In September 2019 the government introduced a plan where prospective home buyers can finance 5-10% of their mortgage via a shared equity program administered by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). Households who make $120K or less and put down 5% will qualify for the program which will cost an estimated $1.25 billion.

I think if we looked at how we lend money and what requirements need to be met to borrow money we could be helping lower income families buy homes. For example if you have been paying $1500 in rent for over a year and never missed a payment why can you not qualify for a home costing the same monthly amount.

Look at their qualifications and any other things that might stop them from preventing them to make more than that amount to make sure they are not taking advantage of this. Also consider the type of house that they are trying to purchase
The Government should give them money but should make them take an oath to use it for its intended purpose.
