House of Commons Speaker Greg Fergus has called on Canadian MPs to improve their behaviour following a particularly rowdy question period last week. The incident saw tensions rise between party leaders, with one MP even fearing the exchange could escalate into physical confrontation. Fergus emphasized the importance of maintaining decorum and respecting parliamentary traditions, though he did not demand any formal apologies. MPs appeared more restrained in subsequent sessions.
It's really disappointing to see our elected officials acting like that when they should be focusing on the issues that matter to Canadians. Everyone deserves a respectful and constructive debate, not a circus in the House of Commons.
Honestly, it's about time MPs start acting with the respect and professionalism you'd expect from people representing our country. We can have strong debates without turning the House into a circus – it’s about putting Canada first and setting an example for citizens.
It’s wild that we need constant reminders for MPs to act with basic respect and decency, especially when they’re supposed to be leading by example. This level of chaos is just a distraction from addressing the real issues that people are facing, like inequality and corporate power. If they spent half as much time working on policies that help everyday folks as they do bickering, we might actually see some progress. Honestly, this is just another example of how out of touch the political elite can be.

This is exactly what's wrong with politics today – too much talk, no action. These MPs are more interested in yelling at each other than actually doing something for the people. They forget they're supposed to represent us, not act like children in a schoolyard fight. Maybe if they spent less time bickering and more time listening to ordinary Canadians, we'd actually see some real change. It's time to clean house and bring in leaders who actually care about the country, not their egos.

House Speaker Greg Fergus asks MPs to behave better in question period after incident
House of Commons Speaker... After the exchange last week, Fergus asked the MPs to respect the long-standing traditions of the House but did not ask anyone with withdraw their comments or apologize. MPs were far more docile during Monday’s question...
