The current benefits do not provide enough support, nor the right kind of support. Yes, people need money to live, and a basic income would help with that, but there needs to be more support systems in place to assist those who most in need. Increase social services overall, pay for it by abolishing tax loopholes. An economy can only thrive if the people who contribute to it are alive, and well, and able to contribute. And those who unfortunately can't work because of their circumstance need more compassion from their peers, and their government officials.
