while there may be concerns about the costs and implementation of designated AV lanes, the potential benefits in terms of safety, efficiency, environmental impact, and accessibility present a strong case for their consideration.

Increased Safety: A report from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) indicates that autonomous vehicles could reduce traffic fatalities by up to 90% if fully adopted. With dedicated lanes, AVs can operate with minimal interference from human drivers, significantly decreasing the likelihood of accidents. This separation is crucial, as human error is a leading cause of road fatalities .
Traffic Efficiency and Reduced Congestion: Research by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) suggests that AVs can improve traffic flow by 20-30% through optimized driving patterns and red…  Read more

We are no where near to implementing a lane for autonomous vehicles when there is very few out there

 @9ZKLCS3from Alberta  answered…7 days7D

Only when there are more autonomous vehicles being used and compares with the amount of non-autonomous vehicles on the road

Increase autonomous vehicle incentives and once it reaches a certain amount then do a seperate lane.

I think they should for sure have there own lanes especially motorcycles because I think they are at most danger if getting hit and should have there own lane where no other vehicle can go into that lane.

 @9VDP2FMfrom Alberta  answered…2mos2MO

Yes because at rare occasions, autonomous vehicles can have a slight accuracy on the real roads that human drivers drive in

 @9TZYRSKfrom British Columbia  answered…2mos2MO

For now, I don't believe they should even be used. The technology isn't great enough in my opinion.

 @9TYTRSDfrom British Columbia  answered…2mos2MO

No. But because autonomous vehicles shouldn’t be trusted to be on the roads

 @carsonmyers from Maine  answered…2mos2MO

No, ban autonomous vehicles that interact with other traffic and are not on rails

 @9RCH475from British Columbia  answered…4mos4MO

No, autonomous vehicles notoriously under perform in winter conditions and as such, pose a safety risk for most of canada

 @9RC3SBWfrom Quebec  answered…4mos4MO

Yes, but only when the autonomous technology is sufficiently mature to deploy

 @9QW7TQZfrom Ontario  answered…4mos4MO

No, Designate extra lanes and infrastructure to other forms of public transit.

If the autonomous vehicles are not used for public transportation services like buses and trains, and instead are for private services like cabs or personal vehicles, a designated lane is not necessary.
