While it's important to help those in need, the city should focus on long-term solutions like job creation and affordable housing instead of using taxpayer money to buy buildings for shelters.

I think it's good that the city is taking steps to address homelessness because it's a serious issue that affects everyone, not just the people directly in need. But at the same time, I get why some local residents and businesses might be concerned about the shelter's location. It feels like there needs to be more balance between helping vulnerable people and making sure the neighborhood is still safe and economically viable for everyone else. The City of Regina has finally decided to purchase its permanent emergency shelter. Council voted 9-2 to purchase the building used by the Regina Eagles Club on 1600 Halifax St. on Wednesday. Councillors Terina Nelson and Landon Mohl voted against the motion.
