Can you imagine a future where taxes have minimized social inequality? What does it look like?

 @9V2MDBLfrom British Columbia  answered…3mos3MO

It would result in us all being poor. No one would want to work hard if they knew they had the same end result as everyone else

 @9V8NVJ4from Ontario  answered…3mos3MO

 @9V2ZF6Rfrom Ontario  answered…3mos3MO

everyone would have a home to live in, no one would be crying about it being to expensive. etc..

 @9VDZDY9from Alberta  answered…3mos3MO

there shouldnt be a tax on your paycheck. we pay tax on everything we purchase so by taxing the paycheck then taxing what we pay after we get our check we pay more in taxes then we receive .

 @9ZXF48Xfrom Ontario  answered…3wks3W

No, Canada should not raise taxes on the rich because they worked hard to get that money and to be wealthy.

 @9F4F8G8from Alberta  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, and remove any possible loopholes that are currently being used or could be used by large corporations

 @8VSSTYWfrom Alberta  answered…3yrs3Y

 @B26D5NVConservativefrom New Brunswick  answered…4 days4D

No, because "we" the rich have far too many methods of avoiding taxes in a lawful manner. The best way to tax the rich s with a consumption or transaction tax. This would allow removal of income tax and complete simplification of tax code. If every single transaction (including financial) was taxed at an exceptionally low rate the individuals or entities that make the most (# & $) transactions would pay the most taxes.

 @9ZZ37MKConservativefrom Alberta  answered…3wks3W

No, why should the rich be punished for being successful? It just reduces incentives for business owners and large corporations to make jobs and make growth

 @9ZXWKQMConservativefrom Ontario  answered…3wks3W

Yes. However, ensure that the taxes are not too high to make people who own businesses think about going to the States to run their businesses.

 @9ZXMNFXfrom Ontario  answered…3wks3W

No, but have systems in place to ensure that the general population has an income that is near to one another.

 @9ZTYYCSfrom Ontario  answered…4wks4W

I am unsure of which side to choose with the question, mainly because many of the "rich" have worked hard to reach their place in society. If they were taxed more, it would make it harder and would even cause rich people to move away from that country, which may affect our economy in some way because many rich people own businesses and companies in Canada. If they were to move away and bring their businesses with them, many people would lose their jobs.

 @9ZQ5RS7from Quebec  answered…1mo1MO

Stop printing money all together, inflation is a government phenomenon. Taxes do not cover inflation. It does nothing. The dollar still devalues. The money should be a fixed supply.

 @9ZMYJ4Pfrom Ontario  answered…1mo1MO

Abolish the Income Tax. For people who make 100k or over per annum, the GST percentage should be 5% for each purchase. For people who make below that threshold, it should be 2%.

 @9ZLDVNLfrom Ontario  answered…1mo1MO

Make anyone who’s income is $150,000 or more pay 5% in taxes. Make people who earn below the threshold pay 2%. Abolish the income tax entirely.

 @9ZHL598from Ontario  answered…1mo1MO

No, it should be lowered slightly for the wealthy but not the extremely rich. Loop holes should also not be allowed larger corporations.

 @9ZHCGXDfrom Manitoba  answered…1mo1MO

Absolutely not, as they would be citizens, how would it even be fair for them to pay higher taxes just because they have more money? All the citizens should pay the same equal taxes.

 @9ZDCKDQ from Ontario  answered…2mos2MO

lower it but also find a way to get rid of the loopholes so that everybody pays less taxes and those who have the wealth dont skip out on paying them

 @9ZCXM5Yfrom Alberta  answered…2mos2MO

Lower income tax on the middle and lower class raise income tax on people who make more than a million and raise income tax on billion and million dollar corporations, abolish all tax loopholes for the rich and corporations.

 @9YNQFHTNew Democraticfrom Alberta  answered…2mos2MO

Adjust the income tax rate appropriately and remove all existing tax loopholes for large corporations and the “super rich”.

 @9XHYBDNfrom Manitoba  answered…2mos2MO

Yes, but for the ultra-rich only, and lower the income tax for low-income, middle-class, and even upper-middle class.

 @9XCCXXJfrom Alberta  answered…2mos2MO

No, I think all the taxes that we pay should all be the same amount that everyone else pays for taxes

 @9X9LXM6from Alberta  answered…2mos2MO

it doesnt matter what you get payed, you pay the same taxes and live in esentially the same area. people shouldnt be rewarded with lower taxes for making bad choices when they were younger.

