Funding needs to be based on the area. Funding also needs to be assigned to social and community programs to help reduce crime and in turn can lead reduced spending foe the police

 @9DKJPVNConservativefrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

No, but make sure that there are more types of professionals who can respond to critical situations without the need for fatal weaponry, but lean towards non-fatal defense tools like tasers & mace.

 @9VVJGFWConservativefrom British Columbia  answered…6mos6MO

We still need the police as is, but we ALSO need much greater social and support programs. Once those are FIRMLY established and crime rate etc reduces naturally we can slowly reduce police forces

 @9T98NNNConservativefrom Ontario  answered…7mos7MO

The police academy is a short program that teaches police how to shoot a gun and other physical things. There should be more emphasis on being educated on how to respond without automatically resorting to violence, and how to help the citizens effectively. They should also test for the mental health of the individual who wants to get into the police academy to make sure they are of sound mind.

 @9STLGWFConservativefrom Alberta  answered…8mos8MO

Both are important ways to enforce the law. Social and community based programs are simply better long term solutions. However, the police should not be underfunded for this purpose.

 @9S3NX6KConservativefrom Ontario  answered…8mos8MO

I think the police still have a place in our society as community enforcement however we do need more social supports

 @9RHHX54Conservativefrom Ontario  answered…9mos9MO

Yes and no, funding should be spread as needed for the police officers themselves and then the people community and social programs

 @9PDK76PConservativefrom Ontario  answered…10mos10MO

No, Evaluating the current funding allocations, exploring ways to enhance community-oriented policing and collaborating with stakeholders to find solutions that promote both safety and social equity

 @9K4LLL8Conservativefrom Alberta  answered…1yr1Y

not all but some of the funding should go to social and community programs to understand safety and rights protection.

 @9JDMRFRConservativefrom Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

No, increase funding and training for police departments to be better equipped to deal with difficult calls ie. mental health issues, sex crimes etc...

 @9HHTQD6Conservativefrom Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

Slower transition to community support so crime is reduced. As crime rates are lowered, then replace policing with more enriching community well being programs.

 @9G6V25Rfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

Make police funding less by decrease money and the tax on the money, in local police departments that is. And the poorer higher crime rate community's should have more training and funding

 @9FW5VSFanswered…2yrs2Y

Both, new programs for criminals and drug addicts for rehab should be established but police budget should remain

 @9FSXQWPConservativefrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

increase funding and training for police but also put a lot of funding into social and community based programs

 @9FR2W9PConservativefrom Connecticut  answered…2yrs2Y

Police funding should be a combination of funding regular police activities as well as funding social and community based programs.

 @9FPW8LSConservativefrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

fund the police more and increase training but also put in social/community based programs in high crime areas

 @9FF93ZPfrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

I feel like this is an area thing again. Places like Marlborough or Forest Lawn/Heights should get a more trained and faster responding police force, whereas safer communities don't need it as much.

 @8PJDYXKConservativefrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

I'm in the middle on this one because community programs are good but also having a good police force is good as well.

 @96KSTFXConservativefrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

If it didn’t affect police training or their ability to improve and protect the community.

 @96JZXNCConservativefrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

Well yes and no. As we need our police propally trained and go through an arrange of political tests to make sure they will be a protector to our community not an agitator in some cases. I also say no as we need more funding for certain schools to help kids learn what a community should look like in a good enviorment instead of ones that have confrontation everywhere. On the news as well as personal event in ones case.

 @964SF29Conservativefrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

 @95VB5JDConservativefrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

work with other emergency responders together and retrain law enforcement.

 @95HYWG6Conservativefrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

No, funding should be given to both police departments and community based programs.

 @95CVJ66Conservativefrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, I believe that we should reduce 20% of the police force's budget and redirect it to helping young people before they become criminals.

 @956JQQ3Conservativefrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

Leave Funding as it is but change how the police system works and how they are trained.

 @938GZQVConservativefrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8ZX3GXZConservativefrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

No, issues with police are due to inadequate funding. Increase police funding

 @8ZV8J2Tfrom Newfoundland  answered…3yrs3Y

There should be money for the local police departments but also should put money in community based programs.

 @8ZHHTXVfrom Manitoba  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8Z8QBTTfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8YY8CVNConservativefrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

i feel that we should retrain them and get better training programs for them

 @8YX8XVZConservativefrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

I believe that the police still need funding in order to protect the people but the funding for social and community programs should be increased.

 @8YWGQBYConservativefrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

Increase funding for both social/community programs and police. Both are necessary.

 @8YFHZQZConservativefrom Nova Scotia  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8Y9JCC6Conservativefrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

I think the funding for all should be weighed but that police departments need better training and oversight over their "employees" as all jobs have bad apples. its just having bad apples in the police department is REALLY not good.

 @8XNB9Y3Conservativefrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8W8BSH6Conservativefrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Part community funding. Less police with less protections from wrong doing. External ombudsman to remove police protections and firing. Personally liable for wrong acts not just criminal. Theft, Co-ersion, drugs, protection money, excessive force, whole wide range of horrible things.

