The issue with the incentives would be the extra money coming into the housing markets because Canada has a supply issue. Adding more money into this does not help affordability.

No. Live where you can afford to live. You can move anywhere you want in this country, some places are nicer than other so they are more expensive. You can't demand to live in the best spots of the country and then complain its too expensive. I could afford to buy a home in a small town so that's what I did, then I worked my way to buying a better home and then on my third home I moved to the city I wanted to be in, once I could afford it.

The free market will have to come up with cheaper alternatives, and people might not get a 1800 square foot home on the first go.
@B35CY3X 1mo1MO
Government shouldn't have any involvement in this, I want the government to be as small as possible.
@B2QQFP82mos2MO
Home Buyer's Incentive without the proper supply is only going to incentivize the further increase in housing prices.
@9RCBGNV9mos9MO
we should not be subsidizing demand for home buyers. house prices are expensive because of a lack of supply, and giving people money to buy homes will only raise prices.
@9LVCFCF11mos11MO
If you can’t afford to buy a home why should the government give you money for said home? Giving unreliable people loans is what caused banks to go under in 2008 so imagine if that happened to the government. This money is also needed in so many other places like improving our healthcare system and education system as well as paying national debt and upgrading and maintaining our aging infrastructure.

This will artificially inflate the house costs making subsidy practically useless. Also, it will allow people to by houses which are out of their budget which will eventually lead them to pay higher mortgage payments and overall cut spending on other commodities leading economy to recession.

More government bureaucracy and red tape will not address the issue of supply of housing while increasing demand, driving up prices in an endless cycle. Home buyer incentives will increase demand for housing not increase housing supply.
@9FJVZMX2yrs2Y
The First-Time Home Buyer Incentive helps people across Canada purchase their first home. The program offers 5 or 10% of the home's purchase price to put toward a down payment. This addition to your down payment lowers your mortgage carrying costs, making homeownership more affordable.
@9GDQK9F1yr1Y
it will just drive home prices up further as funding and demand is instantly injected into the market
@9G6HQ82Conservative1yr1Y
it will just drive home prices up further as funding and demand is instantly injected into the market. This will just set the home price higher and kick the can down the road.
Anything the government subsidizes is done by impoverishing the population through taxes and fees. Someone shouldn't be given money to pay for something that is sold too high.