 @9WTX47Xfrom British Columbia  answered…2mos2MO

Yes, but lower the income tax rate for middle and working class citizens and remove all existing tax loopholes for large corporations

 @9WR8G39from British Columbia  answered…2mos2MO

Tax the 130k plus people more, not single parents, and decrease taxes for the less income people. And increase the taxes for corps, and the top most wealthy, there shouldnt be billioners.

 @9WBL9TKfrom British Columbia  answered…2mos2MO

No but make it mandatory that a percentage of profits are reinvested into business and not realized by owners

 @9W6LHHBfrom British Columbia  answered…2mos2MO

Lower taxes for the poor increase taxes for the rich and remove all existing tax loopholes and be able to choose to pay specific taxes on which do you actually use

 @9W4LHPNfrom British Columbia  answered…2mos2MO

Raise taxes on the wealthy, remove all corporate tax loopholes, and lower income tax for middle class.

 @9VW96WQGreenfrom British Columbia  answered…2mos2MO

Lower income tax IF it's possible to remove all existing loophalls for large corporations. If not, then increase tax for anyone earning upwards of $8million per year (in money or stocks or other capital forms)

 @9VW3LQLfrom British Columbia  answered…2mos2MO

No but make sure the rich aren’t using creative accounting practices to avoid paying their fair share.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…3mos3MO

Do you think a society is healthier when its richest citizens pay significantly more taxes than others?

 @carsonmyers from Maine  answered…3mos3MO

I think society is healthier when everyone's needs are met and they have the ability to lead fulfilling and enjoyable lives. If income tax is an (imperfect) way of pursuing that goal, then yes; but raising taxes on the rich is insufficient. A society with a large wealth gap is fundamentally unhealthy in the first place, regardless of its tax policy.

 @9TBN9CSIndependentfrom Ontario  answered…4mos4MO

No, but enforce federal regulations that enforce the rich to pay and prevent tax evasions through any legal loopholes.

 @9TYLKPXfrom Northwest Territories  answered…3mos3MO

the cost for riches should be slightly raised but the doors taxes should stay the same as long as they are able.

 @9TXBP2YIndependentfrom British Columbia  answered…3mos3MO

Lower taxes on poor, spend more to recover from tax evaders, remove loopholes for large corporations.

 @9TX8DMHfrom British Columbia  answered…3mos3MO

Create a new, more fair, tax system, that is much lower in taxes then the current one. Do not tax wealthy people too much or nobody will want to take risks and invest in things.

 @9TQY4VYfrom Ontario  answered…3mos3MO

raising taxes on the rich would give handouts to the poor, it would be better to provide the poor with more jobs.

 @9TMMWC2answered…3mos3MO

tax is the amountt of the money collected by the government to use it in other public services after certain cap of income my suggestion employee who work for their monthly income should pay less ,small business should pay according to the net revenue but should not be as high as 30% middle and large corporation should rase the tax on their net revenue but they can pay less if the donate large portion of teir annual net revenue to the reaserch organization or public funded organization

 @9TMG6K4from Alberta  answered…3mos3MO

people shouldnt have to pay for having money but if someone is strugiling with money the government should help them whitch would intail the government needing more money

 @9TJJT4Xfrom British Columbia  answered…3mos3MO

that would be unfair, so I would say no. because it should be their choose too and they most likely did something to earn that money. if they feel the need to give to the poor or donate that will be on their own accord.

 @9QR7ST5from Ontario  answered…6mos6MO

taxes should be fair for everyone not too high or low, since rich people also had to work hard, even if they didn't likely their families did.

 @9Q3FT6F from Ontario  answered…6mos6MO

No, keep the current tiered structure, lower taxes for the poor, enforce corporate tax collection, and implement a 1-3% tax on non-profits, and religious organizations (churches, synagogues, mosques, etc)

 @9PQQXRYfrom Ontario  answered…6mos6MO

I am middle class. I feel it is unfair to over tax those who have achieved wealth as an individual.

 @9NXCW6Qfrom Ontario  answered…7mos7MO

Yes, but not to the point where it negatively affects the rich and they can no longer support their needs.

