I believe new agency could potentially be added, you might call it the Canadian Emergency Worker Education Bureau or something of those that would be in charge of allocating funds and setting a curriculum for all emergency workers such as police officers, firefighters, EMT workers so that the education might be of a higher quality and standardized nation wide. Their jurisdiction would be handling trainees. Once the individual has graduated they leave the CWEB and enter their preferred field. This would allow us to take some money from current services and make sure the funds are used for training and education specifically.

 @B3NC4B2 from Saskatchewan  answered…1mo1MO

No, redirect current investments into a better screening and application process for students, mandatory therapy and mental health sessions VERY FREQUENT, and more focus on ethical and behavioural training.

 @B3FD2RLfrom Saskatchewan  answered…2mos2MO

Yes, there has been a shift of funding from health, mental health, social services while policing funding has increased. Partnerships between these services needs to increase and appropriate personnel should deal with the issues. Police need to be mental health first responders

 @B39CH5XGreenfrom Saskatchewan  answered…2mos2MO

Not necessarily. Community based organizations should be better funded and cooperative programs be a part of all police and community based interactions. They can do more together than apart.

 @B2FZNTHConservativefrom Saskatchewan  answered…3mos3MO

We should find additional funding for Social and Community based programs, without taking away funding from the police.

 @9V9R57Lfrom Saskatchewan  answered…7mos7MO

No, but money going into the police department should be used to promote equality under the law, via trainings ect.

 @9HCN389from Saskatchewan  answered…1yr1Y

Need to increase funding and build up those other services BEFORE some of that funding can be shifted

 @9H9B77Jfrom Saskatchewan  answered…1yr1Y

The police are important and so are the people/ communites so id say split it and/ or focus on whatever is this most pressing matter at the moment.

 @9H6DQCPNew Democraticfrom Saskatchewan  answered…1yr1Y

I believe some funds should be redirected towards local social programs but I understand and value the importance of police as well as Community based programs.

 @9GB6L47from Saskatchewan  answered…1yr1Y

Funding should be used in conjunction with social and community based programs, to bring a better connection and understanding between the police and the community it protects.

 @9G478CTfrom Saskatchewan  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, but have it go to funding training for ways to handle people with mental illness for all police officers

 @9D9X5RCfrom Saskatchewan  answered…2yrs2Y

No, mandate social education for police officers to help deal with high stress situations and people's with mental health issues

 @9BP4PYBNew Democraticfrom Saskatchewan  answered…2yrs2Y

Obviously decrease police funds but also rework the entirety of the police system. It heavily criminalizes people of colour and there should be harsher punishments when cops break the law.

 @9BP4MBYfrom Saskatchewan  answered…2yrs2Y

I believe that police should not judge people of couloir to quick and should not think they are better then others

 @99SZ7FSfrom Saskatchewan  answered…2yrs2Y

i think that these fund could maybe be reduced less but can be put toward better things

 @966ZSZDfrom Saskatchewan  answered…3yrs3Y

More funding should be spent on training/ policing and social programs that provide disadvantaged youth/people with real opportunity

 @964J9HQNew Democraticfrom Saskatchewan  answered…3yrs3Y

 @95WSYH7from Saskatchewan  answered…3yrs3Y

Increase funding for those areas that professionals would be more effective. Then after a trial period reduce any targeted funding the police departments may have been receiving to provide those services.

 @9438Y3Yfrom Saskatchewan  answered…3yrs3Y

 @93W899Gfrom Saskatchewan  answered…3yrs3Y

Becoming a police officer should require better schooling. Minimum of 2 years

 @932MRKFfrom Saskatchewan  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8Z6P9KQfrom Saskatchewan  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes/maybe, for local police. If citizens want a police force they can trust, they should also be the ones funding that police force.

RCMP and crown/privatized security, no. RCMP I believe are loyal to the crown/government, and private security is usually just for profit.

 @8Z3Q3R6from Saskatchewan  answered…3yrs3Y

I feel both ways, because we need more police because they are a very important part in keeping us safe. But I also think that we need therapists too.

 @8YXSH9Pfrom Saskatchewan  answered…3yrs3Y

Provide strict training, psychological testing to all police personnel, have 1 group (between 3-6) unarmed community based responders with 1 armed police responder for non violent calls. In higher crime rate communities triple the amount of armed police responders with at least 1 officer with de-escalation training

 @8YV757Xfrom Saskatchewan  answered…3yrs3Y

yes, we should make police training better so that police brutality is less of an issue, because right now we have to deal with way to much violence from the people who are supposed to be protecting us.

 @8YJ7Z5Rfrom Saskatchewan  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, some funding should be redirected to social and community based programs, but not all of it

 @8X4C75Hfrom Saskatchewan  answered…3yrs3Y

I think that both the local police department and social and community based programs should be funded

 @8VSRSX2from Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

Keep funding for police but add funding for community and social based programs. Or maybe redirect some of the funding but not all.

 @8VSM9QRfrom Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

Some funding directed to social partnerships a d me tal.health support.

