No Just direct the funds you ALREADY HAVE into a LONGER POLIECE COURSE
with EDUCATION and police officers, if for some reason they dont already, should have MANDITORY psychiatric evaluations. ESPICALLY after shooting their fire arm for WHAT EVER REASON. Keep your workers safe and your leaders clean please so we can all be safe please. Ty

I understand you are coming from an extremely empathetic place and this is what most misunderstandings stem from. Police officers are actually treated like criminals after firing their firearms, no matter how justified it is. Once they are relieved from the scene, their gun and badge are taken away and they are suspended under unpaid leave. No, it's not a vacation. During your leave, you will be interviewed multiple times and have to fill out many legal documents. Even for the most justified of shootings, there is still a very long and thorough investigation by IA and the SIU in Ontario, and you are suspended until your trial which can take years.

Yes to some extent but ensuring police receiving enough funding to be able to properly and safely do their jobs

 @B44NPYZfrom Nova Scotia  answered…4wks4W

Social services should be increased, but not necessarily at the expense of police. Social workers should be responding with police to many calls.

 @B327GY2from Nova Scotia  answered…2mos2MO

Get rid of the rcmp and have the provinces make their own police forces with federal subsidies. Create a modest size highly train federal police force to assist all provincial police departments. Create a military police force modelled of France’s National Gendarmerie to combat high crime area. Also rent the forces to countries with high gang and cartel activity for profit

 @B2JBV57New Democraticfrom Nova Scotia  answered…3mos3MO

Training should increase for police and police and social organizations should increase for better preventative supports.

 @9RCRNZKfrom Nova Scotia  answered…9mos9MO

Yes, but the social programs need to work for the areas that they are affecting, this cannot be a one size fits all. The social programs need to be registered and regulated.

 @9RC4JNVfrom Nova Scotia  answered…9mos9MO

Increase the scope of the police force, separate the departments allowing them to specialize for different tasks much like we have emergency response for fire and health we need similar to tackle other problems within the community.

 @9P96VK7from Nova Scotia  answered…10mos10MO

no, but there should be someone aside from police to go to less important calls and more funding should go to social and community based groups.

 @9HLHYFVfrom Nova Scotia  answered…1yr1Y

Preventive measures and houseing/mental health care for people Police for the non preventable crimes

 @9GYSNHDfrom Nova Scotia  answered…1yr1Y

No, funding needs to be based on the area. Funding also needs to be assigned to social and community programs to help reduce crime and in turn lead to reduced spending for the police.

 @99Z3579New Democraticfrom Nova Scotia  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes and No. Police training should be funded more to teach them how to properly handle certain situations as well as programs that involve the community to better the citizens and the police, programs to reduce crime and that tackle the actual problem that causes crime.

 @96JXX4Sfrom Nova Scotia  answered…3yrs3Y

I think it dpends maybe spend more on the community based programms and still give the police the same amount of money

 @959TTR5from Nova Scotia  answered…3yrs3Y

No, increase funding and training for police departments and work with communities to rebuild mutual trust. Police forces remain essential to combat crime, especially in high crime rate communities.

 @93TM7X6from Nova Scotia  answered…3yrs3Y

Regrdless, allocate resources proportionally based off of the conditions of the area where people live.

 @93G3LSPfrom Nova Scotia  answered…3yrs3Y

Police funding should remain healthy while still dispersing a helpful and fair amount of money to social and community-based programs.

 @9284J5Jfrom Nova Scotia  answered…3yrs3Y

 @927VZ7WNew Democraticfrom Nova Scotia  answered…3yrs3Y

more funding for social comunity programs but still some police funding

 @8YFHZQZConservativefrom Nova Scotia  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8XX9M3Ffrom Nova Scotia  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8XW2SFGNew Democraticfrom Nova Scotia  answered…3yrs3Y

funding should be increased to create teams on the force dedicated to mental health and crisis response

 @8XRZK4Jfrom Nova Scotia  answered…3yrs3Y

The first step is to increase funding to social programs, mental health and addictions and restorative programs. When these begin to help the burden law enforcement are facing, budgets can then be looked at to be decreased.

 @8VTV54Dfrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

i think some funding towards the police could go towards more community and social based programs.

 @8VSN69Wfrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VPHZLDfrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

yes the police have lots of funding and other services wont normally have as much

 @8VLF6GFfrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

While I think funding should be put else where I don’t believe they should be abolished

 @8V5WRFTLiberalfrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

A little, but they should not be abolished, but given organizations to work beside

 @8V28JMZNew Democraticfrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

Funding should be available for police to have proper and adequate training as well as providing social and community based programs. There's no reason we can't have both.

