Instead of subsidizing homebuyers, we should focus on building more homes and directing those funds to support community infrastructure. Currently, much of this infrastructure is financed by developers through development cost charges. Government fees and levies account for over 30% of the cost to build a condo—and since these costs are passed on to buyers along with a profit margin, they contribute directly to higher home prices.
