To start, Canada has been below our promised 2% of our GDP on military spending with NATO for years now, much to international criticism, so we should be meeting that as the bare minimum. But for us personally as a country, I believe that even that percentage is not enough. Canada has the longest coastline in the world, and it just so happens that we also sit right across from our number one biggest threat, a threat that patrols our north regularly with no consequence as we just sit and watch. Our navy is severely lacking, and pitiful. By far the number one most important thing we need to do… Read more

In an increasingly volatile international world, Canada cannot fulfill its current nato obligations, and doesn’t not have the means to ensure its interests internationally. With the Arctic ice melting we need a strong navy to defend our water and a greater military presence over all in the north to protect our sovereignty as this will become an increasingly high traffic area with smuggling operations and potential threats posed by Russia and China.

Investment in our military is important because you need to keep military equipment up to date and safe for our military. We need to have a well trained military that can do their jobs well. There is a lot of conflict in the world right now and we border Russia in the Arctic. We need to make sure our military is ready to defend our country and our sovereignty.

If we decrease military spending then the possibility of getting kicked out of NATO is larger than it is now as we are currently only spending 0.02% of our GDP on military when we are required to spend a minimum of 2%.

I don’t care about the military. Most of us aren’t military. We can’t even live in our own country because it’s too expensive.
@9ZSCHCX4mos4MO
canada used to be the 4th largest military now its pathetic and we really need to increase military spending.
@9H4Y24R1yr1Y
If a war breaks out America has proven they won't defend us. That is why if we get attacked we should increase spending
@9H24J24Conservative1yr1Y
no matter how pacifist you are or how peaceful you are sometime in history someone will want to start a war with you and you need to be ready to protect yourself and your nation cause you think it wont happen to you but someday it will
@9GYC866Conservative1yr1Y
In the modern age countries all around the world are arming there militaries and we would be very weak if we didn't but it would also let us buy equipment for are already under equipped military
@B395Z3R1mo1MO
In a world of war and violence, our country is not prepared for war as we see it. Canada's military is not in shape to fight a war at all. Increasing the spending will help us shape our military in case of an invasion.
@9FTVSMR2yrs2Y
The idea is that weapons manufacturing is also like any other business. This means that this business also generated employment and sales like any other business would, peace is important to be maintains and peace may only be achieved if military spendings are done.

The World seems to be going into a cold war state again and with the tarifs trump has made we are more independent then ever and will need to be feared and safe
National defense should be a priority in case of emergencies concerning the government such as natural disasters and conflicts involving other nations.
@9FNK3YQ2yrs2Y
I think that the military does so much for us and our country and the fact that they aren't allowed to spend as much doesn't make sense to me
@9FF5V672yrs2Y
A strong military is crucial for ensuring national security and defense preparedness. In an increasingly complex and interconnected world, nations must be capable of defending themselves against potential threats, both domestic and foreign.
Maintaining or increasing military spending allows a country to modernize its armed forces, invest in advanced technology, and ensure its military readiness to respond effectively to various security challenges.
@B2YJZ2B2mos2MO
Especially in a time right now, with threats coming from Donald J. Trump, decreasing our military is not a good idea. It makes us look like we rely on the USA for a lot, making us look weaker to them.
@9FS69582yrs2Y
We live in a world that is heating up very fast in all corners of the globe. War with Ukraine, terrorism, and the future stability. We need to have a battle ready military.
@9FQ5KS82yrs2Y
We should not rely on the US to ensure our national security. It is to our mutual benefit that we appropriately share those costs with the US
@9FNLBC82yrs2Y
Why would we want to decrease military spending if some country wants to attack us and then we spend all the tax money on military grade weapons.
@97XTGWR2yrs2Y
If we decrease military spending we can all be a big happy family
@B45CYV42wks2W
A country so with rich with resources that hasnt accessed a fraction of them due to different relationships must be defended from foreign bad actoes that would harvest them all regardless of any relationships or opinions.
@9FWTCK91yr1Y
If we were to decrease military spending it would have a major impact on the way we help out around the world. Wether it be for wars, or natural disasters. If you drop the spending cost on the military we won’t be able to do what we’re obligated to do.
@9FVXSYT2yrs2Y
Our military is already small enough in terms of man power. By decreasing military spending, you just make it harder for our military to run in the future
@9FW58PB1yr1Y
the military is the only group to keep all of Canada safe from terrorists, invasions and any other large issue in our continent.
@B4F5J94 2 days2D
With how the current army thecnology is, it is really important to keep up with armies around the world to protect ourselfs from invaders or terroists