 @8TZZ9W5from Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

No more funds should be allocated to allow both to make sure the social workers are protected

 @8TWVCF7from Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

Increase mental health training for police so they do not use weapons to subdue those in distress.

 @8TWTKS9from Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

No and provide police with more training to deal with mental health calls and increase funding to social and community based programs and integrate them along with police to respond to non-violent calls

 @8TVDZYMfrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

yes replace some police with unarmed community based responders for non violent calls whilst increasing provencial police in these areas with a larger funding

 @8TRKXWYfrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

No, increase social and community based program funding, but not at the expense of local police funding.

 @8TQYCQQfrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8TP4TKSfrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8SZ63QVfrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

Partially, delegate areas to community actors while also increasing training within police.

 @8SC7VMHNew Democraticfrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

Do not completely defund the police. Spread out responsibilities among other jobs.

 @8PZ977Tfrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

I think funding should go towards properly educating officers on dealing with certain situations and different people. I also think funding should be put in place to allow community based responders to respond to non violent situations.

 @8PN4Z4MNew Democraticfrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8PKLLMSConservativefrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

Community policing so the police know the people around them, hence lowering the danger involved with being stopped by police

 @8PJVLD2People’sfrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

no however a budget cut should be made and with that cut the money could go to communitys

 @8PJQSZ2from Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

no but there should be a budget cut and that money should be sent to schools and universitys

 @8PB95TZfrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8PB4XDQConservativefrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

We should at least find a way to fund other services without defending them

 @8P5SKFGfrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

The police are a tool. If our governments who control the police are freedom lovers, give the cops all they need. If the governments become tyrants, as they are becoming now as we see with "The Great Reset", take their tools of oppression away. But then, of course, that's when such governments use their tools the most, isn't it?

 @8JSC5ZKfrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

Every society requires a police force, but more social and community based programs need to be given more consideration to help criminals rehabilitate and reduce the prison populations. Some offenders just need the guidance to lead better lives.

 @9BSYMVYfrom Nova Scotia  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, 50% should be directed to social and community based programs and 50% should be directed towards police

 @9BNW3BKfrom Nova Scotia  answered…2yrs2Y

Not completely. I believe that social programs could be very helpful for troubled people, but police are still needed.

 @9BC9VXNfrom Nova Scotia  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, but the social programs should be to prevent future crimes, not training civilians to stop them as they are occurring.

 @9B7SW33from Nova Scotia  answered…2yrs2Y

with a collaborative approach to the whole system. Police should be a part of the whole not our only option in crisis.

 @99JJDKBConservativefrom Nova Scotia  answered…2yrs2Y

No, there needs to be more research done on the effectiveness of these programs before allocating funds to it

 @98YYPHBfrom Nova Scotia  answered…2yrs2Y

Reform the Police to ensure that all officers are sufficently trained to a national standard

 @98878LTfrom Nova Scotia  answered…2yrs2Y

No, policing should pay well so they attract the right people. Positive Community involvement should be a tremendous part of policing also.

 @98848YRfrom Nova Scotia  answered…2yrs2Y

 @987FBPCfrom Nova Scotia  answered…2yrs2Y

Police should receive more extensive training to better serve their communities.

 @97F6C8GLiberalfrom Nova Scotia  answered…2yrs2Y

Instead of buying military-grade weapons and vehicles I believe that the funds of the police should be redirected to better training

 @96WZN6Xfrom Nova Scotia  answered…2yrs2Y

I feel they should redirect some funding to the social and community based programs but not all of it that they abolish the police enough so they can still have money for training and we can have a safe and nice environment for our community to live in.

 @937CLM5Greenfrom Nova Scotia  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but still keep the police as well as the social and community based programs

 @8ZWV2FBLiberalfrom Nova Scotia  answered…3yrs3Y

Keep police but merge social service providers with police force to work as team to provide collaborative approach.

 @8YTNNVVNew Democraticfrom Nova Scotia  answered…3yrs3Y

No, and increase funding and support to social and community based programs

 @8WNHTXHNew Democraticfrom Nova Scotia  answered…3yrs3Y

Not necessarily. However, the police need the ability to serve search warrants when needed and otherwise have additional ability to act/serve. They should be trained in racial, ethnic, social and other community-based issues.

 @8WF3Q3Ffrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VYCZYDfrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

No, there is no prove that adding funding to social programs will help.

 @8TMM8NGNew Democraticfrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

Educate police on race and minorities, especially our native communities more education, less gun violence and murder at the hand of our police.

 @8QJQ8GNfrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

I believe less money should be provided and instead used for a community response team

 @B4QZ5C6from Nova Scotia  answered…20hrs20H

Make police, police. They have to many non police responsibilities. Have tried, non armed people with them for mental health or negotiating.
