If they are a canadian citizen then no. They should be treated like any other citizen.

 @9F8VWSZfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

If they are citizens of Canada they should be tried as Canadians, if they are not yet they should be deported unless they won't be safe in their home country (ie. they are of an identity that will face persecution, they are personally at risk if they return, or if the punishment for their crime would be inhuman such as torture or the death penalty.)

 @9F233YSfrom British Columbia  answered…2yrs2Y

If they're a citizen then no. If they have t become citizen, yes. If it's safe

 @9VWTLN7from British Columbia  answered…6mos6MO

It depends. It have have become a citizen or PR, or would require a life sentence anyways, then no they should stay. I think it can be considered as grounds to deny PR or citizenship and deport if they would not require a lengthy sentence

 @9LW6VNFfrom Ontario  answered…12mos12MO

Depends. If it was murder through self defence, then it could be argued that they can stay. If they’re committing crimes such as first degree murder/rape, they must go

 @95PS532from Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

 @93W4RZ9Liberalfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

No, they should serve their sentence then go back to living in Canada if they are here legally.

 @93R7PYSfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

It depends on the crime, and only if it is safe to return to their country

Depending on if the country they are getting deported to could kill them eg; North Korea

 @8WJR7CWfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

no, they should be allowed to receive the same punishment as everyone else

 @8VP789Hfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VLSTJTfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

I think they should do there time in Canada and then be returned to their original country only if it is safe

 @8VLLX6Hfrom Quebec  answered…4yrs4Y

Depends on the crime. They are too strict on small offences. Onle crimes of a sexual or violent nature should be deported

If it is safe to enter their own country, but also depending on the crime. People who have committed more severe crimes that pose a larger threat to Canadian safety should be deported, but illegal immigrants should not be.

 @8TXDL2Kfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Only if they’re not permanent residents or citizens. And it really depends on how big the crime is.

 @8TWF8KQConservativefrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8TK67HKLiberalfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8T7KWBWfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Depending on the severity of the crime, and how said crime poses a threat to society if that type of behaviour continues, then yes

 @8SYLG33from Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

No, only if they have entered illegal unless it is unsafe to return to their country

 @8SRQFFDNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

No, if they are an official citizen then they receive punishment given by Canadian law

 @8SLS8SLNew Democraticfrom New Brunswick  answered…4yrs4Y

Hugely dependent on crime severity. Violent crimes and assault or endangerment to the public.

 @8SGDSH4from Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

I think it depends on severity of the crime, time served, and whether or not there has been genuine human rehabilitation.

 @8SD6CQJfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

I believe that as long as they serve a jail sentence for their crimes, it doesn't matter to me personally whether they serve their time here or their home country.

 @8SD43Z6from Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8S4QF4Wfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

If they are a legal citizen of the country, they should serve their jail sentence within the country.

 @8R68FBSfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

they should serve their time in our country and eventually be released back into our country

 @8R5BZB5from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, if they have not been granted citizenship, then they should be deported and not imprisoned on taxpayers dime.

 @8R47HNCfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, if the crime is sever and the individual could be a greater threat to Canadian society

 @8QRWMGYfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8QR7G7Vfrom Northwest Territories  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, depending on the severity. First degree murder and rape should be reason to send immigrants back to their original country as long as its safe to return, if its murder done in protection for themselves i believe they should have the right to stay in Canada

 @8PZDRSHfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8PRFKBJfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8PKXNF4from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

No, only if they themselves entered the country illegally, if they son/daughter were to commit a crime not knowing of their background, they shouldn't be deported, rather penalized.

 @8PKCWBBfrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8PJH3JNfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Depends on the severity of the crime if it’s murder yes if it’s arson maybe if it’s involuntary manslaughter then no

 @8PJFZL3from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8P9DDJMfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Only if they are not citizens or they pose a serious risk to Canada and their home country is safe

depends on the severity of the crime, how long they've been in canada and how safe it is for them to return

 @niorunfrom British Columbia  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8F4Y968from British Columbia  answered…5yrs5Y

yes only if that is an intentional and meditated crime as in stealing or murdering. Not traffic violations

 @9CMGP4Tfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

If the act is directly done in the hope of seriously damaging the country, yes. If not, they serve time like all Canadians.

 @9C7LBXWNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9C2JMT9from Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

Immigrants are committing serious crimes enough for this to even be a question

 @9863HW4from Manitoba  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9746RJRfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

No, they should be treated the same as a Canadian Citizen who has committed a serious crime.

 @8WZ6S2Xfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

If they are failed to be rehabilitated and commit again they should go back

 @8VLQDD2from Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

only if it is a violent crime and if we can ensure proper punishment (i.e. jailtime) at their country of origin.

 @8KSPPR9from Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, if it’s safe for them to return to their country and they entered Canada illegally

 @8JRM9DFfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

No. I think violent crimes are a result of desperation, lack of resources, and being shut down in a system. I think we should have more programming to support success among new Canadians. If they commit a violent crime, provide the support they need. Don't tear apart families. If it's a refugee, be compassionate -- they clearly left for a reason. Don't send them back to a dangerous place.
