Three years service to give the Molly coddled youth of today some back bone, discipline, patriotism, moral compass and respect. One year is not enough for today's generation.

time to make men 0ut of our privileged, entitled youth. maybe, just maybe, they would think twice of doing crime. If this were an alternative instead of jail, maybe they could grow to be productive citizens in society. please consider productive discipline for those who are lost in society. jail is an invitation to free housing, meals, health care, education and God knows what other privileges. our veterans get what? shameful how the treatment of those who protect our country are forgotten. got this in reverse folks. shouldn't have to have this pointed out if you're doing your job right.

Immigrants should be serving time up to 3 years in the military to obtain citizenship. Other wise further education and or skilled trade would also be a benefit

Not required, but I would accept military service as an alternate path to earn the right to vote without owning property or having children.

Basic training and skill development with education/apprenticeship support following.

6 months is good enough and it shouldn't be consecutive. Let people do 3 months at a time, put them through BMQ and SQ and then let them pick a military trade that interests them for their final 3 months. This effectively gets every single Canadian the same training as the Reserves. Let them stay in the CAF after their 6 months if they want too. This will also boost our military, combat is voluntary for Reserve forces anyways unless war breaks out.

i mean if the person is comfortable with going to the military the person can go. as long as the person is not forced.

Service should be provided as an alternative way to pay off student debts, but tightly controlled for which degrees match.

 @9W9DFQ3Conservativefrom Alberta  answered…6mos6MO

The military should be advertising more so young people see it as a positive option leading to potential career paths within the service and the civilian world..

 @9MKYHZ7from Alberta  answered…11mos11MO

No, but I think the draft for total war situations in which our nations survival is at stake should be reinstated

A high school diploma should be a legal requirement. Upon graduating, men and women should be required to complete a 1-2 year civil service. The form of service should be determined based on skills an psychometric tests, a series of interviews, and the person’s preferences. It may be military service for some and other work for others. The end of the service should assist participants in making plans to study or work in a specific area. Post secondary studies should be free if you maintain specific grades.

No as the military has shown to be used for endeavours of the owning class exclusively.sending thousands of young men to die for oil and minerals

 @8VL37XSfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VK79L2from Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes. But not for those that pursue post secondary education. And trades should be taught to those who join

 @8RWBJNQfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

I would make it so that anyone that isn't going to a useful University course to Canada, they would do 3 years of service. The useful degrees would be in Medicine, Education, Law, and very few others. The people in the service would do mostly infrastructure work.

 @9CM6JT8from Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

Unless you have enrolled in post secondary school college / university or joining or taking over the family business then yes. But I think it should be the standard 3 to 5 years for and new soldier joining the military and not only one year.

Potentially, but not necessarily just the military, consider first responders such as paramedics, police and fire services

 @8V76GNDNew Democraticfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Military service should be a choice. A stronger emphasis on education and skill development would make military service more attractive and available to a broader range of applicants. Also clean up sexual misconduct and abuse to make military service safe for women, LGBTQ, and men who are vulnerable to sexual exploitation and abuse from abusers in positions of power and authority.

 @8V5QT49from Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

One to two years of civil service that is not in the military specifically aimed at teaching youth and young adults how society operates (e.g.: the implementation and maintenance of critical infrastructure)

 @8QMYYKSfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8CS7JYBfrom Alberta  answered…5yrs5Y

yes, for those who are starting to build a criminal record, and those that do not pursue education or employment, and with a focus on education and skill development; whereas those that join the military for a career could pursue the typical military training, programs, and service overseas.

 @9C656B3from Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

Highly encouraged but not required. But I know a few fat bodies, So maybe opt for other Public services.