 @8W24G45from British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

Police should receive more funding, and social and community should also receive more funding

 @8VVNVTFConservativefrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but also increase funding and training in higher crime rate communities.

 @8VTHT2SConservativefrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

There should be a middle ground where police have funding and training, but there are different branches for responding to non violent crimes, mental health crisis, etc

 @8VMP336Conservativefrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Support both and encouraging the cooperation between both to provide a better service overall

 @8VMC99FConservativefrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

We should increase training for police so they are more competent. There is a clear issue, but defunding will only make it worse.

 @8VM72DHConservativefrom Saskatchewan  answered…4yrs4Y

It should be half and half. They need their equipment, but also need to have a good relationship with the public.

 @8VKNBZTConservativefrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8VK6WC5from Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

To a point, but there should also be an effort to improve the quality of policing so that instances of police brutality/misconduct are less common.

 @8VJK386Conservativefrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

No, but create a program where it involves more mental health awareness

 @8VH8FBHConservativefrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

No, not redirected. Funding should be provisioned and allocated to both police and social/community based programs to better prepare each party for issues that arise.

 @8VC7N6SConservativefrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Deparmentalize the roles of "police" and improve the reporting infrastructure to properly respond to issue at hand

 @8VBY7CMConservativefrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

Funding should be increased fro police departments in higher crime rate communities. But social and community based programs should also get more funding

 @8V9G9Q5Conservativefrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Maintain funding for RCMP, but implement funding for social / community programs as well.

 @8V7DGQWConservativefrom Quebec  answered…4yrs4Y

Funding should be focused on educating police overs and making them better equipped to deal with situations. Police offers should be held accountable; remove the power from the unions to protect them when they have done wrong.

 @8V6FCJJConservativefrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

Some funds should be redirected along with responsibilities like health checks.

 @8TYLQ6VConservativefrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

Fund the police but also have a mental health unit or medical persons to be involved

 @8TXZ94XConservativefrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Some funding and duties could be reallocated to social workers however should still be under the ospice of the police department

 @8TXSVCBfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

No, Policing needs to be formally educated on the labelling of Justice Involved Peoples. This prerogative would allow prejudice and discrimination to be recognized, and draw away the pressures on minority groups.

 @8TX4X5TConservativefrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

No, not right away. But if we spend more money for social community based programs than in theory we shouldnt need to spend as much policing. However it wouldnt be an overnight process

 @8TWT6YMfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, some funding for local police departments should be redirected to professional medical services for healthcare calls

 @8TVW68ZConservativefrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

No, it shouldnt be redirected but more funding should be provided to community based programs as well.

 @8TJPP2DConservativefrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

No, Increase funding for training police. Also add funding for social and community based programs

 @8T48MSHConservativefrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8SX46DKConservativefrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

I think they should both be equal because we need more safety and more social programs for everyone.

 @8SDXRNDConservativefrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8RTDVQMConservativefrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Both social programs and local police departments require more funding to make society as safe as possible.

 @8RL47CSfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Maintain existing policing functions but improve training to include identifying mental health issues and becoming more active in reducing the opportunity to commit crimes not simply responding to reported crimes.. Greater emphasis on educated and socially aware officers.

 @8RL3DTNfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

Leave the police out of it. Redirect funds from elsewhere towards social and community based programs.

 @8R4XDLTConservativefrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

No but more money should be allocated to social and community based programs.

 @8QRNKHZConservativefrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8QNG7HKConservativefrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8Q85WSSfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

No the police should not have reduced funding, but rather the funds given to them should be given for specific reason as to not allow law enforcement to spent money on things that they don't actually need.

 @8PZG5QPConservativefrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

Leave the police fully enabled. Create positions for trained helpers as part of EMS to pick up the load of poverty and psychodrama policing.

 @8PRX4HXfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes funding should be allocated to other places but the current policing situation should not change

 @8PMZ6RBConservativefrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8PKLLMSConservativefrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

Community policing so the police know the people around them, hence lowering the danger involved with being stopped by police

 @8PDP67XConservativefrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, increase funding everywhere so that they can be trained more efficiently.

 @8PB4XDQConservativefrom Nova Scotia  answered…4yrs4Y

We should at least find a way to fund other services without defending them

 @8P4WB7VConservativefrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

A portion but not all of police budget could be directed to social programming

 @8FL8FNVConservativefrom Ontario  answered…5yrs5Y

 @99PMZC6Conservativefrom Alberta  answered…2yrs2Y

You can't defund the police, they do need better training and also need to be a assisted by a social worker or councillor to calls with mental health issues, domestic abuse cases. Just like when a child is involved child services are involved.

 @99JJDKBConservativefrom Nova Scotia  answered…2yrs2Y

No, there needs to be more research done on the effectiveness of these programs before allocating funds to it

 @99H6FK5from Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

No, more funds should be directed to the training of police to respond accordingly to non-violent calls.

 @99C6BCLConservativefrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

No set police budget @1.5X and have minimum requirements for community service
