If a person breaks into my house with the intent to kill me, why should I be concerned if they live or die? It's a kill or be killed scenario and I should be allowed to stand my ground and get rid of the threat if need be.

In the USA, a country similar to Canada, firearms are widely used for self defense, often not even requiring the actual use of the firearm, but the mere presence of a firearm is often enough to de-escalate a potentially violent encounter. When a criminal is faced with the possibility of being met with equal or greater force, they are going to reconsider engaging in violent and disenfranchising actions.

t's important to note that individuals already have the right to defend themselves in situations where they face imminent danger or threat of harm. Most states have self-defence laws that allow individuals to use reasonable force to protect themselves or others without the need for a "stand your ground" provision.

the more people, that have a gun the greater the odds of a bad person getting their hands on one or maybe even a mentally ill person. if everyone's standing their ground always paranoid of who could have a gun its even more likely for there to be a misunderstanding that could lead to more tragedy.

Licenced gun owners already pass strict checks and should be allowed to defend their family need be. Laws dont work as criminals dont care. Protect us legal citizens

If there is a person on your property in a manner that suggests trespassing you don’t want to be playing a guessing game like with the current law of “if the circumstances show equal force” pertaining to you can only legally shoot someone in self-defence if the attacker is armed. If I am inside my home, with my family I don’t want to second guess myself before I go and grab my gun to confront the intruder. I want to act quickly and tactically sound to protect myself and/or my family without the risk if being legally punished for acting in self defence when there is…  Read more

you should be able to protect the land you own and the people you love and if that means you having to take the life of a threat then so be it.

 @9FLB5J6from British Columbia  disagreed…2yrs2Y

No, the government should not pass a national "stand your ground" law as gun crimes would increase
and homocides would increase along with the amount of guns in Canada. Which could lead to more mass shootings and school shootings. With the possibility of Canada as a nation becoming more and more alike to our neighbours, the United States of America.

I do not care. As long as they are not doing bad stuff with the gun just make sure it's known what they're doing

 @9FN3GV9from British Columbia  disagreed…2yrs2Y

If we allow this to occur, many students will begin to skip school in case of danger and we would need to increase taxes to give to the police to help counter shootings.
