Should major public events include land acknowledgment statements?
No, because they are just rote words. Very few people actually feel meaning in them. Acknowledgement should be more concrete, not just lip service.

Yes, provided a review of the crime. If it was premediated as a way to get out of an abusive relationship, then the person is very unlikely to reoffend.
