Should the government provide assistance to homeowners facing foreclosure?

I think it depends on why they are facing a foreclosure

If it is because they choose to live outside of their means then they should not receive assistance. If they are facing foreclosure because of job loss and are actively making an effort to help themselves then they should receive assistance.
