There more than likely would be little in the way of economic hardship and only benefit due to the increase in trade, but compensation of an admittedly lower amount would definitely be in order. Also, splitting Canada into a few different states to get more representation would be more than fair.

No, but our constitution/charter of rights and freedoms needs to be updated so that it cannot be infringed, like the US.