 @9NMWPJKfrom British Columbia  answered…7mos7MO

If you tax the people who own everything more no doubt they will find a way to pass it down the chain to the consumers.

 @9M9Z7WCanswered…8mos8MO

No, but lower taxes on the poor who really do not have the potential at their current state to pay the taxes

 @9M8ZG9Qfrom Ontario  answered…8mos8MO

I believe they should pay more but not significantly. Say, if you make over a certain amount a year than your tax rate might be slightly higher.

 @9M8CPJ4from Ontario  answered…8mos8MO

Make there be more tax brackets, that make it where the final tax bracket involves anyone who is part of the top 2% income earners.

 @9M7X3CQLiberalfrom Quebec  answered…8mos8MO

Yes the government should but only for the highest income brackets, for instance income of more than 150k per year

 @9LZ9ZMNfrom Ontario  answered…8mos8MO

No, because the tax bracket already is raised on people with more annual income which is already morally incorrect because people work for the money they make.

 @9LTRGRMNew Democraticfrom Ontario  answered…8mos8MO

Lower the income tax rate for lower and middle class and remove all existing tax loopholes for large corporation (and continue to remove loopholes as they are found).

 @9LRCQVXfrom Prince Edward Island  answered…8mos8MO

It should depend based on how much you already give back to your community - donations and such should count towards your taxes

 @9LNZCPWfrom British Columbia  answered…8mos8MO

Abolish the income tax for personal income, no change for the sales tax, and keep taxes for the big corporations.

 @9LMC5GGfrom British Columbia  answered…8mos8MO

It depends if the person made they way up no however if the person was born into old money and nepotism yes.

 @9LJGNWTPeople’s from British Columbia  answered…9mos9MO

Abolish the income tax and start imposing tariffs. Cut federal and provincial government to 10% of its size. Abolish the federal and provincial MP and MLA and Senate pensions immediately.

 @9L5R7PFfrom Alberta  answered…9mos9MO

Simplify the current tax system by: restructuring the scale to make the 2% and corporations pay more, remove existing loopholes and rebates. Automate tax returns like many countries already do, remove tax based benefits. If you remove all these deductions, rebates, and loopholes that the very rich and corporations most benefit from, then both a fair wage and fair tax rate will be revealed without wasting taxpayer money on processing an unnecessarily complex tax return. There should only be GST on luxury items. There should be some limits on corporate profit or requirements for ratios at which employees must receive higher compensation.

 @9L58G3Rfrom Quebec  answered…9mos9MO

I think it depends on what we count as rich, the owners of really big corporations that are making millions of dollers should be taxed, but I dont think we should be taxing people work a well paying job (doctors, lewyes, etc) as much as we do

 @9KZ9LTCConservativefrom Alberta  answered…9mos9MO

Yes, the more money you make, the more taxes you should pay to make up for people unable to pay such high taxes with a low income. So poor people should have lowered taxes and richer people should have higher taxes.

 @9KMCFG7from British Columbia  answered…10mos10MO

Taxes should be augmented only if the government is willing to provide more services to the people. Otherwise absolutely not.

 @9KGWSV2from New Brunswick  answered…10mos10MO

Create a universal income tax exception of $26000. Start taxing at 5% and increase tax progressively by 2.5% per $10,000. Cap tax at 50%. There should only be federal income tax.

 @9K3Q4DYfrom British Columbia  answered…10mos10MO

I feel that the rich should be taxed for things that would support the future in our world. Such as homeless shelters, renewable energy, and money towards researching climate change. As well as donating money so 3rd world countries can have real meals.

 @9JYPDGGfrom British Columbia  answered…10mos10MO

No, but they should make the tax rate a percentage of one's pay so that people working as surgeons don't lose less money than the janitors to the government

 @9JS8GNHfrom Alberta  answered…11mos11MO

You shouldn't just be allowed to raise tax rates on richer people due to wealth. they worked to get to where they are.

 @9JR4DYVLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…11mos11MO

 @9JQ9XHCfrom Alberta  answered…11mos11MO

i believe it should be relooked and made into a fair tax bracket for everyone and there circumstances

 @9JQ8YN2Conservativefrom Ontario  answered…11mos11MO

depending on how much the eprson make a year, should be the reason for how high or how lower their taxes

 @9JLF2GLfrom British Columbia  answered…11mos11MO

this is a misleading question the normal have income tax but most "rich" people gain there wealth over stocks witch are taxed less so if we rise tax on a higher income it doesn't affect the rich. so equal out the tax between people who make money off stock with people who make money of normal income.