 @8VQV6TGfrom Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, via data analytics. Any social program that reduces crime rates more than policing should be funded.

 @8VQSKNRfrom Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

Police are important, take a small amount and from areas like our healthcare budget to focus on lowering corruption and mental health issues.

 @8VQ5SHBfrom Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

small police stations for small towns should be social and community based

 @8VMP2C8from Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

Some funding should be directed to social and community as well as higher crime in communites.

 @8VM7DJ5from Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

incress the things for mental health but keep the fundings for police the same

 @8VM72DHConservativefrom Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

It should be half and half. They need their equipment, but also need to have a good relationship with the public.

 @8VLRB84from Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

Not fully redirected, but more money should be going to community, but also still some going to police

 @8VLH6RGfrom Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

I don’t think all funding should be moved to social and community based programs but some should be.

 @8VLGF5Dfrom Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

Should be evenly dispersed between different emergency response teams who are trained for specific scenario's

 @8VL4GDBfrom Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VKNBZTConservativefrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VDKY7WLibertarianfrom Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

police should have access to more training and social workers and addiction counsellors should be on site if needed.

 @8VBSYTWLiberalfrom Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

Still fund police but provide more training as well as new programs. Some issues would be helped with mental health professionals instead of police

 @8V9DGF4from Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

Police need a major overhaul, focus on real crimeans quit extorting hard working canadians for petty infractions

 @8V47SLGfrom Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

No, locate and redistribute unnecessary spending towards additional training with a focus on psychology and human relations.

 @8V45QWTfrom Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

There is a need for additional funding for social and community based programs but that funding should not be taken from local police departments

 @8V3B4XZfrom Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

No the funding should not be redirected from the local police, but rather put into longer training courses and training in more psychology-type courses, as well as an extended psychological briefing on each individual before becoming an official officer. It's clear that some people who become cops are not in the right mindset to approach a situation without immediately judging someone based on the colour of their skin/what they are wearing/how they look. This is the issue with police that needs to be fixed, and I believe that if there are more hoops to jump to become a cop, then the force will start to become people who actually care and want to find the correct solution to every problem they approach because they want justice & to protect the innocent.

 @8TW5NGPfrom Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

It should be reset so that the police and community responders work together

 @8TV88B5New Democraticfrom Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but ensure police presence remains in communities and ensure officers are from the community in which they patrol

 @8TMMNXGLiberalfrom Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8TB4MV9from Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8T8SZZ9from Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

I think it all depends on crime rates in the area. Should a small town with a small population of mostly normal families have high police funding? no. Should big cities with high crime rates have high police funding? Yes.

Funding for the police should be kept the same and social programs should get more funding.

 @8QRYHBNfrom Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8QFTYJBNew Democraticfrom Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

They should keep the funding for the police departments where it is and instead put more money into those social and community-based programs so then once those programs start to become more successful then you can start to reduce funding from the police departments

 @8PYVCL5from Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

No, but funding for mental health and addictions officers should be added to take over in these areas.

 @8PGY5RBNew Democraticfrom Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

Some funding can go there but also just reallocate how the police does its job. More walking around and patrolling streets.

 @9CTX96PNew Democraticfrom Saskatchewan  answered…2yrs2Y

Increase funding for better help for prisoners so when/if they get out they will have better lives

 @9CLKDBXfrom Saskatchewan  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9CLKD8Sfrom Saskatchewan  answered…2yrs2Y

Defund the police. I dont think we should abolish the police force but there needs to be an entire rework of the system. Id rather naot see my brown brothers and sisters dying t the hands of abusive cops.

 @9C8BFJJfrom Saskatchewan  answered…2yrs2Y

No but hire people who have training to deal with mental health and addictions

 @9C5Q8DVfrom Saskatchewan  answered…2yrs2Y

 @99GFQCWfrom Saskatchewan  answered…2yrs2Y

Reallocate part of the funding to community based programs and hold police accountable when they screw up. They are not above the law, the police should be there to uphold law and order, not exploit it like I see way to often.

 @99D79BTfrom Saskatchewan  answered…2yrs2Y

No, increase funding and training and regular testing for the police force to enforce a higher standard of work

 @997JCBXfrom Saskatchewan  answered…2yrs2Y

Keep current funding for police but find funding to increase social programs.

 @98V69NPfrom Saskatchewan  answered…2yrs2Y

The police need to be held accountable for there actions and kept in check rather then find reasons to charge someone but still keep inforcing the law

 @97DJ2H6from Saskatchewan  answered…2yrs2Y

 @97DHBBDConservativefrom Saskatchewan  answered…2yrs2Y

 @95ZXJVJfrom Saskatchewan  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8ZR7SXTfrom Saskatchewan  answered…3yrs3Y

No, require police officers to take a two-year course in social work, mental health and addictions prior to being accepted into the police force.

 @8ZLQG4Zfrom Saskatchewan  answered…3yrs3Y

We shouldn’t fully defund the police but a lot of the funding could instead be put towards community based programs.
