticfrom New Brunswick  answered…4yrs4Y

Hugely dependent on crime severity. Violent crimes and assault or endangerment to the public.

 @8SD6CQJfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

I believe that as long as they serve a jail sentence for their crimes, it doesn't matter to me personally whether they serve their time here or their home country.

 @8S2TVT9New Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, only if they are not citizens. Each case determined on its own merit.

 @8RFSDF3from Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

Should be reviewed on a case by case basis based on a number of factors

 @8R3N66Sfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8QWNDQMfrom Newfoundland  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8PS37M5New Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

No, unless it's a violent crime, in which case they should still serve their time here first.

 @8PQSKSGNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

only if they entered the country illegally and if it is safe for them to return to their home country

 @8NQ6PYGNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

No, if they are citizens and have lived in Canada for the majority of their lives they should be incarcerated the same as a Canadian citizen.

 @8K76JSQNew Democraticfrom Quebec  answered…4yrs4Y

Depending on the type of crime. if it is self-defense based, then no. they should not.
If it is a one time offense depending on the gravity of a situation, an assessment and psychological evaluation should be made to ensure that they are not a danger to society. if they are judged dangerous, then yes they should be deported as long as it is safe for them to return to their country. otherwise they should serve their sentence here.

 @8FB86GLNew Democraticfrom Quebec  answered…5yrs5Y

No, if they are a Canadian Citizen, they should be tried in Canada and stay in Canada

 @8CB9YFTNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…5yrs5Y

it depends on where they come from and if they commit a serious crime they should just go to jail

 @9CMSLDJNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

They should be given a second chance and if there is they commit a serious crime again then they should be deported as long as its safe for them to return.

 @9CF8LLSNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

No, because they have a reason for leaving their country and if they committed a serious crime it could also be initiated by citizens who don't want immigrants in their country. So they should serve their sentence and be given a chance to prove themselves worthy of staying in the country

 @9CDDXXJNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9C7LBXWNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

 @99HH6R5New Democraticfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

No, immigrants should be punished according to their crime and not their entry method.

 @99FB88Lfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, as long as it is safe for them to return to their country after they served their sentence and unless they committed serious crimes to harm others/terror to society

 @98YY226from British Columbia  answered…2yrs2Y

 @98TMH36from Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

No, only if they have entered the country illegally and have finished serving their sentence

 @97VT9PRfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

 @93QVB9VNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8VK9L2RNew Democraticfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

No, just serve their sentence for however many years it is. But sometimes the government can be tough because of the racism sometimes and it's mostly the POC, immigrants etc that serve a longer sentence than people who are from that area/country.
