Every citizen should be required to live and work in a third-world country for at least one year

 @4QXVML3from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @9FJSRV9from Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

No, but one year of mandatory public/community service (paid above the living wage marker) would be beneficial for all citizens

 @9DSJG32from Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9RBPYTRLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…9mos9MO

Yes, but there should be options for civil service/community involvement for those with objections to violence.

 @9ZS5835from Ontario  answered…5mos5MO

Yes, but without the possibility of forced deployment. It should be as a means of preparing youth for the next stage of life and to provide a government funded year of education transferrable to post secondary credits and to recruit those interested to the military.

 @9ZNW7W5from Ontario  answered…5mos5MO

Service should be a choice not an obligation but everyone should know the basics of how to survive and fend for themselves.

 @9ZLDVNLfrom Ontario  answered…5mos5MO

It depends on the situation. If we are at the brink of war (not that likely), we will mandate people 25 and over to participate.

 @9WQY7BPCommunistfrom Ontario  answered…6mos6MO

No, but create a national volunteer corps and require every 18 year old citizen to perform one year of socially beneficial work

 @9RDCYWPfrom Ontario  answered…9mos9MO

Establish a civilian service with divisions for environment, engineering, agriculture, emergency services.

 @9NW5MPLfrom Ontario  answered…10mos10MO

We are not prepared for conflict We need a national guard type system And expansion on our current supplemental reserves

Criminals who have criminal records should only choose by their choice as well as civilians if they want to join the army, the government will not force them by the laws of the knight order.

 @95RQL6Nfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes I think that it should be a requirement for all Canadian's at the age of 18

Nobody should be forced to provide any military services, or any services for that matter, unless it is their choice to do so!

 @8WVS6N8from Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8QBH4JXfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Should be required for those not pursuing education, training or working beyond secondary school. Or for those on social assistance unable to find a job elsewhere.

 @8PY8RX6Greenfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but only if they are able. People with mental health issues, purse further education or employment shouldn't have to.

 @8K7K73Lfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Only if there is a great chance of a serious war involving the country.

 @8HPSK5WNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

No, forced military involvement should only be used for extreme cases like a third world war or something similar

 @9BRDHPCfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

I don't think it's necessary but at the same time it would be nice to be trained in case anything happens to our country...I'm not really sure about this one.

 @97WPXL8from Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

Military Service should be semi mandatory. If by the age of 27 you are not earning above 50K, i believe you should at-least try military, if not you should handle your life.

 @96G3ZZLfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

 @8VFQC7YCommunistfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

I think it should be a choice, but it would be nice to see it more encourage. This applies to every aspect of the military too.

 @8V7LPJXfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

4 years. That is the length of 1 contract. With numerous benefits after release

 @8V6CPT2from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

There should be a universal requirement for service of at least one year, and up to 2 years. This service should not be limited to the military but include other options, such as working in care homes or education.

 @Canadian1from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8V2CPTGfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

No, service should be a choice, but if people are drafted, both men and women should be part of the draft

 @8TZXVB9from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

As a Swiss citizen I support the idea of militia military which requires adult citizens to serve in the military. I believe that it would be a good idea to have a similar system so long as those who have not volunteered are only used as reserves and not sent on missions outside of the country.

 @8TJ6XJJfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Students should be taught about everything regarding military service in schools.

Canada should adopt the Swiss model, both in terms of training and firearm possession. This would help curtail current firearms issues and would help cut military spending as the need for a professional standing army would be greatly reduced.

 @8R23V35from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

one year of public service, don't confine to military but military an option

 @9CBKZDDfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, but it should be any public service and they should receive free post-secondary education thereafter

 @99CZMZXfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, but only those that are mentally adequate or mentally inadequate and willing

 @8T55ZT5from Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

It should be encouraged with more advertising. Schools should be able to promote it more.

 @8HC8S59from Ontario  answered…5yrs5Y

Welcome to the Middle-East. You see? you get all the "good" things from other countries, but then you want to ban their people from coming here. That's not fair. lol

In peace time, no - service should be a choice. In times of threat of war, etc - Then it may be necessary to draft people into service.
