Uganda's Museveni Steps In to Prevent South Sudan's Slide Back Into Civil War

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has arrived in South Sudan amid escalating political tensions following the arrest of First Vice President Riek Machar. His visit marks the highest-level diplomatic intervention since the crisis began, raising fears of a return to civil war in the fragile nation. Museveni's trip comes as the African Union and IGAD (Intergovernmental Authority on Development) intensify efforts to mediate peace talks. The situation has alarmed regional leaders, who are pushing for urgent dialogue to stabilize South Sudan. Museveni stated that his visit was at the invitation of South Sudanese President Salva Kiir.
