Jagmeet Singh, leader of the NPD party, proposes forgiving up to $20,000 of student loan debt and doubling student grants, as well as giving new graduates a five-year grace period for federal loan payments. This is based on the fact that, according to studies, in recent years, numerous students have been unable to repay their academic loans.

It should allow up to $50,000 to be forgiven, and universities should be forced to lower tuition by 35%.
@9GDR6QQ1yr1Y
Yes, but the student would need to give back in some form (this may include working in Canada for a number of years reciprocate the money payed off)
@9H9B77J1yr1Y
yes, but I believe they should not raise a taxt to this, they should also lower student loans and the prices to get into the school.
@9FKML6F2yrs2Y

Student loans are a scam

Every student in debt should have SOME opportunity to recoup some losses. If we can find enough in the budget for a lump sum, great. If not, students should still be able to contact someone and get some other kind of relief: receiving textbooks in high-demand fields, a set-time living somewhere rent-free, food/bills/amenities, some tuition relief for a career change.
This would only apply to each student once, maybe twice depending on circumstances, to prevent another potential drain on funds by parasitic citizens or students with little-to-no drive or plans.

Make post secondary school more affordable
@8X4C75H3yrs3Y
It depends if the student actually has tried to study or at least earned something from studying that can help them with the job they want. Also, if they’re at least trying to pay back the debt
@8WYKKFL3yrs3Y
yes but not that much money only like 12 thousand
@8WYK5KY3yrs3Y
There should be a hearing and see if the student can be fit to have the debt relieved.
@8WCM3L7Conservative4yrs4Y

@8VQV6TG4yrs4Y
Yes, and an effort to make post secondary education free should be started.
@8VP33XV4yrs4Y
Post secondary education should be "free"

@8VNXGCD4yrs4Y

@8VNWVPXConservative4yrs4Y
It depends on what they were doing while they weren't making any money.
@8VNJ8B84yrs4Y
Yes, but only if the student has grades above 75%, and a clean record
@8VMPLDC4yrs4Y
It would be a great idea if Canada had a surplus of revenue.

There should be better options, so more people have opportunities. People should not be stripped of their education due to money problems.
@8VJCD534yrs4Y
No, but tuition should be capped and texts/required literature for classes/courses should be more affordable.
@99WWK9Q2yrs2Y
