The Aboriginal Band councils need to be a part of Parliment and the Senate. Then thier voices can be heard, and needs adressed.

Make sure all reserves are up to humane standards and repair or build new infrastructure where needed. Give back more land and stop seizing it for pipelines. More social programs and training.

 @9VF4YNBNew Democraticfrom Alberta  answered…6mos6MO

Yes, and we give their land back along with assistance in the form of education, training and social programs so they can live on their land.

 @9T3VJQSNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…7mos7MO

We should work with indigenous communities and leaders and figure out strategies in the most equitable way to help them build their communities up that reduces systemic racism. Whether its through funding, programs or regulation, they should be at the forefront at making these decisions.

 @9RCTFJ2New Democraticfrom Manitoba  answered…9mos9MO

This is not the correct question, rather it should be: are we meeting the obligations committed to during negotiations.

 @9QCX5SKNew Democraticfrom Nova Scotia  answered…9mos9MO

Yes as the government underfunds First Nations already, I believe making new treaties and giving portions of crown land back/money is the answer to reconciliation

 @96LZ6W7New Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, and they should recive assistance in the form of education, training, and social programs along with monetary funds and giving them their land back

 @95LGGB7New Democraticfrom British Columbia  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, we should be redirecting a lot of our current military funding towards our Indigenous populations and we should also be providing assistance that goes beyond funding (i.e. Indigenous-centric education, social programs to help people find affordable housing, get help with substance use issues, etc.).

 @93D9LHNNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, indigenous peoples should have a clean body of water which will be untouched to surrounding communities to maintain their traditional practices as well.

 @932R4DYNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

"government funding" is the payment from the treaty that was signed (which is next to nothing), the only payment indigenous people get is welfare or EI, as there are few job oppurtunities on reserves, which is funds that are accessible to the rest of Canadians

 @9285VQ6New Democraticfrom Newfoundland  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, no matter the amount of current "funds", quality of life in indigenous communities, such as the lack of clean water supply which is supposed to be regulated by the federal government, is severely lacking.

 @8ZTF98BNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but we should also offer more assistance in the form of education, training, and social programs.

 @8YZ5BBCNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes given them their land back, work with them not for them. Also do not use the word aboriginal!!!

 @8VNNV57New Democraticfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

No I don’t think they need to receive more funds. I think they should receive clean drinking water and resources to help them with trauma but also they should just have clean drinking water it’s a basic need!!

 @8VM85YMNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Aboriginal people should receive what they were granted under the treaties and any additional moneys, services, etc that all Canadians receive.

 @8VLS9B6New Democraticfrom Manitoba  answered…4yrs4Y

I don’t think any funding is necessary but there should be the same drinking water at reserves that civilians within the city have

 @8VJK25RNew Democraticfrom Quebec  answered…4yrs4Y

No, but the government should invest in infrastructure, access to clean drinking water and ressources to support communities (suicide prevention, health and education services, social services, etc.)

  @8TFVW57New Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Indigenous Canadians need funding for several social programs to bring them in-line with what is offered to other Canadians.

 @8T9R9D4New Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, they should be compensated for their hardships and resources as well as receive assistance in the form of education, training, and social programs.

 @8T9HJCTNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

No, offer assistance in the form of : education, training and social programs and they should be further compensated for their hardships and use of resources.

 @8S58WB4New Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

The funds should be given to each Aboriginal person individually instead of giving it to the Chief and we should offer assistance in social programs, trainings, and education as well as psychological help

 @8QS3ZG9New Democraticfrom Northwest Territories  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes to a point. Because last year (July 2020) was the first time I received the funds from the land agreement Treaty in almost 4-5 years. Also there should be more money funded to communities/reservations for things such as education, housing, or sports/social programs etc.

 @8QBDWW7New Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but instead of monetary funds, we should offer assistance in the form of education, housing, and social programs

 @aaliyahvNew Democraticfrom New Brunswick  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, and the government should give them their land back. Also, we should offer assistance in the form of education, training and social programs, and abolish the Indian Act.

 @8PJHVBZNew Democraticfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

In between, I think money should be put towards education into proper money management and to improving their economy and making more sustainable.

 @8PCCXK3New Democraticfrom Alberta  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, and we should provide assistance in the form of education, training, and social programs (for all citizens).

 @8NVVTXPNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8JV5RYNNew Democraticfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but in the form of education, training and social programs. As well as funding for public education of why we are providing the funding and to help with systematic racism in our country towards our Aboriginal community.

 @8GQ8VK9New Democraticfrom British Columbia  answered…4yrs4Y

It is my understanding that the funds received by aboriginal people was money owed to them and that is finally getting to them with a whole lot of restrictions as to how they can spend it.

 @98X6NK5New Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

 @973TZLZNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…2yrs2Y

Maybe not more funds but better funds and creating a liveable life for them still with their beliefs. And give them clean running water.

 @93SDTD8New Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…3yrs3Y

If they wish to live on their own terms then shouldn't they operate alone? Aside from land reserves and freedom to practice religion they should be left to their own devices.
