To start, Canada has been below our promised 2% of our GDP on military spending with NATO for years now, much to international criticism, so we should be meeting that as the bare minimum. But for us personally as a country, I believe that even that percentage is not enough. Canada has the longest coastline in the world, and it just so happens that we also sit right across from our number one biggest threat, a threat that patrols our north regularly with no consequence as we just sit and watch. Our navy is severely lacking, and pitiful. By far the number one most important thing we need to do… Read more

In an increasingly volatile international world, Canada cannot fulfill its current nato obligations, and doesn’t not have the means to ensure its interests internationally. With the Arctic ice melting we need a strong navy to defend our water and a greater military presence over all in the north to protect our sovereignty as this will become an increasingly high traffic area with smuggling operations and potential threats posed by Russia and China.
@9GGTKKR1yr1Y
Our military is already really small and week so I think we need to increase the spending on our military,
@9GDR7491yr1Y
Investment in our military is important because you need to keep military equipment up to date and safe for our military. We need to have a well trained military that can do their jobs well. There is a lot of conflict in the world right now and we border Russia in the Arctic. We need to make sure our military is ready to defend our country and our sovereignty.
@B43W7YD2wks2W
More money could be spent on industries and services that support its citizens. More money could help farmers keep their prices low; more money could be subsidized for housing and support for low-income families
@B42QTT6Conservative2wks2W
If we decrease military spending then the possibility of getting kicked out of NATO is larger than it is now as we are currently only spending 0.02% of our GDP on military when we are required to spend a minimum of 2%.
@B2TQHVMBloc Québécois2mos2MO
Our country relies on heavy military protection from the States. Unpredictable events may happen and the States may turn against us and eliminate the protection, hence why we need our own military.
@B2QGGXM2mos2MO
I don’t care about the military. Most of us aren’t military. We can’t even live in our own country because it’s too expensive.
@B2H5NR23mos3MO
My biggest argument against this is that we need to boost military spending in order to defend against attacks from Russia and China, we need a more balanced power structure in North America in order to defend ourselves against possible threats from the Trump administration, and to defend our country against aggressors that may want to come after our natural resources in the future.
@B239LHY4mos4MO
We should increase. Our current Trudeau government has turned us into one of the weakest militaries.
@9ZSCHCX4mos4MO
canada used to be the 4th largest military now its pathetic and we really need to increase military spending.

And increase in defence spending could help us in our relations with the NATO member nation, promote Canadian national unity and enable us to not rely on the help of other nations, such as the United States, when the use of force is the only and last option in an international situation or when thé country needs to be defended.
@9H4Y24R1yr1Y
If a war breaks out America has proven they won't defend us. That is why if we get attacked we should increase spending
@9H24J24Conservative1yr1Y
no matter how pacifist you are or how peaceful you are sometime in history someone will want to start a war with you and you need to be ready to protect yourself and your nation cause you think it wont happen to you but someday it will

In the modern age countries all around the world are arming there militaries and we would be very weak if we didn't but it would also let us buy equipment for are already under equipped military

In a world of war and violence, our country is not prepared for war as we see it. Canada's military is not in shape to fight a war at all. Increasing the spending will help us shape our military in case of an invasion.
@9GLF9GV1yr1Y
Decrease the amount we spend on hi-tech equipment and allow for the use of that to train our troops with machinery they can use regardless of black outs and reboots
@9FTVSMR2yrs2Y
The idea is that weapons manufacturing is also like any other business. This means that this business also generated employment and sales like any other business would, peace is important to be maintains and peace may only be achieved if military spendings are done.
@B3DHB7S1mo1MO
The World seems to be going into a cold war state again and with the tarifs trump has made we are more independent then ever and will need to be feared and safe
National defense should be a priority in case of emergencies concerning the government such as natural disasters and conflicts involving other nations.
@9FNK3YQ2yrs2Y
I think that the military does so much for us and our country and the fact that they aren't allowed to spend as much doesn't make sense to me
@9FF5V672yrs2Y
A strong military is crucial for ensuring national security and defense preparedness. In an increasingly complex and interconnected world, nations must be capable of defending themselves against potential threats, both domestic and foreign.
Maintaining or increasing military spending allows a country to modernize its armed forces, invest in advanced technology, and ensure its military readiness to respond effectively to various security challenges.
@B3D7NB41mo1MO
military is always important when it comes to our security, we have no where close to the amount of vehicles/weaponry that some of these other countrys have and i feel like that is a big scare factor or the fact that we are lowering our standards to get 13000 more people, canada needs to be ready for whatever will come and as of right now we are not ready. people dont want to increase funding until a war break out.
@B2YJZ2B2mos2MO
Especially in a time right now, with threats coming from Donald J. Trump, decreasing our military is not a good idea. It makes us look like we rely on the USA for a lot, making us look weaker to them.
@9FS69582yrs2Y
We live in a world that is heating up very fast in all corners of the globe. War with Ukraine, terrorism, and the future stability. We need to have a battle ready military.
@9FQ5KS82yrs2Y
We should not rely on the US to ensure our national security. It is to our mutual benefit that we appropriately share those costs with the US
@9FNLBC82yrs2Y
Why would we want to decrease military spending if some country wants to attack us and then we spend all the tax money on military grade weapons.
@97XTGWR2yrs2Y
If we decrease military spending we can all be a big happy family
@B47HHJ4 1wk1W
I think reducing our military spending has put our nation in a precarious position. One that has allowed Trump to threaten our sovereignty. Just because there's nothing above us on a map doesn't mean that we can't be invaded. It's understandable that America has grown frustrated with the Canadian government as they seem to have the belief that they can rely on America for defense. The best way to defend our northern sovereignty is with strength. To be strong you need military, otherwise you're all bark and no bite.
@B45CYV42wks2W
A country so with rich with resources that hasnt accessed a fraction of them due to different relationships must be defended from foreign bad actoes that would harvest them all regardless of any relationships or opinions.
@B32GQTD 2mos2MO
We need more power and we don’t want to need to rely on the United States for security especially in times as of right now
How many current soldiers are without a home to live in? These people have dedicated their only life that they have to protect this country. The LEAST we can do is provide them with a home to live in.
@9FWTCK91yr1Y
If we were to decrease military spending it would have a major impact on the way we help out around the world. Wether it be for wars, or natural disasters. If you drop the spending cost on the military we won’t be able to do what we’re obligated to do.
@9GBD2J61yr1Y
one day, the US will get a presedent who decides to take canada over, canada is completeley helpless withouut the US, and the US will most likeley betray us and steal our resorces and land and we wont be able to stop them. soldiers cant fight against nukes and other advandced weponry the US has
@9FVXSYT1yr1Y
Our military is already small enough in terms of man power. By decreasing military spending, you just make it harder for our military to run in the future
@9FVKGCV2yrs2Y
The current geopolitical climate should be of concern for most, if not all, countries. Agressive and rogue states are a threat to the democratic process and human rights that should not be taken lightly, and
@9GG3S6J1yr1Y
Canada does not have the military capacity to protect its waters, due to the long history of piggy-backing off the United States
@9FW58PB1yr1Y
the military is the only group to keep all of Canada safe from terrorists, invasions and any other large issue in our continent.
@9GJZ6PY1yr1Y
We have Canadians from War torn areas that rely on Canada's involvement for their families back in their home country.
@B4F5J94 1 day1D
With how the current army thecnology is, it is really important to keep up with armies around the world to protect ourselfs from invaders or terroists