 @9JBKCQLfrom Alberta  answered…11mos11MO

No, the carbon tax, income tax and overall taxes for business should all be changed and reduced for everyone.

 @9J7VVDJConservativefrom Ontario  answered…11mos11MO

All the individuals should get an equal rights. Government can't raise the taxes for rich and decrease the rate for poor because to maintain country's economy balance; there should be equality.

 @9J73G5HConservativefrom Ontario  answered…11mos11MO

I’d say cut 2/3 of the wage for all people in the House of Commons and keep the TAX how it is now for the rich

 @9HB5B32from Manitoba  answered…1yr1Y

yes, and put a limit at 1.5 million dollars, so that any money you get past that amount just goes straight back to the community or a charity that you HAVE to choose.

 @9H98GLKfrom Manitoba  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, and i believe that any money you get after the 1.5-million-dollar mark should go straight to the government or community- because nobody needs more money than they can comprehend.

 @9H8BM7Bfrom Alberta  answered…1yr1Y

Lower the tax rate and remove tax loopholes for large corporations, and tax farmers after business expenses

 @9H6GJSNfrom Alberta  answered…1yr1Y

Do it reasonably and not take so much money from them as there are enough wealthy individuals in the country that if you do the math if you take a reasonable amount of taxes from all of them, the country would still benefit.

 @9H4B72Jfrom Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

Have a limited set of allowed money, and whenever you earn more than the said amount, the money goes towards the government.

 @9GZYG4Jfrom Quebec  answered…1yr1Y

Regardless, reform to destination-based cash-flow tax (DBCFT) and remove all existing tax loopholes and deductions, also abolish across Canada: payroll tax, sales tax, capital gain tax, interest gain tax, property and school tax, corporation tax, car tax, airline tax, cigarette and all other smoking products tax, alcohol tax, petrol tax, carbon tax, internet tax, diverted profit tax, luxury goods tax, mansion tax then enact: automation tax, mortgage tax relief, (packaging tax, plastic tax and plastic bag tax until bio-plastic is widely use which should not be taxed).

 @9GQHY3BPeople’sfrom Alberta  answered…1yr1Y

sliding scale tax for every bracket. mainly reform spending so that tax relief for all can be achieved

 @9GNXXXTfrom British Columbia  answered…1yr1Y

There are agreements, as well as other things we have signed which might get in the way of this, but we should have a progressive tax system depending on different factors as to how people pay different amounts.

 @9GJPKWTfrom Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

The rich should provide a minimum donation to support programs for increasing quality of life for low income families, marginalized people, and reforming criminal systems.

 @9GH2KFFfrom Alberta  answered…1yr1Y

Raise taxes on the poor and lower taxes on the rich. Poor people don't make as much money because they don't contribute as much to society, so we deserve the money they have.

 @9GC2S2Pfrom British Columbia  answered…1yr1Y

lower tax on the middle class and keep the rest the same there is no longer a middle class in Canada

 @9G8G56QConservativefrom British Columbia  answered…1yr1Y

 @9FRRVNFfrom British Columbia  answered…1yr1Y

 @9FR2W9PConservativefrom Connecticut  answered…1yr1Y

It is probably more equitable to have a graduated income tax rate based on earnings. The problem with this is the wealthiest earners have access to an array of accountants, lawyers and financial advisors, and are able thus to avoid taxes and the equitable amount of tax they should pay.

 @9FQY4MYfrom British Columbia  answered…1yr1Y

Tax the more wealthy as they find loopholes to pay less taxes. And find a way to remove all ways for the rich and large corporations to use loopholes.

 @9FPBNFQLiberalfrom Ontario  answered…1yr1Y

Depends on the perception of the people. If middle income families are forced to go to a single vehicle while multi-Tesla homes are on the rise, the problem could be rooted in corporations willingness to spend budgets on high end items driving up prices out of the reach of the working class. Shareholders that have a large stake in a company tend to also behave like they are rich owners. While they squeeze every dollar out of a corporation, we are subsidizing wages. Taxing the corporations more is a disincentive to invest in Canada, and jobs move to where they are cheapest rather than most eff…  Read more
